NAWCQ Round 3 Feature Match: Dalvin Uppal vs. Jeremy Glassman

Jeremy Glassman from Seattle, Washington made it into the Top 4 of yesterday’s World Qualifying Points Playoff, but lost in the critical Match where a victory would’ve qualified him for the 2025 Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship. Now, he’s back in the field of over 2800 players, taking his second chance to earn that invitation to the World Championship in this weekend’s North America World Championship Qualifier. He’s using a Mitsurugi Ryzeal Deck this weekend, just as he used in yesterday’s World Qualifying Points Playoff. Now, he’s paired up against Dalvin Uppal from Yuba, California. Uppal is using a Sky Striker Deck, which is boosted by the new Sky Striker Support from Duelist’s Advance. Both Duelists are 2-0 in the tournament and are looking to keep their perfect records in tact. It’s time to Duel!

 

Duel One

Glassman started off Duel 1 by activating the effect of Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi.

 

 

He Special Summoned Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji and Tributed it, then used Saji’s effect to add Mitsurugi Ritual from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Pre-Preparation of Rites to add Mitsurugi Mirror and Futso no Mitama no Mitsurugi from his Deck to his hand. He activated Mitsurugi Ritual to Special Summon Futso no Mitama no Mitsurugi from his hand by Tributing Night Sword Serpent and Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi from his Deck. He used Kusanagi’s effect to return Mitsurugi Ritual to his hand and then activated it to Special Summon Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi from his Deck by Tributing Futso from his field. He Special Summoned Futso back to his field and added Mitsurugi Prayers from his Deck to his hand. He activated Prayers by Tributing the Habakiri in his hand. He added another Habakiri from his Deck to his hand and Special Summoned Kusanagi while taking 800 points of damage. He added Prayers from his Deck to his hand with the effect of the Tributed Habakiri. Next, he combined Serpent with Kusanagi to Xyz Summon Ryzeal Duo Drive and activated its effect; but Uppal Chained Infinite Impermanence from his hand. Glassman Chained his Murakumo’s effect and Uppal discarded Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor from his hand to resolve his Impermanence. Next, Glassman activated Mitsurugi Mirror to Tribute Murakumo and Special Summon Habakiri. He Special Summoned Murakumo back from his Graveyard with its effect and added Mitsurugi Great Purification from his Deck to his hand with Murakumo’s effect since it was Tributed. Next, Glassman sent Duo Drive and Habakiri to the Graveyard to Link Summon I:P Masquerena and Set 2 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Uppal drew Droll & Lock Bird and added it to his hand of Called by the Grave, Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, Sky Striker Mecha – Widow Anchor, and Triple Tactics Talent. He activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! and Glassman used his Murakumo’s effect. Uppal discarded Droll & Lock Bird from his hand to resolve the Engage’s effect. He added a Widow Anchor from his Deck to his hand. Next, Uppal activated Triple Tactics Thrust, but Glassman Chained Purification and Tributed Murakumo to negate it. Overwhelmed by Glassman’s field, Uppal conceded.

Duel Two

Uppal opened up Duel 2 with Droll & Lock Bird, Triple Tactics Talent, Droll & Lock Bird, Sky Striker Mobilize – Linkage!, and Solemn Judgment.

 

 

In his Standby Phase, Glassman activated the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos in his hand. Uppal Set Widow Anchor face-down and then activated Linkage. He sent the Widow Anchor to the Graveyard and Special Summoned Sky Striker Ace = Zero from his Extra Deck. He activated its effect, but lost out to Glassman’s Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring. Next, Uppal activated Triple Tactics Talent to draw Solemn Judgment and Called by the Grave from his Deck. He Set both copies of Solemn Judgment and the Called by the Grave before ending his turn.

 

Glassman drew a card and then activated Mitsurugi Prayers in the Draw Phase by Tributing Habakiri. Uppal Chained Called by the Grave to banish Habakiri and Uppal added Saji from his Deck to his hand and Special Summoned it while taking 800 points of damage. He used Saji’s effect to add Mitsurugi Ritual from his Deck to his hand and then activated Bonfire in his Main Phase. He added Ext Ryzeal from his Deck to his hand, prompting Uppal to activate the effect of Droll & Lock Bird. Next, Glassman activated Mitsurugi Ritual to try to Special Summon from his Deck, and Uppal negated its activation by giving up half of his Life Points with Solemn Judgment. Glassman Special Summoned Ext from his hand next, by sending Mereologic Aggregator from his Extra Deck to his Graveyard. He activated Aggregator’s effect targeting Zero, and Uppal Chained Zero’s effect to Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Raye and Sky Striker Ace – Roze from his Deck and destroy Ext Ryzeal. Next, Glassman Normal Summoned Night Sword Serpent. Glassman combined his Serpent with Saji to Xyz Summon Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer, but its Summon was negated by Solemn Judgment. Finally, Glassman activated the last card in his hand – Triple Tactics Thrust – to set Pre-Preparation of Rites from his Deck to his field before ending his turn. Uppal used Raye’s effect in the End Phase to Tribute it and Special Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari from his Extra Deck, then used Kagari’s effect to add Linkage from his Graveyard to his hand.

 

Uppal drew Engage next turn and then sent his 2 monsters to the Graveyard to Link Summon Zero. He activated Zero’s effect, and Glassman conceded.

Duel Three

Glassman started off Duel 3 by activating Mitsurugi Prayers in his Draw Phase. He added Habakiri from his Deck to his hand and then activated its effect by revealing it in Main Phase 1. He Special Summoned Saji from his Deck and then Tributed it. He activated Saji’s effect to add Mitsurugi Great Purification from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Mitsurugi Ritual and Tributed Kusanagi and Night Sword Serpent from his Deck to Special Summon Habakiri from his hand. He activated the effects of Kusanagi and Serpent to Special Summon the Serpent and add Mitsurugi Ritual from his Graveyard to his hand. Next, he activated Ritual again, this time to Special Summon Murakumo from his Deck by Tributing Habakiri on his field. He Special Summoned Habakiri back to the field and added Prayers from his Deck to his hand. He sent Habakiri and Serpent to the Graveyard to Link Summon I:P Masquerena and then Set 4 cards to his back row before ending his turn.

 

Uppal drew Mulcharmy Fuwalos and added it to his hand of Infinite Impermanence, Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones, Sky Striker Mecha – Eagle Booster, Solemn Judgment, and Triple Tactics Talent. He activated the effect of Fuwalos in the Draw Phase and then activated Infinite Impermanence in the Main Phase to negate Murakumo’s effect. Next, he activated Hornet Drones, but lost out to Dominus Impulse. He entered his Battle Phase, then proceeded to Main Phase 2. He Set Solemn Judgment, and when he tried to enter his End Phase, Glassman kept him in Main Phase 2 by activating the effect of Masquerena. He Chained Prayers by Tributing Murakumo and added Futso to his hand and Special Summon Habakiri. He took 800 points of damage. He Link Summoned Dyna Mondo by sending Masquerena and Habakiri to the Graveyard and then used Dyna Mondo’s effect to return Habakiri from his Graveyard and the face-down Solemn Judgment on Uppal’s field back to the Deck. Uppal drew a Sky Striker Ace – Raye thanks to his Fuwalos’s effect. He Normal Summoned it and then sent it to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. He activated its effect to return Hornet Drones from his Graveyard to his hand. He activated the Hornet Drones to Special Summon a Sky Striker Ace Token and then sent Kagari and the Token to the Graveyard to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace = Zero. He activated its effect, and when Glassman tried to negate it with Great Purification by Tributing Murakumo, Uppal Chained Eagle Booster to protect Zero. Uppal added Engage from his Deck to his hand, prompting Glassman to activate the effect of Droll & Lock Bird! Glassman activated his Dyna Mondo’s effect to Tribute it and Special Summon Murakumo back from his Graveyard. At that point, Uppal conceded, unable to add additional cards from his Deck to his hand with Engage or Tactics due to the effect of Droll & Lock Bird.
