It’s time for more Dueling here at YCS Anaheim! We’ve got Chauncey Truong, from San Diego, California, using a Mitsurugi Yummy Deck! He’s facing Carlo Carrillo Toscano, from Guadalajara, Mexico, playing Sky Strikers!

Duel 1

Truong won the dice roll and played first. Carrillo had a hand of Upstart Goblin, Sky Striker Mecha Modules – Multirole, Triple Tactics Thrust, Sky Striker Mobilize – Linkage!, and Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor.

Truong started with his own Sky Striker card: Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones, then used the Sky Striker Ace Token to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. He returned Hornet Drones to his hand and played it again for another Token. He Special Summoned Cooky☆Yummy, using it and Kagari to Synchro Summon Cupsy★Yummy Way. He added Cupsy☆Yummy and Marshmao☆Yummy to his hand, discarding Marshmao. He used Cupsy★Yummy Way to Link Summon Yummy★Snatchy, which put Yummyusment☆Mignon on the field. He Special Summoned Cupsy, using its effect to get Yummy☆Surprise in his hand. He tuned Snatchy to Cupsy for Lollipo★Yummy Way. It brought Cupsy and Cooky back to the field, then he tuned Lollipo★Yummy Way to Cooky for Shamisen Samsara Sorrowcat. He tuned that to Cupsy for Herald of the Arc Light.

Truong then activated the effect of Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi, bringing Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji to the field and Tributing it. Saji put Mitsurugi Ritual in his hand. He played Mitsurugi Ritual, Tributing Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa and Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi from his Deck to Ritual Summon Habakiri from his hand (Aramasa and Kusanagi were banished by Herald). Kusanagi put Mitsurugi Ritual in his hand, and Aramasa put another Habakiri in his hand. He played Mitsurugi Ritual again, Tributing Habakiri from his field to bring forth Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi from his Deck. Habakiri put Mitsurugi Prayers in his hand, then returned to the field. He activated Surprise to Special Summon Marshmao, getting Surprise back to his hand. He used Marshmao to Link Summon Snatchy. He Set three cards in his back row to finish.

Carrillo drew Radiant Typhoon Vision. He played Widow Anchor to negate Herald, then Chained Linkage – Truong negated Linkage with Herald while he could. Herald’s effect put Mitsurugi Mirror in Truong’s hand. Carrillo activated Multirole, and Truong responded with Murakumo’s effect. Unfortunately for Truong, this doesn’t accomplish anything – Carrillo simply let Murakumo resolve and didn’t discard anything, since the activation was not negated. Multirole still hit the field, able to use its effects later (for future reference, you’d want to wait until the actual effect is being activated to respond with Murakumo).

Carrillo Set Upstart Goblin, then targeted it with Multirole, sending it to the Graveyard to make sure his cards resolve this turn. He played Thrust, adding Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to his hand. He played Radiant Typhoon Vision, adding Mystical Space Typhoon to his hand. Truong played Yummy☆Surprise, reviving Cupsy★Yummy Way. Carrillo continued, using Engage to add Sky Striker Ace – Raye to his hand and draw Called by the Grave. He Normal Summoned Raye, and Truong flipped Prayers, Tributing Murakumo. Carrillo responded with Called by the Grave to banish Murakumo! Prayers resolved, with Truong putting another Habakiri in his hand and taking 800 damage to Special Summon Saji in Defense Position. Saji’s effect put a new Prayers in his hand. Carrillo used Raye to Link Summon Kagari, returning Engage to his hand. He played it to find Linkage and draw Evenly Matched. He moved to the Battle Phase, attacking with Kagari to destroy Truong’s Sky Striker Ace Token. Carrillo played Linkage, tagging Kagari out for Sky Striker Ace = Zero. He activated Zero’s effect, but Truong had his own Called by the Grave to banish and negate it!

Carrillo Set Mystical Space Typhoon, then used Multirole’s effect. Truong responded with Cupsy★Yummy Way’s effect, bringing Marshmao and Cupsy back. Multirole then put Linkage, Widow Anchor, and Engage on the field. Marshmao put Surprise back in Truong’s hand, and Cupsy let him draw a card.

Truong used Mignon to revive Cooky and moved to the Battle Phase. He attacked with Snatchy, boosted to 2600 ATK by Mignon. Carrillo flipped Linkage, then Chained Widow Anchor targeting Habakiri. He used Habakiri for Linkage to bring in Sky Striker Ace – Kaina, using its effect to prevent Snatchy from attacking. Cupsy attacked Kaina, and Truong activated Prayers to revive Habakiri, weakening Kaina. Carrillo played Mystical Space Typhoon on Mignon, but Truong’s Surprise took Mignon off the field, then returned it to play. When Kaina was destroyed, Carrillo Special Summoned Raye from his Graveyard. Habakiri attacked Raye, and Carrillo used Raye’s effect to bring in Kagari. Kagari returned Linkage to his hand. Habakiri continued its attack against Kagari now. The rest of Truong’s monsters, boosted by Mignon, attacked to finish the first Duel!

Duel 2

Carrillo began the next Duel with Widow Anchor, Raye, Linkage, Forbidden Droplet, and The Black Goat Laughs.

He Normal Summoned Raye, using it to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Shizuku. He Set the rest of his hand, then used Shizuku’s effect in the End Phase to get Engage in his hand.

Truong played Mitsurugi Prayers in his Draw Phase, adding Habakiri to his hand. He then played Harpie’s Feather Duster! Carrillo responded with The Black Goat Laughs, naming Yummy★Snatchy, then played Linkage to tag Shizuku out for Zero. Everything else was destroyed! Truong used Habakiri’s effect to Special Summon Saji and Tribute it, then used Saji’s effect to get Mitsurugi Ritual in his hand. He used that to Ritual Summon Habakiri, Tributing Kusanagi and Aramasa from his Deck. Kusanagi put Mitsurugi Ritual in hand, and Aramasa got him another Habakiri. Carrillo tried activating Zero’s effect, but Truong had Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Truong played Mitsurugi Ritual, Tributing Habakiri to bring in Murakumo. The Tributed Habakiri returned to the field and added a Prayers to his hand. He Normal Summoned Cooky, unable to Link Summon Yummy★Snatchy due to Black Goat, but still able to attack with it.

He attacked with everything, dropping Carrillo to 1400 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, he stacked his Ritual Monsters for The Zombie Vampire. Its effect let him fill both Graveyards, then he Special Summoned… Droll & Lock Bird. Not the best, but still an extra monster on the field. He used The Zombie Vampire to Link Summon Gravity Controller, then used that with Cooky for Cupsy★Yummy Way. He added Marshmao and Cupsy to his hand, discarding a Habakiri. He Special Summoned Cupsy, adding Yummy☆Surprise to his hand. He used Cupsy and Droll to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, then Set four back row cards.

Carrillo had only Engage in hand, and drew Triple Tactics Thrust. He now had a full Graveyard of Spell Cards at least. In the Draw Phase, Truong flipped Prayers to take 800 damage and revive Murakumo. Carrillo banished The Black Goat Laughs from his Graveyard, naming Murakumo, and Truong responded with Cupsy★Yummy Way to bring in Cupsy and Cooky. Cupsy let him draw a card. Carrillo played Engage, adding Linkage to his hand and drawing Radiant Typhoon Vision. Truong activated Droll & Lock Bird’s effect from his hand. Carrillo activated Thrust, then Chained Linkage. Linkage sent Thrust to the Graveyard to bring in Zero, and then Thrust’s effect put Dimensional Barrier on the field. He sent Zero to attack S:P Little Knight. Before the Damage Step, he used Zero’s effect, Tributing it to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Roze and Raye, then destroyed S:P Little Knight! Raye attacked Cooky. Then Carrillo used Raye’s effect to bring in Kagari, attempting to return Widow Anchor to his hand. Truong responded with Forbidden Droplet, sending Cupsy to the Graveyard to negate Kagari! In Main Phase 2, Carrillo use Roze and Kagari to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Zeke, which banished Murakumo! Finally, he played Radiant Typhoon Vision to get Mystical Space Typhoon in hand, and played it. Truong Chained the targeted Yummy☆Surprise to revive Cooky. Cooky lowered Zeke’s ATK by 1000.

Truong Normal Summoned Marshmao, adding Surprise back to his hand. He used Marshmao to Link Summon Snatchy, but couldn’t activate its effect since The Zombie Vampire had put all his Field Spells in the Graveyard. Carrillo flipped Dimensional Barrier to prevent any Synchro Summons. Instead, Truong Xyz Summoned Super Starslayer TY-PHON – Sky Crisis! It attacked over the weakened Zeke to end the Match!
