It all comes down to this! Steven Trifunoski from Toronto, Canada and Kassim Hakim from Queens, New York are in the Finals of YCS Vancouver! Trifunoski won YCS Anaheim last year, and is now looking for a second trophy this weekend. Hakim has made it to the Top Cut of a YCS four times (including this weekend) and is looking for his first YCS trophy. Both Duelists are representing themes from the new Justice Hunters booster set with Trifunoski using a dedicated Yummy Deck and Hakim integrating the new K9 cards into the Vanquish Soul strategy. Both Duelists have done well this weekend, but only one of them can take him the trophy, the Ultra Rare Anotherverse Stratios, and the rest of the first place prizes. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Hakim started off the Match by activating Stake your Soul! and revealing Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring from his hand.

He Special Summoned Vanquish Soul Jiaolong from his Deck and activated its effect by revealing Ash Blossom and Vanquish Soul Razen from his hand. He added Vanquish Soul Hollie Sue from his Deck to his hand and then activated its effect to Special Summon it by revealing Razen from his hand. He Normal Summoned Razen next and activated its effect to add Vanquish Soul Dr. Mad Love from his Deck to his hand. He activated Hollie Sue’s effect by revealing Ash Blossom and Mad Love from his hand and then Special Summoned another Jiaolong from his Deck. He combined both copies of Jiaolong with Hollie Sue to Xyz Summon Number 67: Pair-a-Dice Smasher! He detached 2 Xyz Materials from it to activate its effect and Trifunoski Chained Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to destroy it! Hakim could no longer manipulate the die roll! Trifunoski rolled a 5 and Hakim rolled a 12, locking Hakim out of monster effects until his following turn! Hakim Link Summoned Rock of the Vanquisher and then passed his turn with no other cards on his field and 4 cards in his hand.

Trifunoski drew Infinite Impermanence and added it to his hand of Yummyusment★Acroquey, Yummyusment☆Mignon, Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, and Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit. He activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and Hakim conceded, realizing he would be defeated that turn since he wasn’t able to activate any monster effects due to his own Number 67: Pair-a-Dice Smasher’s effect.

The activation of Hakim’s Number 67: Pair-a-Dice Smasher’s effect backfires, allowing Trifunoski to take a quick victory in the first Duel!

Duel Two

Hakim started off Duel 2 by activating Reinforcement of the Army. Trifunoski Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Hakim Chained Called by the Grave to banish the Ash Blossom and resolve the effect of Reinforcement of the Army. Hakim added Vanquish Soul Razen from his Deck to his hand and then Normal Summoned it. He activated its effect but lost out to Dominus Purge. Next, Hakim Special Summoned Vanquish Soul Heavy Borger from his hand with its effect by returning Razen to his hand. He activated Heavy Borger’s effect by revealing K9-66a Jokul from his hand to try to draw a card, but Trifunoski activated Infinite Impermanence to negate its effect. Hakim Set a card to his back row and then ended his turn.

Trifunoski drew Mulcharmy Purulia and added it to his hand of Cupsy☆Yummy and Dominus Impulse.

In the Draw Phase, Hakim activated Heavy Borger’s effect to try to draw a card, but Trifunoski activated Purge from his hand to negate the effect and destroy the Heavy Borger. Trifunoski Normal Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy from his hand and activated its effect to add Yummy☆Surprise from his Deck to his hand. Next, he sent Cupsy to the Graveyard to Link Summon Yummy★Snatchy and activated Snatchy’s effect to place Yummyusment☆Mignon in his Field Spell Zone. He activated its effect to Special Summon Cupsy from his Graveyard and then sent Cupsy and Snatchy to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Cupsy★Yummy Way. He activated its effect to add Cooky☆Yummy and Lollipo☆Yummy from his Deck to his hand and discard the Purulia. Next, he sent Cupsy★Yummy Way to the Graveyard to Link Summon Snatchy and Special Summoned Lollipo☆Yummy from his hand. He sent Snatchy and Lollipo to the Graveyard to Synchro Summon Lollipo★Yummy Way and used its effect to Special Summon Snatchy and Lollipo. Trifunoski Special Summoned Cooky☆Yummy from his hand next. Trifunoski entered his Battle Phase, and attacks from his 4 Yummy monsters, each boosted by 2000 ATK thanks to Yummyusment☆Mignon, wiped out all of Hakim’s Life Points!
