Round 10 Feature Match: Thomas LoRusso vs. Joe Vu
We’re back with Day 2 of YCS Providence! We have Thomas LoRusso, from Brockton, MA, playing a Fiendsmith Tenpai Dragons Deck! He’s facing Joe Vu, from Buffalo, NY, playing @Ignister Maliss! LoRusso has yet to lose even a single Duel against Maliss in this event, but can he keep the streak going in Day 2?
Duel 1
LoRusso won the dice roll and chose to play first. He began with a hand of Effect Veiler, Sangen Summoning, Tenpai Dragon Paidra, and two copies of Tenpai Dragon Genroku. He Normal Summoned Paidra and activated its effect, adding Sangen Kaimen to his hand. He activated Sangen Summoning, and used it to add Tenpai Dragon Chundra to his hand, then discard a Genroku. He tried to Special Summon Chundra, and Vu activated Dominus Impulse. LoRusso played Kaimen to Special Summon Chundra, then Link Summoned Hieratic Seal of the Heavenly Spheres.

Vu Set a card in his back row, then Normal Summoned Maliss <P> Dormouse. He used it to banish a Maliss <P> White Rabbit, and paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon it. White Rabbit put Maliss <C> GWC-06 on the field. He activated Terraforming to find Maliss in Underground, and used that to banish Maliss <P> Chessy Cat. He Special Summoned Chessy Cat, and its effect let him banish Maliss <P> March Hare to draw two new cards. March Hare’s effect let it return to his hand. He used all his monsters to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder, which targeted Paidra, Chundra, and his own Dormouse. LoRusso negated that with Effect Veiler. Vu used March Hare’s effect, Special Summoning it by banishing Dormouse, and that let him Special Summon the Dormouse as well. He used all his monsters to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter, and moved to the Battle Phase. Hearts Crypter attacked the Hieratic Seal, forcing LoRusso to activate its effect. Vu flipped Maliss <C> MTP-07 in response, banishing Hearts Crypter. Hieratic Seal bounced LoRusso’s Sangen Summoning. MTP-07 put March Hare in Vu’s hand. Then, the Tributed Hieratic Seal’s effect Special Summoned Bystial Druiswurm with 0/0 stats, and Vu paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon Hearts Crypter with its ATK doubled. Rather than attack Druiswurm, Vu moved to Main Phase 2. He flipped GWC-06 by banishing Hearts Crypter, to Special Summon White Binder and gain some Life Points. White Binder’s effect put MTP-07 on the field again.
LoRusso drew Nibiru, the Primal Being, well past its usefulness. He activated Sangen Summoning and tried to add a card, but Vu flipped MTP-07 to find a White Rabbit and banish Sangen Summoning before it could resolve. LoRusso Normal Summoned Genroku and moved to the Battle Phase. He activated Genroku’s effect, but Vu had Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring!
Vu started by using White Binder to Set GWC-06. He then used March Hare to banish Dormouse from the Graveyard, Special Summoning both monsters. Dormouse banished Chessy Cat from the Deck, and he Special Summoned that as well. He activated Chessy Cat’s effect, banishing March Hare for two new cards, and then returned the March Hare to his hand. He used March Hare, Dormouse, and Chessy Cat to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom, putting Maliss in the Mirror in his hand. He had only summoned four monsters, playing around the Main Phase threat of Nibiru. He moved to the Battle Phase, then flipped GWC-06 by banishing Red Ransom, to Special Summon Hearts Crypter. Then he Special Summoned the banished Red Ransom. He activated Maliss in the Mirror, banishing Hearts Crypter to target Druiswurm. That let him Special Summon Hearts Crypter with double the ATK! Finally, he used Hearts Crypter’s effect to banish Druiswurm. He now had a clear path to attack directly and end the first Duel!
Duel 2
LoRusso chose to play first again, and started with Bystial Magnamhut, Nibiru, Fiendsmith’s Tract, Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, and Chundra. He played Tract to find and discard Fabled Lurrie, and Special Summoned it. He Link Summoned Fiendsmith’s Requiem, which brought Lacrima the Crimson Tears to the field. Lacrima sent Fiendsmith Engraver to the Graveyard. Then he Special Summoned Engraver by returning Lurrie to the Deck. He equipped Requiem to Lacrima, then used both cards to bring Necroquip Princess to the field. He stacked his monsters for D/D/D Wave High King Caesar! He activated Magnamhut, banishing his Lacrima, and then Normal Summoned Chundra. He Link Summoned Hieratic Seal, and finally used Magnamhut’s effect to put Bystial Druiswurm in his hand.
Vu played Infinite Impermanence to negate Caesar. He Set a card in his back row, then Normal Summoned Dormouse. LoRusso activated Hieratic Seal, returning Dormouse to the hand, and then the Tributed Hieratic brought Koa’ki Meiru Drago to the field! Vu thought a while about how to approach this with his all DARK Deck. He decided his course of action was… a concession!
Duel 3
Vu chose to play first. He led with Dormouse, banishing White Rabbit, and he Special Summoned it. White Rabbit put Maliss <C> TB-11 on the field. He Link Summoned Splash Mage, which revived Dormouse. He then Link Summoned Red Ransom to get Maliss in Underground in his hand. He played that to banish Maliss in the Mirror from his Deck. Mirror banished Dormouse from his Graveyard to put March Hare in his hand, and then he Special Summoned Dormouse. He used Dormouse and Red Ransom to Link Summon Cyberse Wicckid. He activated March Hare, Special Summoning it by banishing Red Ransom. That let him Special Summon Red Ransom and banish a Chessy Cat, and also use Wicckid’s effect to banish a second Dormouse to put Backup @Ignister in his hand. He Special Summoned Chessy Cat, banishing March Hare to draw two cards, and March Hare returned to his hand. He used Red Ransom and the on-field March Hare to Link Summon Firewall Dragon. Then, he used Chessy Cat to Link Summon Linguriboh, triggering his Firewall Dragon to Special Summon Backup @Ignister. Backup put Wizard @Ignister in his hand, and he discarded a Maliss in Underground. He used Wizard’s effect, Special Summoning it and a March Hare. He used Backup, Wizard, and March Hare to Link Summon Hearts Crypter. Then he Special Summoned another Backup from his hand. He used Backup, Linguriboh, and Hearts Crypter to Link Summon White Binder. White Binder banished Underground and Hearts Crypter from the Graveyard, and he Special Summoned Hearts Crypter with doubled ATK. White Binder put GWC-06 on the field. He flipped TB-11 by banishing White Binder, to Special Summon a March Hare. He Special Summoned the banished White Binder and drew a card. He used Hearts Crypter, White Binder, and March Hare to Link Summon Allied Code Talker @Ignister! Allied Code Talker revived Red Ransom to finish the turn.

LoRusso had a hand of Fiendsmith Engraver, Fiendsmith’s Tract, Fabled Lurrie, Genroku, and Chundra. He drew Sangen Kaimen. He started with Tract, adding a second Engraver to his hand and discarding Lurrie. He activated Lurrie’s effect, and Vu Chained Droll & Lock Bird. LoRusso Chained Sangen Kaimen, and Vu Chained another Droll & Lock Bird! Kaimen couldn’t find a new card, but could still Special Summon Genroku from LoRusso’s hand. Lurrie hit the field, and LoRusso used it to Link Summon Requiem. He activated Requiem’s effect, bringing Lacrima to the field. Lacrima put Fiendsmith in Paradise in the Graveyard. LoRusso activated the Graveyard effect of Tract, fusing Lacrima with his two Engravers in the hand, into Fiendsmith’s Desirae! Vu flipped GWC-06, then Chained Firewall to bounce away LoRusso’s monsters! GWC-06 brought White Binder to the field. LoRusso activated the in-hand effect of Genroku (because it was put in the hand by Firewall), then Chained Fiendsmith in Paradise since Vu just Special Summoned. Vu activated his White Binder, banishing the two Engravers and his own Hearts Crypter. Fiendsmith in Paradise sent Desirae to the Graveyard, and Genroku hit the field. Desirae put Lurrie back in the Deck to target Allied Code Talker. Vu Chained his banished Hearts Crypter, then Chained Linguriboh to tag out with Allied Code Talker. LoRusso used Genroku’s effect, but it was hit by Ash Blossom. He Normal Summoned Chundra, and it was banished by Hearts Crypter. LoRusso had nothing left on the field or in the hand, and Vu had more than enough to end the Match!
Joe Vu takes the Match with @Ignister Maliss!
