YCS Vancouver: General Tech Update
We’re looking at some of the trends here at YCS Vancouver! With the new Justice Hunters set comes three amazing new themes in Yummy, K9, and Dracotail. Players are still learning and adapting to the new format, adding tech cards to their Main Deck and Side Deck to try and improve their matchups against these new strategies. Here are some of the cards that players are using here at YCS Vancouver!
Dinowrestler Pankratops
Yummy is one of the most highly represented Decks here at YCS Vancouver; they’re a scary strategy that is able to summon multiple times on the opponent’s turn, as well as make multiple copies of Herald of the Arc Light. As a result, some players are choosing to run Dinowrestler Pankratops in the Side Deck! Pankratops can be Special Summoned from your hand, as long as your opponent controls more monsters than you, and you can also Tribute it to target and destroy an opponent’s card. In the Yummy matchup, you can use Pankratops to destroy the opponent’s Herald of the Arc Light in battle, then activate its effect to destroy another of your opponent’s cards. On top of that, Pankratops is an EARTH monster, making it a perfect Side Deck option for Vanquish Soul K9 players!
Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit
Being able to activate the effects of monsters in your hand on the opponent’s turn can be extremely powerful, as we’ve seen consistently throughout the game’s history, with cards like Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Nibiru, the Primal Being, and Droll & Lock Bird being competitive staples. Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit is a card that hasn’t been particularly popular recently, but has seen a surge in usage since the release of Justice Hunters. Ogre is able to interact with a number of powerful cards in the format; against Yummy, it can destroy Yummyusment☆Mignon, preventing your opponent from Special Summoning a monster out of the Graveyard. Against Vanquish Soul, it is able to destroy Vanquish Soul, Start! to prevent them from searching for another Vanquish Soul monster. And against any decks looking to use the K9 cards, Ghost Ogre is able to destroy K9-ØØ Lupis and prevent your opponent from conducting an Xyz Summon! This is especially strong, since Lupis would likely be banished afterwards, resulting in your opponent no longer having access to the card for the rest of the Duel.
Metaltronus
Metaltronus is an extremely powerful Quick-Play Spell Card! Recently, Metaltronus was very popular Side Deck, and sometimes even Main Deck, option that was used to get rid of Ryzeal Detonator. Detonator is extremely difficult for some Decks to deal with, so Metaltronus became a way to get rid of the card completely. Recently, Metaltronus hasn’t been as popular, but it has made a resurgence recently as a tech option in the Vanquish Soul K9 mirror match. A key element of the matchup is that players can summon cards like K9-17 Izuna and Vanquish Soul Hollie Sue on the opposing player’s turn. However, Metaltronus can be used to shut down those monsters on your turn, while also potentially bringing out your own copy in the process! Even though your monster’s effect is negated, if you happen to have a Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger or Vanquish Soul Caesar Valius in hand, you could return the Hollie Sue to hand and use it later on. Even if your opponent doesn’t have access to those cards on your turn, Metaltronus is a Quick-Play Spell, so you can Set it to your backrow and use it as an interaction on the opponent’s turn, making this an extremely flexible tech option!
These are just a few of the interesting tech cards that we’re seeing players use here at YCS Vancouver!
