We are in Round 7 here at TEAM YCS Las Vegas, and both teams here are trying to lock in their spots in Day 2 this weekend. Team Despicable 3 needs just one more win to lock in their spot in Day 2, while Team Free John needs to win the last two rounds to make Day 2.

Team Despicable 3 consists of Logan Johnson, Logan Shepard, and Tristan Bridges. Johnson and Bridges are both from Washington, while Shepard is from Massachusetts. 

Team Free John has Ryhan Jabri, Walid Ben Abbes, and Jamal Afizi. The three of them all flew in from Paris, France, for this event. 

Duel One

Afizi won the dice roll and chose to go first. 

Afizi started the Duel by Special Summoning Radiant Typhoon Swen. He activated Swen’s effect and added Radiant Typhoon Chant. Afizi then activated Chant and added Radiant Typhoon Eldam. He activated Radiant Typhoon Krosea and Special Summoned it, then tried to use its effect on the field, but was stopped by Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. Afizi then Special Summoned Eldam and activated its effect, and added Radiant Typhoon Meghala. 

Afizi looked over his hand for a moment and then used Swen and Krosea to Link Summon Radiant Typhoon Varuroon, the Marine Eidolon. He activated its effect and added Mystical Space Typhoon from his Deck to his hand. Afizi then Special Summoned Meghala from his hand, Set 3 cards, and ended his turn.

Bridges started with Rahu Dracotail, Dracotail Lukias, Bystial Magnamhut, and Dracotail Faimena. He drew Dracotail Urgula for his turn. In the Standby Phase, Afizi flipped The Fallen & The Virtuous and targeted his own Eldam. He sent Albion the Shrouded Dragon to the Graveyard. Afizi then activated his Varuroon effect and activated Radiant Typhoon Mandate from his Deck. 

Bridges Normal Summoned and activated Dracotail Lukias, he added Dracotail Pan to his hand. Bridges then activated Dracotail Faimena! He used Pan and Urgula from his hand to Fusion Summon Dracotail Gulamel. Bridges activated Urgula and Pan, then Gulamel as Chain Link 3, targeting Afizi’s face-down Mystical Space Typhoon! Afizi Chained it and targeted his Mandate, then Chained Mandate to negate the effect of Gulamel. With his Fusion Materials, Bridges got Rahu and Ketu Dracotail and destroyed Meghala and another Set Mystical Space Typhoon. 

On the resolution, Afizi activated Mandate’s effect and reset it to the field. Bridges used Urgula’s effect and added back his Faimena. Bridges flipped Ketu Dracotail and added Dracotail Mululu, then Fusion Summoned Secretarion Dragon with it and Faimena. He used Faimena and Mululu’s effects to Set Dracotail Horn and Dracotail Flame, then negated Varuroon.

Bridges activated Secretarion, Afizi Chained Shiina, Twin Tempests of Celestial Thunder! Bridges chose to Special Summon back his Faimena and put Pan on the bottom of his Deck. Bridges flipped Rahu Dracotail and used the Lukias from his hand and Dracotail Pan from his Deck to Fusion Summon Dracotail Gulamel. He activated Lukias and grabbed Dracotail Sting.

Bridges moved to his End Phase, Afizi activated Albion’s effect, and Set a copy of The Fallen & The Virtuous from his Deck. Then, he drew to start his turn.

During the Draw Phase, Afizi activated Radiant Typhoon Mandate and used the effect to draw a card by shuffling back Mystical Space Typhoon, The Fallen & The Virtuous, and Radiant Typhoon Chant. Bridges Chained his Dracotail Sting and targeted the Krosea and the OTHER Mystical Space Typhoon in Afizi’s Graveyard. Afizi Chained The Fallen & The Virtuous, and sent his Ecclesia and the Dark Dragon to destroy Faimena. Bridges Chained Horn to bounce his Faimena, Gulamel Chained and destroyed Mandate, and Afizi conceded!

Bridges wins the first Duel without even declaring an attack!

Duel Two

Afizi chose to go first and activated Dimension Shifter in the Draw Phase. He moved to his Main Phase and Special Summoned Radiant Typhoon Meghala. Afizi activated Radiant Typhoon Vision and drew 2 cards, then discarded Forbidden Droplet. He activated Meghala’s effect and was stopped by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. 

Afizi activated Radiant Typhoon Chant and added Radiant Typhoon Eldam, then Special Summoned it and activated its effect. He added Radiant Typhoon Krosea to his hand and Tribute Summoned it using the Eldam. Afizi activated Krosea’s effect and added Mystical Space Typhoon and Radiant Typhoon Swen to his hand. He then Special Summoned Swen and used its effect to add another copy of Chant. 

Afizi Xyz Summoned Totem Bird! Then Set 2 cards and passed.

Bridges started with Droll & Lock Bird, Fallen of the White Dragon, The Fallen & The Virtuous, and Dracotail Faimena. He Drew Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous. In the Main Phase, Bridges Normal Summoned Fallen of the White Dragon and activated its effect to Special Summon Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous. Afizi activated Super Polymerization! He discarded Ash Blossom to Fusion Summon Secretarion Dragon with Bridges’ monsters.

Without any other ways to make plays, Bridges conceded the second Duel! We’re going to game 3!

Duel Three

Bridges chose to start, and his hand consisted of 2 copies of Dracotail Faimena, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous, and Kashtira Fenrir. 

Bridges Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir and activated its effect to add another copy of Fenrir. He then Normal Summoned Incredible Ecclesia and used its effect to Special Summon Fallen of the White Dragon. Bridges used its effect and brought back the Incredible Eccelsia, then Synchro Summoned Ecclesia and the Dark Dragon. He banished his Ecclesia and Special Summoned Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous, from his Deck. Bridges then activated Cartesia and Fusion Summoned Dracotail Arthalion with Fenrir and Faimena from his hand.

Bridges activated Arthalion and Faimena. He Set Rahu Dracotail with Faimena, and then added back the Faimena with Arthalion. Bridges flipped the Rahu and Fusion Summoned Dracotail Gulamel with Faimena and Urgula. He used Urgula’s effect and Set Dracotail Flame. Then activated Urgula’s other effect and added back his Faimena.

Bridges moved to his End Phase, brought back his Ecclesia and the Dark Dragon, and ended his turn.

Afizi activated Radiant Typhoon Vision in his Draw Phase to draw 2 cards, Bridges Chained Flame, and negated Afizi’s Vision. He put Rahu at the bottom of his Deck and drew Urgula. 

Moving to the Main Phase, Afizi activated Illusion Gate! Bridges Chained Cartesia’s effect, and then Chained his Eccelsia’s effect to Special Summon back his Fallen of the White Dragon. Cartesia and Fallen were used to Fusion Summon Albion the Branded Dragon. Afizi wiped the field and then Special Summoned back Bridges’ Kashtira Fenrir. 

Afizi activated Radiant Typhoon Chant, and Bridges used his Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Afizi went into the Battle Phase and attacked directly with Fenrir! Afizi looked over his hand and realized that he didn’t have any real follow-up without the Chant, and revealed his hand in concession!

Team Despicable 3 just locked in and secured their spot in Day 2 of TEAM YCS Las Vegas.
