Dragon Duel Championship: Andrew C. vs. Carsen L.
Our Dragon Duel Championship is finally here, and we have two Minnesotan Dragon Duelists! Andrew C. won yesterday’s Dragon Duel event with Mitsurugi Yummy, while Carsen L. took down today’s with P.U.N.K. K9. It may be cold in Minnesota, but these Duels are going to be on fire!
Duel 1
Carsen played first and began the Duel with “A Case for K9”, adding K9-04 Noroi to his hand. Andrew activated Droll & Lock Bird. Carsen Normal Summoned Noroi and used its effect to Special Summon K9-17 Izuna. Izuna sent K9-ØØ Lupis to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Lupis, stacking it with Noroi for K9-17 “Ripper”. He played Emergency Teleport next, and Special Summoned Ukiyoe-P.U.N.K. Sharakusai. Unfortunately, he couldn’t use Sharakusai’s effect due to Noroi’s lingering effect, since he still controlled Izuna. He had no choice but to pass the turn.
Andrew Normal Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy, and Carsen negated it with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Andrew Link Summoned Yummy★Snatchy, which put Yummyusment☆Mignon on the field. He Special Summoned another Cupsy from his hand, then Synchro Summoned Cupsy★Yummy Way. That let him add Cooky☆Yummy and Lollipo☆Yummy to his hand, and he discarded a Mulcharmy Purulia. He activated Marshmao☆Yummy’s effect to Special Summon it from his hand, and Carsen Chained Ripper to negate it. Andrew Chained Cupsy★Yummy Way, returning it to his Extra Deck, and Carsen Chained Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion!
Andrew played Pre-Preparation of Rites, adding Mitsurugi Mirror and Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi to his hand. He activated Habakiri’s effect to Special Summon and Tribute Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji, and Saji’s effect put Mitsurugi Ritual in his hand. Carsen Special Summoned Lupis from his Graveyard. Andrew activated Mitsurugi Ritual to Ritual Summon from the Deck, and Carsen Chained Lupis’s effect, stacking it with Izuna for K9-66X “Jacks”. Mitsurugi Ritual resolved, and Andrew Tributed Habakiri to bring Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi from the Deck. Jacks destroyed Murakumo, but Murakumo destroyed all of Carsen’s monsters. Finally, Habakiri put Mitsurugi Prayers in Andrew’s hand. He played Prayers to Special Summon Murakumo. Then he played Mitsurugi Mirror, Tributing Murakumo to Ritual Summon Habakiri from the Graveyard. Murakumo got a new Prayers and returned to the field. He used both monsters to Xyz Summon The Zombie Vampire, and then use that to Link Summon Gravity Controller. He used Mignon’s effect to revive Cupsy from the Graveyard. He used both his monsters to Synchro Summon Lollipo★Yummy Way, which revived two copies of Cupsy from the Graveyard. He Special Summoned Lollipo from his hand, and it shuffled Lupis back into Carsen’s Deck. Now with an open field and a massive ATK boost from Yummyusment☆Mignon, he attacked with everything to end the Duel!

Duel 2
In Carsen’s Draw Phase, Andrew activated Mulcharmy Purulia. Carsen used the effect of K9-66a Jokul, revealing Izuna, and Special Summoned both monsters. Jokul added another Izuna to his hand, and Andrew drew from Purulia. Then, Andrew activated Droll & Lock Bird, which would lock down Carsen while shutting off his own Purulia effect. Carsen used his monsters to Xyz Summon K9-17 “Ripper”, then Special Summoned Izuna from his hand. It sent Lupis to the Graveyard, and he Special Summoned it. He Set one in his back row to finish.
Andrew Normal Summoned Cupsy, adding Yummy☆Surprise to his hand. Carsen had his own Droll & Lock Bird, then used Lupis’s effect to Xyz Summon K9-66X “Jacks” and destroy Cupsy. Andrew used Surprise to revive Cupsy, and Carsen flipped K9-X Forced Release! He ranked up Jacks into Werewolf and destroyed Cupsy yet again – and Andrew conceded! He was kept off balance and never got a chance to get things going with an Extra Deck monster.

Duel 3
Andrew began the final Duel with Mitsurugi Prayers , Tributing Saji. Carsen responded to Prayers with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Saji’s effect put Mitsurugi Ritual in his hand. He moved to the Main Phase and activated Mitsurugi Ritual, Tributing Habakiri from his hand to Ritual Summon Murakumo from his Deck. Habakiri let him find Mitsurugi Mirror. He played Mitsurugi Mirror, Tributing Murakumo to Ritual Summon Habakiri out of his Graveyard. Murakumo’s effect let it return to the field and add a new Prayers to his hand. He used both his Ritual Monsters to Xyz Summon The Zombie Vampire, and its effect sent four cards from each player’s Deck to the Graveyard, letting Andrew Special Summon a Droll & Lock Bird from Carsen’s Graveyard.
He used The Zombie Vampire to Link Summon Gravity Controller. Then, he used Droll and Gravity Controller to Synchro Summon Cupsy★Yummy Way. Its effect put Cupsy and Marshmao in his hand, and he discarded Marshmao. He used Cupsy★Yummy Way to Link Summon Snatchy, which put Yummyusment☆Mignon on the field. He Special Summoned Cupsy, adding Yummy☆Surprise to his hand. He used Snatchy and Cupsy to Synchro Summon Lollipo★Yummy Way. That brought Cupsy and Cupsy★Yummy Way back to the field with their effects negated. He used both of them to Synchro Summon Shamisen Samsara Sorrowcat. He played Surprise to Special Summon Snatchy from the Graveyard, then used Mignon to Special Summon Marshmao. Marshmao put Surprise back in his hand.
Carsen now activated K9-17 Izuna’s effect in the hand. Andrew responded with Lollipo★Yummy Way, then Chained Snatchy. He used Marshmao and Sorrowcat to Synchro Summon Herald of the Arc Light, and then Special Summoned Cupsy★Yummy Way and Marshmao from the Graveyard. Izuna hit Carsen’s side of the field, and he tried to send Lupis to the Graveyard, but it was banished due to Herald of the Arc Light! Andrew continued, using Snatchy and Marshmao to Link Summon S:P Little Knight and banish Izuna. He Set four cards in his back row to finish the first turn!
Carsen moved directly to the Battle Phase and activated Evenly Matched, but Andrew negated it with Herald of the Arc Light. He didn’t have another way to break through Andrew’s field!
