Round 4 Feature Match: Maurice Antwon Brantley vs. Joshua Riley Del Mundo

In our Round 4 Feature Match, we have two Duelists that have each travelled a long way to compete at YCS Anaheim! Maurice Antwon Brantley is from Miami, Florida, playing the very popular Yummy strategy, while Joshua Riley Del Mundo travelled down from Vancouver, British Columbia, and he’s his trusted Maliss Deck! Both players are entering the round with a perfect record, but only one of them will be able to remain undefeated!

Duel 1

Del Mundo won the die roll and chose to go first! His opening hand contained Effect Veiler, Infinite Impermanence, Maliss in Underground, Fiendsmith Engraver, and Maliss <P> White Rabbit. He started by activating the effect of Engraver, discarding it to search for Fiendsmith’s Tract. He then Normal Summoned White Rabbit, Setting Maliss <C> MTP-07 from his Deck. Next, Del Mundo activated Maliss in Underground, banishing Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck, then Special Summoning it back! He activated Dormouse’s effect, banishing Maliss <P> Chessy Cat from his Deck and summoning it back, as well. He used all White Rabbit, Dormouse, and Chessy Cat to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder, then activated Binder’s effect, banishing Brantley’s Droll and his own Chessy Cat and White Rabbit. He Special Summoned White Rabbit back to his side of the field and Set a card to his backrow. Here, Brantley activated the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being, Tributing all monsters on the field and Special Summoning a Primal Being Token to Del Mundo’s side of the field. Del Mundo then ended his turn. 

Brantley started off by Normal Summoning Lollipo☆Yummy, attempting to return Del Mundo’s White Rabbit to the Deck, but Del Mundo responded with Infinite Impermanence! Brantley then used Lollipo to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy, then Special Summoned Cooky☆Yummy from his hand. He used Snatchy and Cooky to Synchro Summon Cupsy☆Yummy Way, adding Cupsy☆Yummy and Marshmao☆Yummy to his hand and discarding Marshmao. He Special Summoned Cupsy from hand, but when he activated its effect, Del Mundo responded with the effect of Effect Veiler! Brantley Chained the effect of Cupsy☆Yummy Way, returning it to the Extra Deck to Special Summon back Snatchy and Cooky from the Graveyard. He activated their effects, placing Yummyusment☆Mignon to his side of the field and destroying Del Mundo’s Primal Being Token. Del Mundo then activated Maliss <C> MTP-07, but Brantley Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring

Without any way to stop Brantley from continuing to flood the field with Yummy monsters, Del Mundo conceded the first Duel. 

Duel 2

Del Mundo chose to go first again! He opened with Fiendsmith Engraver, Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, Maliss <P> March Hare, and two copies of Kashtira Unicorn. He began by Special Summoning Unicorn, then activated the effect of Engraver, discarding it to search for Fiendsmith’s Tract. He then activated Unicorn’s effect, adding Kashtira Birth from his Deck to his hand. He activated Tract, searching for and discarding Fabled Lurrie, used Lurrie to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Requiem, then Tributed Requiem to Special Summon Lacrima the Crimson Tears from the Deck and send Fiendsmith in Paradise to the Graveyard. Next, he returned Lurrie to the Deck to Special Summon Engraver from the Graveyard, then used Engraver and Lacrima to Link Summon Fiendsmith’s Sequence! However, when he activated its effect, Brantley Chained Infinite Impermanence!

Next, Del Mundo Normal Summoned March Hare, then used March Hare and Sequence to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom and search for .Maliss in Underground. He activated Underground, banishing Maliss in the Mirror from his Deck, then activated the Mirror’s effect, banishing March Hare from his Graveyard to add Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck to his hand. He added March Hare back to his hand, then activated its other effect, Special Summoning it by banishing the Dormouse from his hand, then Special Summoned Dormouse back to the field. He activated the Dormouse’s effect, banishing Maliss <P> White Rabbit, Special Summoning it back to the field, and Setting Maliss <C> GWC-06 from his Deck. He used White Rabbit, Dormouse, and Red Ransom to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder, and activated its effect to banish his own Red Ransom and Brantley’s Infinite Impermanence. Del Mundo then Special Summoned back the Red Ransom, and used its effect to banish Maliss <P> Chessy Cat from his Deck, then summoned it back to the field, as well. Del Mundo used March Hare, Chessy, and White Binder to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter, then used White Binder and Crypter to Link Summon S:P Little Knight! He used S:P’s effect to banish White Binder from the Graveyard, then Special Summoned White Binder back and drew another copy of March Hare. He activated White Binder’s other effect, Setting Maliss <C> MTP-07 from his Deck, then activated Kashtira Birth and ended his turn. 

Brantley began his turn by activating Harpie’s Feather Duster! Del Mundo responded by activating both Maliss <C> GWC-06 and Maliss <C> MTP-07, adding Maliss <P> Chessy Cat to his hand and Special Summoning Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter back to the field. Brantley then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, searching for Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones. He activated Hornet Drones, then used the Token to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. Here, Del Mundo activated the effect of Crypter, returning Mirror to the Deck and banishing Kagari! Brantley followed up by activating Triple Tactics Thrust, adding Lightning Storm to his hand, then activated Lightning Storm to destroy all of Del Mundo’s monsters. In response, Del Mundo activated the effect of S:P, banishing itself and White Binder, then activated White Binder’s effect to Special Summon it back to the field and draw a card! On summon, he activated the effect of White Binder, banishing Crypter and March Hare from his own Graveyard and Hornet Drones from the opponent’s Graveyard. Afterwards, Del Mundo added March Hare back to hand and Special Summoned Crypter back to the field. 

Brantley then Special Summoned Marshmao☆Yummy. In response, Del Mundo activated the effect of Fiendsmith in Paradise in the Graveyard, sending Fiendsmith’s Desirae to the Graveyard, then used Desirae’s effect to send Brantley’s Marshmao to the Graveyard. With just one final card in hand, Brantley Normal Summoned another Marshmao! He used it to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy, and activated Snatchy’s effect to place Yummyusment☆Mignon to his side of the field. However, when he attempted to activated Mignon’s effect to Special Summon a Yummy monster back to his side of the field, Del Mundo responded with Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Unable to make any additional pushes, Brantley conceded. We’re moving on to game 3! 

Duel 3

Del Mundo’s opening hand contained Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, Fiendsmith’s Tract, Maliss in Underground, Effect Veiler, and Called by the Grave

Brantley started off his turn by activating Obedience Schooled, Special Summoning Cooky☆Yummy, Cupsy☆Yummy, and Marshmao☆Yummy from the Deck! He used Cupsy to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy and place Yummyusment☆Acroquey to his side of the field, then used Marshmao and Snatchy to Synchro Summon Cupsy☆Yummy Way. He activated Cupsy Way’s effect, searching for Cupsy☆Yummy and Marshmao☆Yummy and discarding Lollipo☆Yummy. He used Cooky to Link Summon another Snatchy, then Special Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy from hand and searched for Yummy☆Surprise! Brantley then Set 3 cards to his backrow and ended his turn. 

Del Mundo drew another Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion for turn! He began by activating Fiendsmith’s Tract, searching for and discarding Fabled Lurrie. He activated Lurrie’s effect to Special Summon it back to the field; here, Brantley activated the effect of Cupsy☆Yummy Way to Special Summon two Yummy monsters from the Graveyard, but Del Mundo responded with the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! In response to the summon of Lurrie, Brantley activated the effect of Snatchy, using Snatchy and Cupsy to Synchro Summon Cooky☆Yummy Way, then activated Cooky☆Yummy Way’s effect to turn Lurrie into face-down Defense Position. Next, Del Mundo activated Maliss in Underground, banishing Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck, then Special Summoned it back to the field. In response to Dormouse’s effect, Brantley activated the effect of Cooky☆Yummy Way; Del Mundo responded by activating Called by the Grave, targeting Cooky, but Brantley responded with Solemn Judgment as Chain Link 4! As a result, Brantley was able to resolve Cooky☆Yummy Way’s effect to Special Summon Cooky☆Yummy and Yummy☆Snatchy from the Graveyard, and he activated Cooky’s effect to destroy Del Mundo’s Dormouse. With only a face-down Lurrie on the field, Del Mundo ended his turn. During the End Phase, Brantley activated Surprise, Special Summoning Marshmao☆Yummy from the Graveyard, then added Surprise back to hand. 

Brantley began his turn by using Marshmao☆Yummy to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy and place Yummyusment☆Mignon to his side of the field. He activated Mignon’s effect, attempting to Special Summon Cupsy☆Yummy from the Graveyard, but Del Mundo Chained the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Brantley then used Cooky and Snatchy to Synchro Summon Lollipo☆Yummy Way, activating its effect to Special Summon Marshmao☆Yummy and Cooky☆Yummy from the Graveyard. Brantley proceeded to the Battle Phase and activated Surprise. Seeing Brantley’s field full of Yummy monsters, Del Mundo conceded.

Brantley wins the Duel and advances to the next round of YCS Anaheim with a 4-0 record!
