The first round of the World Qualifying Points Playoff is about to begin, and last year’s North America WCQ winner, Aditya Dharap from Texas, is facing off against UDS Champion and 2-time YCS winner Jeff Jones from Michigan! After a year of accumulating World Qualifying Points, both Duelists have made it into the World Qualifying Points Playoff here in Indianapolis, Indiana. Now, they’re both just 3 Match wins away from earning an invitation – as well as paid travel and accommodations – to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME World Championship in Paris, France. Jones’s Maliss Deck is up against Dharap’s Onomat Ryzeal Deck. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Jones started off Duel 1 by activating Maliss in Underground and banished Maliss <P> Chessy Cat from his Deck.

He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon it with its effect and activated its effect on the field. Dharap Chained the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos from his hand, and Jones banished Maliss <P> Dormouse from his hand to draw 2 cards. He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon Dormouse and then used its effect to banish Maliss <P> White Rabbit from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon it from banishment and then used White Rabbit’s effect to Set Maliss <C> MTP-07 from his Deck to his field. Jones sent his 3 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom, allowing Dharap to draw a card. Jones used Red Ransom’s effect to add Maliss in the Mirror from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned Backup @Ignister from his hand. He added Maliss <P> March Hare from his Deck to his hand and discarded a Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Next, he activated the effect of Bystial Magnamut and Special Summoned it by banishing Chessy Cat from his Graveyard. He used Magnamhut’s effect and paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon Chessy Cat. He sent Magnamhut and Chessy Cat to the Graveyard to Link Summon I:P Masquerena, allowing Dharap to draw another card from the effect of Fuwalos. Jones Set a card to his back row and then entered his End Phase. He added Bystial Druiswurm from his Deck to his hand with the effect of Magnamhut.

Dharap drew Mulcharmy Fuwalos and added it to his hand of Small World, Star Ryzeal, Bonfire, Droll & Lock Bird, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and another Mulcharmy Fuwalos. He activated the effects of two Fuwalos from his hand at the start of Main Phase 1 and then activated Bonfire to add Ext Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand. He sent Mereologic Aggregator from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon Ext Ryzeal and then used the effects of Ext and Aggregator as Chain Links 1 and 2 respectively. He targeted I:P Masquerena with the effect of the Aggregator and Jones Chained Maliss in the Mirror targeting Ext Ryzeal. He banished his Red Ransom to negate Ext’s effect and I:P’s effect was negated. In a new Chain, Jones Special Summoned Red Ransom by paying 900 Life Points and banished White Rabbit from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon the White Rabbit and Set a Trap from his Deck with its effect. Dharap Normal Summoned Star Ryzeal. Jones flipped MTP-07, but lost out to Ash Blossom. Next, Jones Special Summoned Bystial Baldrake from his hand by banishing Aggregator from the Graveyard. Dharap activated Small World next. He revealed Droll & Lock Bird from his hand and chose Ash Blossom in his Deck. He added Nemeses Flag from his Deck to his hand and banished the Droll & Lock Bird and Ash Blossom face-down. He Special Summoned the Nemeses Flag by returning his banished Aggregator to his Extra Deck. He used the Flag’s effect to add Archnemeses Protos from his Deck to his hand. He banished Ext from his field, and banished Ash  Blossom and Fuwalos from his Graveyard to Special Summon Archnemeses Protos. He activated the Protos’s effect by declaring “DARK”, and Jones Chained his Druiswurm’s effect in his hand by banishing Backup @Ignister from his Graveyard to Special Summon it. All of Jones’s monsters were destroyed, and then Druiswurm’s effect sent Protos to the Graveyard. Direct attacks from Nemeses Flag and Star Ryzeal dropped Jones down to 3000 Life Points.

Jones Normal Summoned Chessy Cat and activated its effect. He banished March Hare from his hand to draw 2 cards, and then paid 300 Life Points to return March Hare to his hand with its effect. Unable to Special Summon DARK monsters due to the Protos’s effect, he just attacked and destroyed Flag with Chessy Cat, Set a card to his back row, and ended his turn.

Dharap drew Ice Ryzeal! He Normal Summoned it and chose not to activate its effect. Next, he combined Star with Ice to Xyz Summon Infernal Flame Banshee. He detached an Xyz Material from the Banshee to activate its effect and Jones flipped Infinite Impermanence to negate the Banshee’s effect. With his Banshee’s effect stopped, Dharap conceded.

Duel Two

Dharap opened up Duel 2 with Harpie’s Feather Storm, Ice Ryzeal, Sword Ryzeal, Triple Tactics Thrust, and Gagaga Ganbara Knight.

Jones activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia in the Standby Phase and then Dharap Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal in his Main Phase, allowing Jones to draw a card from Purulia’s effect. He activated Ice’s effect, but lost out to Jones’s Ash Blossom. Next, Dharap Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal from his hand, allowing Jones to draw another card, and Dharap added Ext Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand with Sword’s effect. He combined Sword with Ice to Xyz Summon Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer and then Set Harpie’s Feather Storm.

Jones Normal Summoned Chessy Cat and Dharap flipped Harpie’s Feather Storm. Jones sent his Chessy Cat to the Graveyard to Link Summon Link Disciple and then passed his turn.

Dharap drew Star Ryzeal and then detached an Xyz Material from Castel to Special Summon Star Ryzeal from his hand and Set Ryzeal Cross from his Deck with Star’s effect. He flipped it up and then activated the effect of Gagaga Ganbara Knight in his hand. He revealed Gagaga Cowboy from his Extra Deck to Special Summon the Gagaga Ganbara Knight. He combined the Knight with Star Ryzeal to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive and then activated its effect to attach an Ice Ryzeal to it from his Graveyard as an Xyz Material. Next, he used his Duo Drive’s other effect. Jones activated Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it, and then Dharap activated Triple Tactics Thrust. He added Triple Tactics Talent to his hand, and when Jones activated Droll & Lock Bird’s effect, Dharap negated it with the effect of Cross. Dharap activated the Talent and Jones Chained Magnamhut’s effect to Special Summon it from his hand by banishing Star from Dharap’s Graveyard. Dharap looked at Jones’s hand of 2 copies of Backup @Ignister and returned 1 to Jones’s Deck with the effect of Talent. Jones activated Magnamhut’s effect in a new Chain, and then Dharap Special Summoned Ext from his hand by sending an Aggregator from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He used Ext’s effect to add Sword Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand and then used Sword’s effect to add Ice Ryzeal to his hand. At that point, Jones conceded.

Duel Three

Jones started off Duel 3 by activating Gold Sarcophagus. He banished Dormouse from his Deck and paid 300 Life Points to activate its effect, prompting Dharap to Chain the effect of Mulcharmy Meowls from his hand. Jones Special Summoned Dormouse and Dharap drew a card. Jones activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird to stop Dharap from drawing more cards during the turn, and then used Dormouse’s effect to banish White Rabbit from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon White Rabbit and used its effect to Set MTP-07 from his Deck. He sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Splash Mage and used its effect to Special Summon Dormouse back to the field. He used Splash Mage and Dormouse to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom and then Set Maliss <C> GWC-06. He activated it by banishing Red Ransom and Special Summoned White Rabbit. Then he paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon Red Ransom back to the field and banish March Hare from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to return the March Hare to his hand with its effect. He Normal Summoned Chessy Cat next, and then sent all 3 of his monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder. He used its effect to banish Dormouse and Chessy Cat from his Graveyard, and banish Meowls from Dharap’s Graveyard. He used White Rabbit’s effect to Set GWC-06 from his Graveyard to his field and then sent White Binder and Chessy Cat to the Graveyard to Link Summon Firewall Dragon. He Special Summoned March Hare from his hand by banishing White Binder from his Graveyard and then paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon White Binder co-linked to Firewall Dragon. He used the Firewall Dragon’s effect to return Droll & Lock Bird from his Graveyard to his hand and then sent all of his monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter.

Dharap drew Dodododo Warrior for his turn and added it to his hand of Nemeses Flag, Bonfire, Ice Ryzeal, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Sword Ryzeal. He Normal Summoned Ice and activated its effect to Special Summon Star Ryzeal from his Deck. He activated Star’s effect to Set Ryzeal Cross from his Deck and then combined Star with Ice to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator. He flipped Ryzeal Cross next and Jones Chained the effect of Hearts Crypter. Dharap Chained Detonator’s effect targeting Jones’s face-down GWC-06, which Jones Chained. Dharap Chained Detonator’s effect again, targeting Hearts Crypter. The Chain resolved and Hearts Crypter was destroyed. White Binder was Special Summoned by GWC-06 and Jones gained 2300 Life Points, and Jones banished Ryzeal Cross with Hearts Crypter’s effect. White Binder’s effect banished Red Ransom from Jones’s Graveyard and banished both Ryzeal monsters from Dharap’s Graveyard. Jones Special Summoned Red Ransom by paying 900 Life Points next and used Red Ransom’s effect to banish March Hare from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to return March Hare to his hand. Next, Dharap activated the effect of Dodododo Warrior in his hand. He sent Dodododwarf Gogogoglove to the Graveyard and Jones used Dominus Impulse from his hand to negate and destroy the Warrior. Dharap used Bonfire to add Ext Ryzeal to his hand, and Jones was no longer able to use Droll & Lock Bird’s effect since it’s a WIND monster and he activated Dominus Impulse from his hand earlier in the turn! Dharap Special Summoned Ext from his hand next by sending Vallon, the Super Psy Skyblaster to the Graveyard. He used Vallon’s effect to target Jones’s face-down MTP-07 for destruction and activated Ext’s effect. Jones Chained MTP-07, and Dharap Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Dharap added Node Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned Sword from his hand. He used Sword’s effect to add Ice Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned Nemeses Flag from his hand. He used its effect to add Archnemeses Eschatos from his Deck to his hand. He combined Sword with Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive and then banished 3 monsters with different types from his Graveyard to Special Summon Archnemesis Eschatos. He used Eschatos’s effect to clear Jones’s field by destroying all of the Cyberse monsters! Dharap entered his Battle Phase, and then direct attacks from Detonator, Duo Drive, Eschatos, and Nemeses Flag wiped out all of Jones’s Life Points!

Aditya Dharap is moving on to the next round with his Onomat Ryzeal Deck!
