
Top 32 Feature Match: George Lucas Sacco vs. Clark Hathaway Lewis Jr.
We’re finally here! We’ve arrived at the Top 32 here at YCS Providence. The top 32 Duelists from the Swiss rounds each receive a beautiful playmat featuring Anotherverse Solaria, but these Duelists are fighting for more, wanting to earn the title of winner of YCS Providence. In this Top 32 Feature Match, we have George Lucas Sacco piloting the Maliss strategy, one that has been incredibly popular all weekend with the new cards introduced in Alliance Insight. This is the seventh YCS Top of Sacco’s Dueling career, and he’s hoping to finally bring home the title! On the other hand, this is Lewis’ first YCS Top, and he’s using the classic Blue-Eyes White Dragon Deck. It’s time to find out which of these two Duelists will be making their way to the Top 16!
Duel 1
Sacco won the die roll and chose to go first! His opening hand contained Dominus Impulse, Maliss in the Mirror, Gold Sarcophagus, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Maliss <P> White Rabbit. He started by activating Gold Sarcophagus, banishing Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck and Special Summoning it. He activated its effect, but Lewis responded with Effect Veiler! Next, Lewis activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, but Sacco responded with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Sacco Normal Summoned Maliss <P> White Rabbit, but it was met with Infinite Impermanence! Sacco used White Rabbit and Dormouse to Link Summon Haggard Lizardose, then activated Lizardose’s effect to banish White Rabbit, allowing him to Special Summon it back to the field. He used Lizardose and White Rabbit to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom and search for Maliss in Underground! Finally, he Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn.
Lewis started his turn by activating the effect of Maiden of White, placing True Light in his Spell/Trap Zone. He activated True Light’s effect, Setting Wishes for Eyes of Blue to his backrow, then activated Wishes, discarding Nibiru, the Primal Being to search for Sage with Eyes of Blue and Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons. Next, he Normal Summoned Sage, searching for another Maiden of White, then used Sage to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue! However, when he activated Spirit’s effect, Sacco Chained Maliss in the Mirror, banishing Red Ransom and negating the effect of Spirit. Sacco Special Summoned back Red Ransom and banished another White Rabbit from the Deck, Special Summoned the White Rabbit, then searched for another copy of Underground and Set Maliss <C> MTP-07 from the Deck to his backrow. Lewis activated Roar, hoping to bring out Blue-Eyes White Dragon, but Sacco Chained Dominus Impulse! Unable to push any further, Lewis conceded the first Duel.
Duel 2
Sacco’s opening hand contained Nibiru, the Primal Being, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Maliss <P> March Hare, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, and Called by the Grave.
Lewis started off by Normal Summoning Sage with Eyes of Blue, searching for Maiden of White. On resolution, Sacco activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Lewis continued by using Sage to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue, allowing Sacco to draw a card, as Lewis searched for Mausoleum of White. He activated Mausoleum, then activated its effect to send Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard. He discarded Maiden of White to place True Light in his Spell/Trap Zone, then activated Spirit’s effect, Tributing it to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Graveyard. This also allowed him to bring out the Maiden of White! Next, Lewis activated Wishes for Eyes of Blue, discarding another copy of Sage, and Sacco Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Lewis Set a card to his backrow, used True Light to Set Majesty with Eyes of Blue to his backrow, then ended his turn.
Sacco began his turn by Normal Summoning Maliss <P> March Hare, but Lewis responded to the summon by activating Majesty, destroying March Hare. Next, Sacco Set three cards to his backrow, then ended his turn. During the End Phase, Lewis activated the effect of True Light to Set Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons to his backrow.
Lewis began his turn by banishing Wishes from his Graveyard to equip his Blue-Eyes White Dragon with Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, then sent it to the Graveyard to Special Summon Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon! Next, he activated the effect of Mausoleum, sending another Blue-Eyes White Dragon to the Graveyard, and Sacco Chained Infinite Impermanence, targeting Lewis’ Tyrant Dragon. Although Tyrant Dragon is unaffected by the effect of Trap Cards, Sacco had placed Impermanence in the same column as Lewis’ True Light! Lewis then activated Roar, Special Summoning Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Graveyard, and used Blue-Eyes and Maiden to Synchro Summon Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon!
Lewis entered the Battle Phase, attacking Sacco’s Life Points directly with Tyrant Dragon and Spirit Dragon, and activated Tyrant Dragon’s effect to Set Majesty of the White Dragons back to his backrow. Lewis activated Spirit Dragon’s effect, Tributing it to try and Special Summon another monster from the Extra Deck, but Sacco responded with Called by the Grave! Lewis then ended his turn.
Sacco drew Maliss in Underground for turn! He activated it, but Lewis responded with Majesty, destroying Underground before it could resolve. Without any more plays available to him, Sacco conceded. We’re moving on to the all-important game 3!
Duel 3
Sacco opened with Nibiru, the Primal Being, Terraforming, Maliss in the Mirror, Maliss <C> MTP-07, and Maliss <C> GWC-06. During Sacco’s Draw Phase, Lewis activated the effect of Artifact Lancea! Sacco Set two cards to his backrow and ended his turn.
During Lewis’ Draw Phase, Sacco activated Maliss <C> MTP-07, adding Maliss <P> March Hare to his hand! In Main Phase 1, Lewis activated Wishes for Eyes of Blue, discarding Blue-Eyes White Dragon to search for Sage with Eyes of Blue and Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons. Next, he activated Primite Lordly Lode and searched for Primite Drillbeam. Lewis then Normal Summoned Sage and activated its effect. Sacco responded with Maliss in the Mirror, but Lewis Chained Drillbeam, revealing another Blue-Eyes White Dragon in his hand! This allowed Lewis to resolve Sage’s effect and search for Maiden, as Lewis used the effect of the banished Maliss in the Mirror to banish MTP from his Graveyard and search for Maliss <C> TB-11.
Next, Lewis used Sage to Link Summon Spirit with Eyes of Blue and search for Mausoleum of White! He discarded Maiden to place True Light to his Spell/Trap Zone, then used Spirit’s effect to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon from the Graveyard, which also allowed him to bring back Maiden. He used the two to Synchro Summon Blue-Eyes Spirit Dragon, but before he could end his turn, Sacco activated the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being! Lewis followed this up by using True Light’s effect to Special Summon Blue-Eyes White Dragon, then banished Wishes from his Graveyard to equip it with Neo Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and turn it into Blue-Eyes Tyrant Dragon. Finally, Lewis used the effects of Lordly Lode and Roar of the Blue-Eyed Dragons to Special Summon two copies of Blue-Eyes White Dragon, used the two to Link Summon Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres, then Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Sacco drew Maliss <P> White Rabbit for turn! He Set a card to his backrow, then Normal Summoned Maliss <P> March Hare. Next, he activated the Maliss <C> TB-11 he had just Set to banish March Hare and Special Summon Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck! He activated March Hare’s effect, adding it back to hand. On resolution, Lewis activated the effect of Hieratic Seal, Tributing it to return Dormouse to Sacco’s hand before he could activate its effect, and Special Summoned Primite Dragon Ether Beryl out of the Deck. Sacco then activated Terraforming to search for Maliss in Underground, then activated Underground to banish then Special Summon Maliss <P> Chessy Cat. He activated Chessy’s effect, banishing Dormouse and drawing two cards. He Special Summoned back Dormouse, but when he activated its effect, Lewis responded with Infinite Impermanence!
From there, Sacco used Dormouse and White Rabbit to Link Summon Cyberse Wicckid, then activated Bystial Magnamhut’s effect, Special Summoning it by banishing Dormouse. He used Wicckid’s effect to search for Backup @Ignister, then Special Summoned Backup and searched for Wizard @Ignister. He activated March Hare’s effect, Special Summoning it by banishing Maliss <P> White Rabbit, then Special Summoned the White Rabbit. He used Wicckid and March Hare to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom and search for another Underground, then used Wizard and Ransom to Link Summon Splash Mage! He activated Splash Mage’s effect to Special Summon Hare, then used Splash Mage, Rabbit, and Hare to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter.Finally, he used Crypter and Magnamhut to Link Summon Accesscode Talker, banished Splash Mage to destroy Tyrant, then banished Crypter to destroy True Light. With no other ways to defend himself, Lewis conceded.
Sacco will be moving on to the Top 16, one step closer to being crowned the winner of YCS Providence!
