We are in the final round of Swiss for the Advanced Format Main Event here at YCS Columbus! Both Duelists are sitting at 30 points and trying to finish in at least the Top 16 for prizing. 

Sylvia Dupee, from Atlanta, Georgia, is using Radiant Typhoon with The Fallen & The Virtuous added in for extra removal! Matthew Pelletier, from New York, is using Dogmatika Despia Branded! These two Decks are designed to be able to play longer, back-and-forth games, so it could go either way. 

Both Duelists exchanged pleasantries while they shuffled up for the final round.

Duel One

Dupee won the dice roll and chose to start the match. 

Dupee’s opening hand consisted of Forbidden Crown, Pot of Extravagance, Radiant Typhoon Swen, Radiant Typhoon Krosea, and Radiant Typhoon Eldam.

Dupee started the Duel with Pot of Extravagance! She banished 6 cards and drew a Forbidden Crown and Radiant Typhoon Swen. Dupee Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Swen and activated its effect to add Radiant Typhoon Ascendance from the Deck to the hand. She then Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Eldam and activated it to add Radiant Typhoon Meghala. Dupee then Link Summoned Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Marine Eidolon, using Eldam and Swen. She activated its effect and added Mystical Space Typhoon from the Deck to her hand. Dupee Special Summoned Meghala, then activated Radiant Typhoon Ascendance to Special Summon a monster from the Graveyard, then Chained Mystical Space Typhoon and targeted Ascendance. Eldam was Special Summoned from the Graveyard, and Ascendance was destroyed. In a new Chain, Dupee activated Varuroon, Ascendance, and Radiant Typhoon Krosea from her hand! Ascendance was reset to the field, Radiant Typhoon Mandate was placed onto the field, and Krosea was Special Summoned. Dupee then activated Krosea’s effect and added both Radiant Typhoon Vision and Mystical Space Typhoon to their hand. She then activated Vision and added another Space Typhoon. Then activated Meghala’s effect and Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Vibrant Vortex from the Deck. Dupee Link Summoned Ritual Beast Ulti-Reirautari, then Set into a full back row and ended her turn!

Pelletier went into their Main Phase and Special Summoned Fallen of the White Dragon by sending The Dragon that Devours the Dogma to the Graveyard. He tried to activate its effect, but Dupee Chained Forbidden Crown! Pelletier Chained Super Polymerization and discarded Darklord Gulgolet to Fusion Summon Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon. He Special Summoned Incredible Eccelesia, the Virtuous, using White Dragon’s effect. Pelletier activated Gulgolet’s effect, and Dupee negated it with Varuroon. He then Normal Summoned Aluber the Jester of Despia and activated its effect. Dupee Chained Radiant Typhoon Ascendance, then Chained Mystical Space Typhoon. Pelletier Chained Mirrorjade and sent Albion the Branded Dragon to the Graveyard, even though it was negated by Forbidden Crown. Dupee Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Eldam with Ascendance, and Pelletier added The Fallen & The Virtuous with Aluber’s effect.

In a new Chain, Dupee activated Eldam, Meghala, and Ascendance. She reset Ascendance, Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Fonix, the Great Flame, and added Radiant Typhoon Krosea to her hand. Pelletier then Synchro Summoned Ecclesia and the Dark Dragon and activated its effect to Special Summon Guiding Quem, the Virtuous. He activated Quem and sent Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous, to the Graveyard. Moving to the Battle Phase, Pelletier attacked Eldam with Quem. He then activated The Fallen & The Virtuous and sent Titaniklad the Ash Dragon to the Graveyard to destroy Fonix. In a new Chain, Pelletier activated Guiding Quem’s effect to Special Summon Cartesia, Dupee Chained Mystical Space Typhoon and targeted her own Mandate, then Pelletier Chained Forbidden Droplet and sent Branded in High Spirits to the Graveyard. Dupee Chained Mandate’s effect to shuffle some Quick-Play Spells back into the Deck and drew Forbidden Crown. 

Dupee then activated Krosea, Fonix, and Mandate. Mandate was reset to the field, Fonix and Krosea were both Special Summoned. She activated Krosea and added Ascendance and Space Typhoon.

In the Main Phase 2, Pelletier activated Cartesia’s effect and Fusion Summoned Granguignol the Dusk Dragon and activated Granguignol’s effect to send Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon to the Graveyard. Then he went to his End Phase. In his End Phase, Pelletier activated multiple effects of monsters in his Graveyard. Blazing Cartesia, Incredible Eccelsia, and High Spirits were all added back to his hand. He added Tri-Brigade Mercourier using The Dragon that Devours the Dogma’s effect. Then, he Set The Fallen & The Virtuous using Albion the Branded Dragon. Pelletier Special Summoned Dogmatika Ecclesia, the Virtuous, using Titaniklad’s effect, he activated Ecclesia’s effect and added a copy of The Fallen & The Virtuous to his hand. Finally, he brought Ecclesia and the Dark Dragon back to the field.

Dupee drew Radiant Typhoon Vision and immediately activated it to draw two more cards. Pelletier Chained the effect of Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon, and sent Alba-Lenatus the Abyss Dragon. Dupee Chained Varuroon’s effect to try to negate Mirrorjade, and Pelletier Chained Mercourier to negate Varuroon. Then, Dupee Chained Forbidden Crown, Pelletier Chained The Fallen & The Virtuous, sending an Albion the Branded Dragon to destroy Mirrorjade. Dupee Chained Mystical Space Typhoon and targeted her Set Ascendance, Pelletier Chained Rindbrumm and targeted Fallen of the White Dragon, Dupee Chained her previously targeted Ascendance and Special Summoned Krosea from the Graveyard.

Fallen of White Dragon was negated by Crown, Dupee drew two Mulcharmy Fuwalos off the Vision and discarded an Ascendance. After a series of plays, Dupee Link Summoned Hraesvelgr, the Desperate Doom Eagle! She then Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Swen and used its effect to add Radiant Typhoon Chant. Pelletier activated Ecclesia’s effect, but Dupee Chained Mystical Space Typhoon and targeted her own Ascendance, she then Chained Mandate and negated the Ecclesia before resetting Ascendance.

Moving into the Battle Phase, Dupee sent Hraesvelgr into Granguignol and destroyed it, which triggered Pelletier’s Aluber effect in the Graveyard. She sent Krosea to destroy Ecclesia and Swen over Aluber. In the Main Phase 2, Dupee activated Chant to add back Mystical Space Typhoon, and then Set 3 and went to her End Phase.

In the End Phase, Pelletier activated both Albion and Alba-Lenatus to get Branded Retribution onto the field, and Branded Fusion to the hand.

Pelletier started his turn and Normal Summoned Aluber. He activated its effect and added Branded Opening from his Deck to his hand. He then Special Summoned Cartesia and tried to use her effect. Dupee Chained the effect of Varuroon to negate it. Pelletier followed that up with Branded Fusion! He Fusion Summoned Lubellion the Searing Dragon and activated its effect by discarding Branded Opening. Dupee flipped over Forbidden Crown to negate Lubellion. 

Moving into the Battle Phase, Pelletier tried to attack over Hraesvelgr with Ecclesia, but Dupee Chained the effect of Radiant Typhoon Mandate and boosted Hraesvelgr’s ATK and drew The Fallen & The Virtuous! Dupee activated Hraesvelgr’s effect and shuffled Ecclesia and the Dark Dragon from the Graveyard back into the Deck. In the End Phase, Dupee activated Mystical Space Typhoon and destroyed Branded Retribution, then negated Cartesia’s effect with Mandate.

Dupee continued with a flurry of plays in Pelletier’s End Phase, and into her own turn. Thanks to an onslaught of Quick-Play Spells and monsters like Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Marine Eidolon, and Greatfly, she was able to win the first Duel!

Duel Two

In an effort to save time (and go first in the next Duel), Dupee immediately conceded the second Duel! Weirdly, we are going to a third Duel!

Duel Three

Dupee opted to go first in the third and final Duel. 

Dupee started the final Duel with Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, The Fallen & The Virtuous, Radiant Typhoon Swen, Radiant Typhoon Eldam, and Forbidden Crown.

Dupee started by Special Summoning Eldam and used its effect to add Radiant Typhoon Krosea from the Deck to her hand. She Special Summoned Swen and used its effect to add Radiant Typhoon Chant. Then, Dupee Link Summoned Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Marine Eidolon with Eldam and Swen and used its effect to add Mystical Space Typhoon. She activated Radiant Typhoon Chant and added Radiant Typhoon Meghala, then used Varuroon’s effect to place Radiant Typhoon Mandate onto the field. Dupee Special Summoned Meghala. Then, she activated Mystical Space Typhoon and targeted her own Mandate and destroyed it. In a new Chain, Dupee activated Meghala, Mandate, and Krosea (from her hand). She Special Summoned Krosea, reset Mandate, and Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Vibrant Vortex from the Deck. She then added Ascendance and Mystical Space Typhoon with Krosea’s effect. Dupee Link Summoned Hraesvelgr, the Desperate Doom Eagle, using Varuroon and Krosea, then Set 4 cards and ended her turn.

At the start of Pelletier’s turn, Dupee flipped Mandate. Pelletier Chained Branded in High Spirits. He sent Tri-Brigade Springans Kitt and The Dragon that Devours the Dogma to the Graveyard to add Fallen of the White Dragon. Pelletier Special Summoned White Dragon by sending Titaniklad the Ash Dragon to the Graveyard, Dupee Chained Hraesvelgr’s effect and shuffled The Dragon that Devours the Dogma back into the Deck. Pelletier tried to use White Dragon’s effect, but Dupee Chained Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! Pelletier then Special Summoned Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous, and activated its effect. Dupee Chained Forbidden Crown. Pelletier let it resolve and then activated Super Polymerization and discarded Solemn Accusation to Fusion Summon Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon.

Moving into the Battle Phase, Pelletier attacked Meghala with Mirrorjade. Dupee Chained Ascendance and Special Summoned Krosea, then activated Krosea and Meghala. She Special Summoned Eldam, added Ascendance and Mystical Space Typhoon to her hand. Then, Dupee activated Eldam and added Fonix to her hand. Pelletier redeclared the attack and sent Mirrorjade into Krosea, forgetting that it couldn’t be destroyed by battle.

Pelletier activated Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon’s effect and sent The Dragon that Devours the Dogma to the Graveyard, Dupee Chained Space Typhoon and targeted Mandate, then Chained Mandate and negated Mirrorjade. Pelletier Chained The Fallen & The Virtuous and sent Albion to target Mandate, Dupee Chained Mandate to draw a card. 

In the End Phase, Pelletier activated Titaniklad’s effect and Special Summoned Guiding Quem, the Virtuous. He activated Quem’s effect and sent Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous to the Graveyard. Pelletier activated The Dragon that Devours the Dogma and added Tri-Brigade Mercourier to his hand, then Set The Fallen & The Virtuous using Albion’s effect. He added Incredible Ecclesia back to his hand. Then Dupee activated her own The Fallen & The Virtuous and destroyed Guiding Quem by sending Albion to the Graveyard, then added another copy of The Fallen & The Virtuous to her hand with Albion’s effect.

As Dupee started the Radiant Typhoon combos on her turn, knowing the clock was about to run out, Pelletier conceded the match!
