Duel 1
Gochenour won the die roll and chose to go first! His opening hand consisted of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Droll & Lock Bird, Dominus Impulse, and two copies of Primite Dragon Ether Beryl. During the Standby Phase, Seavey activated the effect of Mulcharmy Purulia! Gochenour chose to end his turn so as to not allow his opponent to draw any cards!
Seavey began by Normal Summoning Fire King Avatar Arvata. He entered the Battle Phase and attacked Gochenour’s Life Points directly, Set a card to his backrow, and ended his turn.
Gochenour drew Sage with Eyes of Blue for turn! He Normal Summoned Ether Beryl, but when he activated its effect, Seavey activated Arvata’s effect as Chain Link 2, then activated the effect of Fire King High Avatar Kirin in his hand as Chain Link 3. Arvata destroyed Kirin after it was summoned, and then in a separate Chain, Seavey summoned Arvata and Kirin back from the Graveyard and destroyed Ether Beryl. Gochenour then ended his turn.
During Seavey’s Draw Phase, Gochenour activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Seavey Normal Summoned Legendary Fire King Ponix, but Gochenour responded with Dominus Purge, negating Ponix’s effect! Seavey entered the Battle Phase and attacked Gochenour’s Life Points with all 3 monsters, then used Ponix and Kirin to Link Summon Duelittle Chimera and ended his turn.
Gochenour drew Nibiru, the Primal Being for turn! To start, he activated Infinite Impermanence, negating the effect of Seavey’s Arvata. Gochenour then Normal Summoned his second copy of Ether Beryl, Setting Primite Lordly Lode from his Deck. Here, however, Seavey activated Fire King Sky Burn, destroying Ether Beryl and Arvata! Seavey activated Arvata’s effect, Special Summoning Kirin from the Graveyard. Next, Gochenour activated the face-down Lordly Lode, adding Primite Drillbeam to his hand. However, when Gochenour activated Lode’s effect to Special Summon, Seavey Chained Dominus Impulse! Seavey Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Seavey started his turn by going straight into the Battle Phase. With enough monsters on field, Seavey was able to attack Gochenour’s Life Points directly and win the first Duel!
Duel 2
Gochenour chose to go first in the second Duel! His opening hand contained Primite Lordly Lode, Primite Drillbeam, Droll & Lock Bird, Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, and Solemn Judgment. He started by Normal Summoning Ether Beryl and activating its effect to Set another Lordly Lode from his Deck. He used Ether to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue, and when he activated its effect, Seavey Chained the effect of Fantastical Dragon Phantazmay in his hand, Special Summoning it, drawing 2 cards and placing a card back in his Deck. Meanwhile, Gochenour searched for Mausoleum of White and activated it. To follow up, Seavey activated the effect of Fire King High Avatar Kirin in his hand, destroying another Kirin, then activated Sacred Fire King Garunix as well, Special Summoning it from his hand. When he attempted to activate its effect, Gochenour responded by activating Primite Drillbeam, attempting to negate the effect of Garunix, but Seavey Chained the effect of Phantazmay to protect his monster! He resolved Garunix by destroying Fire King Courtier Ulcanix from his Deck, and activated Ulcanix’s effect to Special Summon Fire King High Avatar Garunix.
Next, Gochenour activated Primite Lordly Lode, adding another Primite Dragon Ether Beryl to his hand. He then activated the effect of Mausoleum, sending a Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard. However, when he activated Spirit’s effect, Seavey unexpectedly Chained Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Gochenour activated Lordly Lode’s other effect, Special Summoning Blue-Eyes White Dragon from his Deck, then Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Seavey began his turn by using Fire King High Avatar Garunix and Sacred Fire King Garunix to Xyz Summon Garunix Eternity, Hyang of the Fire Kings, but Gochenour negated the summon with Solemn Judgment! He activated the effect of Kirin in his hand, destroying the Kirin on the field and activating the effect of the Sacred Fire King Garunix in his Graveyard. This allowed him to summon both Garunix and Fire King Courtier Ulcanix! He activated Ulcanix’s effect to search for Legendary Fire King Ponix, but when he activated its effect to Special Summon it, Gochenour activated Droll & Lock Bird! Seavey then used Ponix, Phantazmay, and Ulcanix to Link Summon Promethean Princess, Bestower of Flames, and activated Princess’ effect to Special Summon Fire King Avatar Arvata back from the Graveyard. Since Gochenour had already paid half of his Life Points to activate Solemn Judgment, the monsters on the field were able to attack Gochenour’s Life Points directly and reduce them to zero!
Seavey wins the round and finishes Day 1 with 20 points! He’ll be coming back tomorrow to compete for a spot in the Top 32 at YCS Providence!
