Round 10 Feature Match: Pierry Cange vs. Duncan Tucker

We’re in the first Swiss Round of Day 2 here at YCS Pittsburgh! Duelists competed in 9 Swiss Rounds yesterday, and those who did well enough to return will now compete in 5 more Swiss Rounds followed by a cut to the single-elimination Top 8! Two of the Duelists returning to compete today are Pierry Cange from Brockton, Massachusetts and Duncan Tucker from Superior, Nebraska who achieved 7-2 records in yesterday’s Swiss Rounds. Cange is using a D/D/D Deck, boosted by new support from Doom of Dimensions. Tucker is running a Bystial @Ignister Maliss Deck, which has seen a resurgence in popularity this weekend. Neither Duelist can afford a loss in this round if they want to keep the dream of a Top 8 finish alive, so the pressure is on. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Tucker started off Duel 1 by activating Terraforming and Chaining the effect of Dimension Shifter.

He resolved Terraforming’s effect to add Maliss in Underground from his Deck to his hand and then activated Maliss in Underground. He used its effect to banish Maliss
Chessy Cat from his Deck and paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon it from banishment. Once it hit the field, Cange activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Next, Tucker activated Chessy Cat’s effect, but lost out to Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Tucker Normal Summoned Maliss
Dormouse next and used its effect. He banished Maliss
White Rabbit from his Deck and then paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon the White Rabbit from banishment. He activated White Rabbit’s effect to Set Maliss <C> MTP-07 from his Deck and then used all 3 monsters as Link Materials to Link Summon Maliss Hearts Crypter, allowing Cange to draw a card from the effect of Fuwalos. Tucker Special Summoned Dormouse from banishment by paying another 300 Life Points and then Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Cange drew Droll & Lock Bird for his turn, adding it to his hand of D/D Savant Kepler, D/D Gryphon, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, and D/D Scale Surveyor. He Normal Summoned Kepler and activated its effect to add Dark Contract with the Gate from his Deck to his hand. He activated the Dark Contract and then Special Summoned Scale Surveyor from his hand. Next, he activated the effect of his Dark Contract, prompting Tucker to Chain MTP-07. Tucker added Maliss
March Hare from his Deck to his hand and banished the Dark Contract, preventing its effect from resolving. Next, Cange Special Summoned D/D Gryphon from his hand with its effect. He used Kepler and Scale Surveyor as Link Materials to Summon D/D/D Abyss King Gilgamesh. He activated its effect, but lost out to Tucker’s Infinite Impermanence. Next, Cange used Gilgamesh as an Xyz Material to Summon D/D/D Deviser King Deus Machinex. He entered his Battle Phase next and attacked Hearts Crypter with Machinex to destroy it and inflict 500 points of battle damage. Hearts Crypter was banished due to the effect of the previously activated Dimension Shifter and Tucker paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon it back to the field with its effect. In Main Phase 2, Cange used his 2 monsters as Link Materials to Summon another Abyss King Gilgamesh. In the End Phase, Tucker used his Hearts Crypter’s effect to return MTP-07 from banishment to his Deck and banish Gilgamesh from the field.

Tucker drew a card and Cange activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Tucker used Dormouse’s effect to banish White Rabbit from his Deck and then paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon it. He used White Rabbit’s effect to Set Maliss <C> TB-11 from his Deck and then switched Dormouse into Attack Position. He attacked directly with Dormouse, White Rabbit, and Hearts Crypter, dropping Tucker down to 1600 Life Points, then used Hearts Crypter’s effect to banish the Crypter itself! He paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon the Crypter back to the field, and then another attack from Hearts Crypter wiped out the rest of Cange’s Life Points!

An early activation of Dimension Shifter and a strong combination of Maliss cards allow Duncan Tucker to take a quick victory in the first Duel of the Match! Pierry Cange chose to go first in Duel 2!

Duel Two

Cange opened up Duel 2 with Droll & Lock Bird, Called by the Grave, Dominus Impulse, D/D Savant Copernicus, and D/D Necro Slime.

He Set Called by the Grave and then ended his turn with no further play.

Tucker activated Maliss in Underground and used its effect to banish Maliss
Dormouse from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon it from banishment and then used its effect to banish White Rabbit from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon the White Rabbit and then used White Rabbit’s effect to Set MTP-07 face-down from his Deck. He Normal Summoned Mulcharmy Fuwalos next and then sent all 3 of his monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss Hearts Crypter. He entered his Battle Phase and then attacked with Hearts Crypter. Next, he activated MTP-07 by banishing Hearts Crypter and added March Hare from his Deck to his hand. He paid 900 Life Points to try to Special Summon Hearts Crypter back to the field next so that he could use it to end the Duel, but he lost out to Cange’s Dominus Impulse. Tucker Set 2 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.

Cange drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and then Normal Summoned Copernicus. He activated its effect, but lost out to Infinite Impermanence. He ended his turn with no other play.

Tucker activated the effect of the March Hare in his hand, and Cange Chained Called by the Grave to banish Dormouse from the Graveyard. Tucker banished White Rabbit from his Graveyard to Summon the March Hare and then paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon White Rabbit. He Set a card to his back row and then sent March Hare to the Graveyard to Link Summon Linguriboh. Next, he banished March Hare to activate his newly Set TB-11 and Cange Chained Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Tucker paid 300 Life Points to return his banished March Hare to his hand. He attacked Copernicus with Linguriboh to destroy it and send Copernicus face-up to the Extra Deck.

Cange drew Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion and then Set his Necro Slime face-down to protect his Life Points.

Tucker Special Summoned March Hare from his hand by banishing White Rabbit from his Graveyard and then paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon the White Rabbit. He then sent March Hare, White Rabbit, and Linguriboh to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss White Binder. He used White Binder’s effect to banish March Hare from his Graveyard and paid 300 Life Points to return March Hare to his hand. He then Set MTP-07 from his Graveyard with White Binder’s effect and Normal Summoned March Hare. He sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Accesscode Talker next and targeted White Binder in his Graveyard to increase Accesscode’s ATK by 3000. He then banished White Binder from his Graveyard to destroy the face-down Necro Slime with Accesscode’s effect, then paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon White Binder back from banishment. Direct attacks from Accesscode Talker and White Binder were enough to wipe out all of Cange’s Life Points!

Duncan Tucker takes the 2-0 win with his Maliss Deck!
