Round 4 Feature Match: Brian Campbell vs. Conrado Enrique Medina Cantor
It’s Round 4, and we’ve got more Feature Match goodness! Brian Campbell is here from Mesa, AZ, playing a Primite Tombkeeper Deck! He’s facing Conrado Medina Cantor, from Santa Maria, CA, using Dracotails! These strategies have had a ton of success lately, so this ought to be a great Match!
Duel 1
Campbell won the dice roll and began with a hand of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Treasures of the Kings, Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, Primite Lordly Lode, and Called by the Grave. He played Treasures of the Kings, using its effect to Set Apophis the Serpent. He played Lordly Lode next, adding Primite Drillbeam to his hand. He Normal Summoned Ether Beryl, and Medina hit it with Effect Veiler. Campbell Set Called by the Grave, then used Treasures to add The Man with the Mark to his hand. He activated Lordly Lode’s effect, naming Dragon Core Hexer, and Medina responded with Mulcharmy Fuwalos. Campbell Special Summoned his monster, and Medina drew a card. Campbell Set Drillbeam to finish the turn. Before the turn ended, Medina used the effect of Dracotail Faimena, fusing Dracotail Mululu with Blazing Cartesia, the Virtuous into Dracotail Gulamel. He activated Mululu’s effect, then Chained Gulamel’s effect to destroy the Set Drillbeam. Mululu’s effect Set Ketu Dracotail on the field.
In the Draw Phase, Campbell flipped Apophis the Serpent – he Special Summoned it, then Set Apophis the Swamp Deity, which could be activated this same turn. Medina Normal Summoned Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, then used it and Gulamel to Link Summon S:P Little Knight. Its effect targeted Apophis the Swamp Deity, and Campbell Chained it to Special Summon it and negate S:P Little Knight. Medina flipped up Ketu, and Campbell used his Ash Blossom’s effect to negate it. Medina was out of follow-ups and conceded!
Duel 2
Campbell’s second opening hand was Harpie’s Feather Duster, Raigeki, Dominus Purge, Dimension Shifter, and Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion. Plenty of interaction, but nothing to advance his own gameplan.
Medina started this time with Dracotail Lukias, using its effect, and Campbell responded with Dimension Shifter. Medina responded to that with Faimena! He fused Lukias with a Mululu from his hand into Dracotail Arthalion. Shifter’s effect resolved, and Lukias’s effect put Dracotail Urgula in Medina’s hand. He used Arthalion to return Faimena to his hand, then used Mululu’s and Lukias’s effects to Set Dracotail Horn and Dracotail Flame. He played Ketu Dracotail, and Campbell negated it with Dominus Purge.
Campbell drew Ash Blossom. He played Raigeki, destroying and banishing Arthalion. He played Feather Duster next. Medina responded with Flame, but Campbell negated that with Ghost Belle, banishing everything in the process.
Medina Normal Summoned another Lukias, adding Dracotail Pan to his hand. He used Faimena’s effect, fusing Pan and Urgula into Arthalion. Arthalion returned Pan and Faimena to the hand, and his Fusion Materials’ effects put Dracotail Sting and Ketu Dracotail on the field. He used Urgula’s effect to return Lukias to his hand, putting Urgula back in the Deck. Then he flipped Ketu to get Urgula into his hand. He played Rahu Dracotail, fusing Lukias from the hand and Pan from the Deck into Gulamel. Lukias’s effect Set another Ketu. He sent all his monsters to attack and drop Campbell to 400 Life Points!
Campbell had only Ash Blossom, and drew… Labradorite Dragon. With nothing to defend from Medina’s assault, he conceded this Duel.
Duel 3
Campbell started the final Duel with a hand of Primite Dragon Ether Beryl, Called by the Grave, Lordly Lode, Dominus Purge, and Ghost Belle. He Normal Summoned Ether Beryl, using its effect to Set Lordly Lode. He flipped it up, adding Drillbeam to his hand. He then used Lordly Lode to Special Summon Dragon Core Hexer. He used his monsters to Synchro Summon Geomathmech Final Sigma! He Set his Quick-Play Spells to finish.

Medina Special Summoned Kashtira Fenrir, then Normal Summoned Mululu. He used Fenrir’s effect to put another Fenrir in his hand. Then he used Mululu’s effect, and Campbell flipped Drillbeam to negate and banish it. Medina played Ketu, and Campbell used Dominus Purge. Medina passed with no other plays.
Campbell drew Apophis the Serpent, and returned Ether Beryl to his hand. He sent Final Sigma to attack and destroy Fenrir, dealing double damage. He Normal Summoned Ether Beryl, using it to Set a new Drillbeam. He Set Apophis, then used Lordly Lode to Special Summon Dragon Core Hexer once again, and passed the turn.
In the Draw Phase, Campbell flipped Apophis the Serpent, Special Summoning it and getting Apophis the Swamp Deity on the field. Medina Special Summoned Fenrir, using its effect to get a third Fenrir in his hand. Then he Special Summoned Dinowrestler Pankratops. He began changing phases, and Campbell flipped Apophis the Swamp Deity to negate Fenrir. Campbell used Pankratops’s effect, targeting the Set Drillbeam to destroy it. Then he Normal Summoned Blazing Cartesia, fusing Effect Veiler and Lukias from his hand into Dracotail Arthalion. Arthalion returned Pankratops and Fenrir to the hand, and Campbell flipped Called by the Grave to negate and banish Lukias. Medina sent Fenrir to destroy Apophis the Swamp Deity, then crashed Arthalion into Final Sigma to destroy both monsters.

Campbell drew Dimensional Barrier. He used Drillbeam’s effect to Set it on the field. He played Lordly Lode, putting a new Ether Beryl in his hand. He tuned Hexer to the on-field Beryl for Snake-Eyes Vengeance Dragon! Medina tried to Special Summon Arthalion from his Graveyard, but Campbell negated it with Ghost Belle. Medina used Fenrir’s effect on Vegeance, and Vegeance put Blazing Cartesia in the back row before it was banished. Campbell used Lordly Lode to Special Summon Labradorite Dragon, tuning it to Ether Beryl for Swordsoul Supreme Sovereign – Chengying! It attacked over Fenrir. Campbell Set Dimensional Barrier to finish the turn.
Medina Special Summoned Pankratops, using its effect to destroy Drillbeam. Campbell flipped it in response to banish the Cartesia. Medina Special Summoned Fenrir from his hand, then played Ketu. Campbell flipped Dimensional Barrier to prevent a Fusion Summon! Ketu put Lukias in Medina’s hand, and he Normal Summoned it to add Faimena to his hand. Fenrir attacked, banishing Chengying with its effect, then destroying Apophis the Serpent in battle. Lukias attacked directly.
Campbell drew his own Fenrir, and returned Ether Beryl to his hand. He Special Summoned Fenrir, and tried moving to the Battle Phase. Before the Main Phase ended, Medina used Faimena to fuse Lukias with a Fenrir in the hand into Arthalion. Campbell’s Fenrir banished the new Arthalion, but Medina was able to Special Summon an Arthalion from the Graveyard. The Fusion Summoned Arthalion’s effect still resolved, putting Lukias in Medina’s hand, and Lukias’s effect Set Rahu. Finally, Medina’s own Fenrir banished Campbell’s Fenrir.
Campbell Normal Summoned Ether Beryl to Set Lordly Lode, flipping it to add another Ether Beryl to his hand. He Set Drillbeam from his Graveyard. He used Lode’s effect to Special Summon Dragon Core Hexer, then Synchro Summoned Superheavy Samurai Brave Masuwaro! He sent it to attack, using its 4000 DEF to crush Fenrir. The round timer was running dangerously low in this back-and-forth Duel.
Medina Normal Summoned Lukias, and Campbell negated and banished it with Drillbeam. Medina flipped Rahu, fusing Pan from his hand with Urgula from the Deck, into Arthalion. Musawaro let Campbell draw Ash Blossom and an Apophis. Medina Set Ketu with Urgula, and Pan Set Flame and destroyed Musawaro. Arthalion returned Faimena to the hand. He Special Summoned a second Arthalion from the Graveyard. He attacked directly, dropping Campbell to just 200 Life Points!
Campbell drew The Man with the Mark. He returned Ether Beryl to the hand. He Normal Summoned Beryl, then Set Drillbeam from his Graveyard. He tried using Lordly Lode, but Flame negated it. With one Lordly Lode negated, Beryl wasn’t big enough to attack over Medina’s monsters.
Medina started his turn, only needing to deal 200 damage. However, with three copies of Lordly Lode on the field, Ether Beryl was up to 3400 ATK! Medina scrambled to try and make a play with his limited resources, but could not close out those last Life Points before the round ended.
It was a hard-fought battle, but neither Duelist was able to claim victory in this Match. They shook hands, heading into the next round with 3-1 records.
