Round 4 Feature Match: Timothy Billiar vs. Matthew McKinney
For our Round 4 Feature Match, we have two Duelists playing Decks that recently received some powerful new support. Timothy Billiar from Team Mike in Some Times is playing the Mitsurugi Sky Striker Deck, a combination of strategies that looks to use the brand new Sky Striker Link Monsters from the Legendary Modern Decks. Meanwhile, Matthew McKinney from Team Metanoise is playing the Magnet Warrior Deck, a theme that received some powerful new support in Burst Protocol and Maze of Muertos. Each of these teams has a 2-1 record, and they’re hoping to make it to Day 2 and beyond. It’s time to Duel!
Duel 1
McKinney won the die roll and chose to go first! He began by Special Summoning Conduction Warrior Linear Magnum Plus MInus, sending Magnet Warrior Omega Plus and Epsilon the Magnet Warrior from his Deck to the Graveyard, then Special Summoned Epsilon, sent Magnet Warrior Sigma Minus to the Graveyard, and Special Summoned back Omega Plus. He used Omega Plus and Epsilon to Xyz Summon Number 55: Gogogo Goliath, then activated its effect to add Sigma Minus back to hand. He then activated Sigma Minus’ effect, using it and Number 55 to Fusion Summon Conduction Warrior Plasma Magnum and search for Magnet Bonding. Here, McKinney activated Plasma Magnum’s effect, sending Tellusion the Magna Warrior to the Graveyard to Special Summon Magnet Warrior Sigma Plus from hand, then used Sigma Plus and Magnum Plus Minus to Link Summon Cross-Sheep.

From here, McKinney activated Magnet Bonding, using Sigma Plus and Plasma Magnum to Fusion Summon Flux Oshsenfeld! He used the effects of Flux and Cross-Sheep to Special Summon back both Epsilon and Sigma Minus from the Graveyard, then used the two to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive! He activated Duo Drive’s effect to search for Ice Ryzeal and Ryzeal Cross, used Plasma Magnum and Duo Drive to Link Summon I:P Masquerena, then Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal, Special Summoned Sword Ryzeal from the Deck and searched for another copy of Ice Ryzeal. Next, he Special Summoned Ext Ryzeal by sending Eclipse Twins to the Graveyard, then used Ice, Sword, and Ext to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Detonator and attach Eclipse Twins to it as Xyz Material. He banished Sigma Plus and Sigma Minus to Special Summon Tellusion the Magna Warrior from the Graveyard, Set a card to his backrow, and ended his turn.
Billiar opened with Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa, Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor, Mitsurugi RItual, and two copies of Triple Tactics Thrust, then drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring for turn! He began by activating Widow Anchor, negating the effect of Ryzeal Detonator. He then Normal Summoned Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa, adding Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi from Deck to hand. He activated the effect of Habakiri, and on resolution, McKinney detached a material from Detonator to negate Habakiri’s effect with Ryzeal Cross. From here, Billiar activated Mitsurugi Ritual, and McKinney Chained the effect of Telusion, destroying Billiar’s Aramasa as Billiar Tributed Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji and Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi from his Deck to Special Summon Habakiri from hand. He searched for Mitsurugi Prayers and added Mitsurugi Ritual back to hand, then activated Ritual once again; here, McKinney activated the effect of I:P, but Billiar Chained Mitsurugi Prayers, Tributing the Habakiri from hand and searching for /futsu. McKinney Link Summoned S:P Little Knight as Billiar Tributed Futsu to summon Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi from his Deck! On resolution, McKinney used S:P’s effect to banish Billiar’s Habakiri, as well as Infinite Impermanence to negate the effect of Murakumo and Cross-Sheep to Special Summon Epsilon the Magnet Warrior, as Billiar added Mitsurugi Mirror and Mitsurugi Prayers to hand. In the following Chain, McKinney used Epsilon’s effect to send Omega Plus to the Graveyard. Billiar then activated Mitsurugi Mirror, as McKinney Chained the effect of Flux to return Murakumo to Billiar’s hand, as well as the effect of Tellusion to Special Summon both Sigma Plus and Sigma Minus. Billiar resolved Mirror, Tributing Murakumo from hand to Special Summon back Futsu no Mitama no Mitsurugi from the Graveyard. Billiar searched for Mitsurugi Great Purification, then activated Triple Tactics Thrust, adding Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to his hand.

Billiar activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, searching for Linkage and drawing another copy of Thrust. He Set two cards to his backrow, then activated Linkage, sending Thrust to the Graveyard to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace = Zero! He added Engage back to hand, then activated it again to search for another Linkage and draw Upstart Goblin. He used Upstart to draw Triple Tactics Talent, then activated Linkage, Tributing the Zero to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari and add Engage back to hand. He activated Engage for a third time, this time searching for Sky Striker Special Maneuver – Lemnisgate! from his Deck. He used Kagari to Link Summon Prototype Sky Striker Ace – Amatsu, Special Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Roze from hand, then used the two to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Azalea and destroy Ryzeal Cross. He activated Triple Tactics Talent, taking control of McKinney’s Flux Oshsenfeld, then used McKinney’s Flux and his own Azalea to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Zeke and banish Sigma Plus. Finally, Billiar Set 4 cards to his backrow. During the End Phase, S:P and Futsu returned to their respective fields.
McKinney began his turn by using Epsilon and Sigma Minus to Xyz Summon Evilswarm Exciton Knight! Billiar activated the effect of Futsu, and here, McKinney Chained the effect of S:P, banishing itself and Cross-Sheep until the end of the turn as Billiar Special Summoned back Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi. Billiar added Mitsurugi Prayers back to hand; McKinney tried to activate the effect of Exciton, but it was met by Billiar’s Mitsurugi Great Purification! McKinney Normal Summoned Ice Ryzeal and Special Summoned Node Ryzeal from the Deck, as Billiar activated Futsu’s effect to Special Summon back Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji and search for Mitsurugi Mirror. McKinney activated Node’s effect, sending Mulcharmy Fuwalos from hand to the Graveyard to Special Summon back Ext Ryzeal, as Billiar used Futsu’s effect to bring back Aramasa. McKinney used Ext and Ice to Xyz Summon Gallant Granite, and in response to the summon, Billiar activated Lemnisgate, returning 6 cards from his Graveyard back to the Deck to return Gallant and Node to McKinney’s hand. McKinney Special Summoned Node Ryzeal, then Special Summoned Magnet Warrior Omega Plus from the Graveyard by destroying Beta the Electromagnet Warrior in his hand, and used the two to Xyz Summon Gallant Granite once again. However, when he activated its effect, it was met by Billiar’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. McKinney conceded the first Duel.

Duel 2
Billiar’s opening hand contained Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji, The Winged Dragon of Ra – Sphere Mode, Mitsurugi Prayers, and two copies of Mulcharmy Fuwalos.
McKinney chose to go first once again. However, he simply Set a card to his backrow and ended his turn.
Billiar drew a third copy of Mulcharmy Fuwalos for turn! He Normal Summoned Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji and searched for Mitsurugi Ritual, then activated Prayers, Triburting Saji, but was met by McKinney’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Billiar then ended his turn.
McKinney ended his turn once again without making any plays.
Billiar drew Triple Tactics Talent for turn, and passed without making any plays.

Billiar drew Harpie’s Feather Duster for turn! He activated it, destroying McKinney’s face-down Solemn Judgment, then ended his turn.
McKinney finally was able to Normal Summon Magnet Warrior Sigma Plus! He entered the Battle Phase and attacked Billiar’s Life Points directly, then ended his turn.
Billiar drew Sky Striker Mobilize – Linkage! for turn! He Set Mitsurugi Ritual to his backrow, then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Linkage!, sending Ritual to the Graveyard to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace = Zero from his Extra Deck. He activated its effect, but it was met by McKinney’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Here, McKinney activated Triple Tactics Talent and drew Droll & Lock Bird and another copy of Sky Striker Mobilize – Linkage! He then ended his turn.
McKinney began his turn by activating Magnet Bonding, searching his Deck for Conduction Warrior Linear Magnum Plus MInus. On resolution, Billiar activated the effect of Droll & Lock Bird! McKinney then Special Summoned Magnum Plus Minus by sending Magnet Warrior Sigma Plus and Epsilon the Magnet Warrior to the Graveyard, then Special Summoned back Epsilon from the Graveyard and sent Magnet Warrior Sigma Minus to the Graveyard. He Special Summoned back Sigma Plus, then used it and Epsilon to Xyz Summon Number 55: Gogogo Goliath! Here, Billiar attempted to activate the effect of Zero, but McKinney responded with the effect of Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. Finally, McKinney added Magnet Warrior Sigma Minus back to hand, then activated its effect, Fusion Summoning Conduction Warrior Plasma Magnum and proceeding to the Battle Phase! With multiple big monsters on the board, Billiar conceded.

The Duelists had their decks shuffled and ready to go; however, before they could begin, the other two Duels had already concluded. Billiar’s teammates each won their respective matches, so Team Mike in Some Tims were the winners of the round!
