Erik Carlson from Chicago, Illinois and Vincent Costanza from Buffalo, New York are both 6-1 in the 2025 North America Remote Duel YCS, and now they’re Dueling against one another in today’s final Swiss Round! Carlson is using a Mitsurugi Yummy Deck, which is one of the most popular Decks at the top tables this late in the tournament, while Costanza is on an @Ignister Maliss strategy. Only one of these Duelists can advance to Day 2 with a 7-1 record. It’s time to Duel!

Duel One

Costanza started off Duel 1 by Normal Summoning Maliss <P> Chessy Cat and used its effect to banish Maliss in the Mirror from his hand and draw 2 cards. Next, he sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Linguriboh and activated the effect of Backup @Ignister to Summon it from his hand. He used its effect to add Wizard @Ignister from his Deck to his hand and discard a Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Next, he sent Linguriboh and Chessy Cat to the Graveyard to Link Summon Haggard Lizardose. He activated its effect to modify its ATK by banishing Chessy Cat from his Graveyard, then paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon Chessy Cat back to the field. He sent Lizardose and Chessy Cat to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom. He activated its effect to add Maliss in Underground from his Deck to his hand and then activated it to banish Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon Dormouse from banishment with its effect. Next, he used its on-field effect to banish Maliss <P> White Rabbit from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon White Rabbit from banishment and used its effect on the field to Set Maliss <C> GWC-06 from his Deck to his field. He sent his 3 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss <Q> White Binder next and used its effect to banish Red Ransom and Chessy Cat from his Graveyard. He paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon Red Ransom from banishment and banish Maliss <P> March Hare from his Deck. He paid 300 Life Points to return the banished March Hare to his hand with its effect and then activated March Hare’s effect in his hand. He banished Dormouse from his Graveyard to Special Summon the March Hare and then sent March Hare, Red Ransom, and White Binder to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Hearts Crypter. He activated the effect of Wizard @Ignister in his hand next, targeting March Hare in his Graveyard, and Special Summoned both the Wizard and the March Hare. Next, he sent all three of his monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Allied Code Talker @Ignister and used its effect to Special Summon Red Ransom and White Binder back from his Graveyard and boost the ATK of Allied Code Talker @Ignister. He Set a card to his back row before ending his turn.

Carlson activated Pre-Preparation of Rites to add Mitsurugi Mirror and Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi from his Deck to his hand. He activated Habakiri’s effect in his hand and Costanza activated his Allied Code Talker’s effect by Tributing White Binder to negate the activation of Habakiri’s effect and banish Habakiri. Next, Carlson Normal Summoned Lollipo☆Yummy and activated its effect targeting the Hearts Crypter in Costanza’s Graveyard to return it to the Deck; but Costanza Chained GWC-06 to Special Summon the Hearts Crypter and gain 2500 Life Points. He used Hearts Crypter’s effect and returned the banished Dormouse to his Deck to banish Lollipo☆Yummy. Carlson activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! next, adding Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones from his Deck to his hand. He activated it to Special Summon a Sky Striker Ace Token and then Costanza flipped MTP-07. He added a March Hare from his Deck to his hand and banished the Token. Next, Carlson activated Yummy Surprise to Special Summon Cupsy☆Yummy from his hand. He activated its effect to add Marshmao☆Yummy from his Deck to his hand and then Special Summoned Marshmao☆Yummy from his hand with its effect. He used its effect to return Yummy Surprise from his Graveyard to his hand and then sent Marshmao to the Graveyard to Link Summon Yummy★Snatchy. He activated its effect to place Yummyusment☆Mignon from his Deck into his Field Spell Zone and then activated Yummyusment☆Mignon’s effect to Special Summon Marshmao from his Graveyard. Next, he activated Surprise. He targeted his own Snatchy and targeted Costanza’s Allied Code Talker and Crypter. Carlson Chained Snatchy’s effect to Tune it with a monster and Synchro Summon Cupsy★Yummy Way, and then Surprise’s effect resolved to return Allied Code Talker and Crypter to Costanza’s Extra Deck. Carlson then activated the effect of Cupsy★Yummy Way in a new Chain, adding Cooky☆Yummy and Cupsy☆Yummy from his Deck to his hand and discarding Mitsurugi Mirror. Next, he Special Summon Cooky☆Yummy from his hand and used its effect to reduce Red Ransom’s ATK by 1000. He Special Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy from his hand next and then attempted to enter his Battle Phase, threatening to wipe out all of Costanza’s Life Points. Costanza activated his March Hare’s effect in the hand during the Main Phase. He banished White Binder from his Graveyard to Special Summon the March Hare in Defense Position and then paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon his banished White Binder and draw a card. He used his White Binder’s effect to banish Surprise and Snatchy from Carlson’s Graveyard, and banish March Hare from his own Graveyard. Carlson Chained the effect of Cupsy★Yummy Way to Special Summon Yummy★Snatchy. After White Binder’s effect resolved, Costanza paid 300 Life Points to return his banished March Hare to his hand. On resolution, Costanza activated the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being! With Carlson’s entire field suddenly wiped out by Nibiru, Carlson conceded.

Duel Two

Carlson started off the second Duel by activating Mitsurugi Prayers in the Draw Phase to add Habakiri from his Deck to his hand. He activated its effect in the Main Phase and when Costanza Chained the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Carlson Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to negate it. Carlson Special Summoned Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji and Tributed it, then tried to use Saji’s effect but lost out to Costanza’s Ash Blossom. Carlson Special Summon Marshmao from his hand and used it as a Link Material to Summon Yummy★Snatchy. He used Yummy★Snatchy’s effect to place Yummyusment☆Mignon in his Field Spell Zone and then tried to use the effect of Mignon to Special Summon Marshmao back to the field; but he lost out to Costanza’s Dominus Impulse. Carlson Set 2 cards to his back row and then ended his turn.

Costanza activated Gold Sarcophagus in Main Phase 1. He banished Maliss <P> Dormouse from his Deck and paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon it to his field. He then activated its effect on the field, but lost out to Infinite Impermanence. Next, he Normal Summoned Chessy Cat and sent Dormouse and Chessy Cat to the Graveyard to Link Summon Haggard Lizardose. He used its effect to modify its ATK by banishing Chessy Cat and then paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon Chessy Cat in a new Chain. He sent Chessy Cat and the Lizardos to the Graveyard to Link Summon Maliss <Q> Red Ransom and used Red Ransom’s effect to add Maliss in Underground from his Deck to his hand. He activated it and used its effect to banish Maliss <P> White Rabbit from his Deck and paid 300 Life Points to Special Summon the White Rabbit from banishment. He used White Rabbit’s on-field effect to Set Maliss <C> MTP-07 from his Deck to his field and then activated the MTP-07 by banishing Red Ransom from his field. He added March Hare from his Deck to his hand and then paid 900 Life Points to Special Summon Red Ransom from banishment in a new Chain. He then used Red Ransom’s effect to banish March Hare from his Deck and paid 300 Life Points to return the banished March Hare to his hand. He activated the effect of March Hare in his hand to Special Summon it by banishing Chessy Cat from his Graveyard and then sent his 3 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon White Binder. He used its effect to try to banish Marshmao, Prayers, and Saji from Carlson’s Graveyard. Carlson Chained a face-down Mitsurugi Prayers and Tributed Habakiri from his hand to add Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi from his Deck to his hand and Special Summon Saji from his Graveyard, giving up 800 Life Points. Carlson activated the effects of Habakiri and Saji in Chain to add Mitsurugi Prayers and Mitsurugi Ritual from his Deck to his hand. Next, Costanza activated White Binder’s effect to Set MTP-07 face-down and then Special Summoned Backup @Ignister from his hand. He used its effect to add Wizard @Ignister from his Deck to his hand and discard March Hare. He used Wizard @Ignister’s effect to Special Summon it from his hand along with a March Hare in his Graveyard. He Link Summoned Hearts Crypter next, and then sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Accesscode Talker. He used its effect by targeting Hearts Crypter to increase Accesscode Talker’s ATK by 3000. Then, he banished Lizardose from his Graveyard to destroy Saji with Accesscode Talker’s effect. He used Accesscode Talker’s effect again by banishing Hearts Crypter from his Graveyard in order to destroy Yummy★Snatchy. Next, he activated Hearts Crypter’s effect to Special Summon it from banishment with its ATK doubled by paying 900 Life Points. Direct attacks from Accesscode Talker and Hearts Crypter wiped out all of Carlson’s Life Points!
