We’re beginning the final round of Day 1 here at YCS Vancouver! Hailing from Yelm, WA, we have Ian Powell! He’s attending his first YCS this weekend, and he’s brought a Dragonmaid Dracotail Deck! His opponent is Benjamin McDow, from Victoria, BC, also using a Dracotail Deck!

Duel 1

Powell won the dice roll and chose to play first. He had a hand of Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Dracotail Faimena, and two copies of Dracotail Lukias – no Dragonmaids in sight, but a solid hand nonetheless. McDow made the first move by activating Mulcharmy Purulia. Powell Normal Summoned Lukias, and McDow drew with Purulia. Powell activated Lukias’s effect, McDow responded with Mulcharmy Fuwalos, and Powell negated that with Ash Blossom. Lukias put Dracotail Urgula in Powell’s hand. He used the effect of Faimena, fusing the on-field Lukias with Urgula. Lukias and Urgula together Set Ketu Dracotail and Rahu Dracotail, and Arthalion returned Ash Blossom to Powell’s hand. Powell flipped up Ketu, putting Dracotail Pan in his hand. Then he used Urgula’s effect in the Graveyard, returning it to his Deck to put Faimena back in his hand. He flipped up Rahu, fusing Dracotail Mululu from his Deck and his spare Lukias from the hand into Dracotail Gulamel. Mululu’s effect Set Dracotail Flame on the field.

McDow played Rahu, and Powell negated it with Ash Blossom. McDow Normal Summoned Mululu and activated its effect. Powell responded with Faimena, then Chained Gulamel to destroy Mululu! Powell’s Faimena fused Pan and Gulamel into Secreterion Dragon! Mululu’s effect resolved, but McDow didn’t have enough Fusion Materials for it anymore! Now facing down a Secreterion Dragon, he conceded the first Duel.

Duel 2

McDow chose to play second in the next Duel. Powell had a hand of Dracotail Horn, Nibiru the Primal Being, Harpie’s Feather Duster, Faimena, and Chamber Dragonmaid. He Normal Summoned Chamber Dragonmaid, adding Dragonmaid Changeover to his hand. He played it to fuse Faimena and Nibiru into Arthalion. Faimena was Chain Link 1, and Arthalion was Chain Link 2 targeting Nibiru. McDow responded with Ghost Ogre to destroy Arthalion. Powell’s effects resolved, putting Nibiru in his hand and Ketu Dracotail on the field. He then used Changeover’s effect, returning the Changeover and Chamber to his hand. He flipped up Ketu, adding Dracotail Urgula to his hand. He played Changeover, fusing Chamber and Urgula into Dragonmaid Sheou. Arthalion returned to the field, and Urgula’s effect put Dracotail Flame on the field. He used Urgula’s second effect, returning it to the Deck to add Faimena back to his hand. He Set Dracotail Horn and passed the turn.

McDow started with Ketu Dracotail, and Powell flipped up Flame. McDow tried negating Flame with Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, and Powell negated Ghost Belle with Sheou, tagging it out for House Dragonmaid. Flame resolved, negating Ketu and letting Powell draw Bystial Magnamhut. McDow revealed his hand: another Ketu he couldn’t activate, another Ghost Belle, and a Faimena with nothing to fuse.
