We’re almost at the end of Swiss here at YCS Anaheim! The Duelists competing here on Day 2 are hoping to make it into the Top 8, earning the chance to be declared the winner of YCS Anaheim! In this round’s Feature Match, we have two Duelists from Toronto, Ontario, Canada: Luka Kovac, playing the Dracotail Deck, and Alex David Mosquera Morales, playing the Yummy Deck. Each of these Duelists has a 10-2 record, so in order to make it into the Top 8, they will need to win their remaining rounds. Either way, both of these Duelists have the chance to earn Top 16 and Top 32 prizing, but only one can be declared the winner. It’s time to Duel!

Duel 1

Morales won the die roll and chose to go first! Kovac opened with D.D. Crow, Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Dracotail Horn, and Dracotail Flame. 

Morales started by activating Piri Reis Map, but Kovac Chained the effect of Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring! Next, Morales Normal Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy, searching for Yummy☆Surprise, then used Cupsy to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy and place Yummyusment☆Mignon to the Field Spell Zone. He activated Mignon’s effect, attempting to Special Summon Cupsy☆Yummy; Kovac activated the effect of D.D. Crow as Chain Link 2, Morales responded with Yummy☆Surprise as Chain Link 3, Kovac activated Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion as Chain Link 4, but Morales finally activated Called by the Grave as Chain Link 5! In the end, Morales was able to Special Summon back the Cupsy. 

From there, Morales used Cupsy and Snatchy to Synchro Summon Cupsy☆Yummy Way. He activated Cupsy☆Yummy Way’s effect to search for Marshmao☆Yummy and Lollipo☆Yummy, then discard Mulcharmy Fuwalos. He Special Summoned the Marshmao and added Surprise back to hand, then used Cupsy☆Yummy Way to Link Summon another Yummy☆Snatchy! He used Snatchy and Marshmao to Synchro Summon Lollipo☆Yummy Way, and activated its effect to bring back Cupsy☆Yummy and Marshmao☆Yummy. He used Lollipo☆Yummy Way and Marshmao to Synchro Summon Martial Metal Marcher, activated Marcher’s effect to Special Summon back the Lollipo☆Yummy Way, then used Marcher and Marshmao to Synchro Summon Herald of the Arc Light! Finally, he used the Lollipo☆Yummy Way to Link Summon Snatchy, Special Summoned Lollipo☆Yummy from hand, Set a card to his backrow, and ended his turn. 

Kovac drew Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring for turn! He chose to concede the first Duel. 

Duel 2

Kovac chose to go first in the second Duel, and he opened with Dracotail Lukias, Dracotail Pan, Ketu Dracotail, and two copies of Nibiru, the Primal Being. He started off by activating Ketu Dracotail, searching for Dracotail Faimena. He then Normal Summoned Dracotail Lukias and searched for Dracotail Urgula. He activated the effect of Dracotail Faimena, discarding it, and Morales Chained the effect of Mulcharmy Fuwalos! Kovac used Pan, Urgula, and Lukias to Fusion Summon Dracotail Arthalion, adding Faimena and Pan to hand, while also Setting Dracotail Flame, Dracotail Horn, and Dracotail Sting from the Deck to his backrow. Finally, he activated Urgula’s effect, returning it to the bottom of the Deck to add Lukias back to hand, then ended his turn. 

Morales started by activating Pot of Prosperity, banishing 6 cards from his Extra Deck and adding Triple Tactics Thrust to hand. He then activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, adding Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to hand, activated Hornet Drones, and used the Sky Striker Ace Token to Link Summon Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. However, when he activated Kagari’s effect, Kovac Chained Dracotail Sting, banishing Morales’ Hornet Drones and Fuwalos from the Graveyard. To follow up, Morales Special Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy, searching for Yummyusment☆Acroquey, activated Acroquey, then used Cupsy and Kagari to Synchro Summon Cupsy☆Yummy Way! Morales searched for Marshmao☆Yummy and Lollipo☆Yummy then discarded Marshmao☆Yummy and used Horn to return Arthalion to the Extra Deck and draw a card as Morales attempted to destroy Horn with Acroquey. 

Morales used Cupsy to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy and place Yummyusment☆Mignon to the Field Spell Zone, then activated Mignon’s effect to Special Summon Cupsy☆Yummy from the Graveyard. He used Snatchy and Cupsy to Synchro Summon Lollipo☆Yummy Way and Special Summon back Marshmao and Snatchy from the Graveyard! He proceeded to the Battle Phase and activated Yummy☆Surprise, Special Summoning Cupsy☆Yummy from the Graveyard, attacking Kovac’s Life Points directly with all of his monsters, but the damage was halved thanks to the effect of Pot of Prosperity! In Main Phase 2, Morales used Cupsy and Snatchy to Link Summon Ukanomitsune-no-Onari and Set Yummy☆Surprise back to the field. He Special Summoned Lollipo☆Yummy, but in response, Kovac activated the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being, Tributing all monsters on the field and leaving Morales with a Primal Being Token. 

However, this allowed Morales to activate Triple Tactics Thrust and add Triple Tactics Talent to his hand! He activated Talents, choosing to look at Kovac’s hand, but Kovac Chained the effect of Dracotail Faimena, using all of the monsters in his hand as Fusion Material to Fusion Summon Dracotail Arthalion. Morales resolved Talents to return Kovac’s Pot of Prosperity to the Deck, as Kovac added Dracotail Lukias, Dracotail Faimena, Dracotail Pan, and Light End Sublimation Dragon back to hand, then used the effects of Dracotail Lukias and Dracotail Pan to Set Dracotail Sting and Rahu Dracotail from the Deck, as well as destroy the Primal Being Token. 

At this point, Morales was unable to establish a board, and he knew that Kovac would be able to flood the field with Dracotail monsters the following turn, so he conceded. 

Duel 3

Kovac opened the third Duel with Dracotail Mululu, Dracotail Faimena, Dracotail Lukias, Dinowrestler Pankratops, and Nibiru, the Primal Being. 

Morales chose to go first in game 3! He started with Piri Reis Map, searching for Cupsy☆Yummy, but losing 4000 Life Points in the process. He then Normal Summoned Cupsy, searching for Yummy☆Surprise, and used Cupsy to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy and place Yummyusment☆Mignon to the Field Spell Zone. He activated Mignon’s effect, Special Summoning back Cupsy, then used Cupsy and Snatchy to Synchro Summon Cupsy☆Yummy Way, searching for Marshmao☆Yummy and Lollipo☆Yummy then discarding the Lollipo. He activated Marshmao’s effect, Special Summoning it, then used Marshmao and Cupsy☆Yummy Way to Synchro Summon Martial Metal Marcher to bring back Cupsy☆Yummy Way! He Special Summoned Cooky☆Yummy from hand, but in response to the summon, Kovac activated the effect of Nibiru, the Primal Being! All of Morales’ monsters were Tributed and replaced with a Primal Bing Token. 

However, Morales immediately followed it up with Triple Tactics Talent! He aimed to look at Kovac’s hand. However, Kovac Chained the effect of Dracotail Faimena, discarding it to use all of the other cards in his hand as Fusion Material to Fusion Summon Dracotail Arthalion! Talents resolved without effect, and Kovac used Arthalion’s effect to add Dracotail Faimena, Dracotail Mululu, and Dinowrestler Pankratops to hand, as well as Set Ketu Dracotail and Dracotail Horn from the Deck. Morales then used the Primal Being Token to Link Summon Link Spider, then activated Surprise to Special Summon Marshmao☆Yummy and add Surprise back to hand. He used the Spider and Marshmao to Synchro Summon Lollipo☆Yummy Way and Special Summon back Lollipo☆Yummy and Marshmao☆Yummy, used Marshmao and Lollipo to Xyz Summon Kikinagashi Fucho, Set 3 cards to his backrow, and ended his turn. 

Kovac drew another Pankratops for turn! During the Draw Phase, Morales activated Trap Trick, Setting Harpie’s Feather Storm from his Deck, then activating it immediately! Kovac used Arthalion and Nibiru to Link Summon S:P Little Knight, Special Summoned Dinowrestler Pankratops from hand, and used Pankratops to attack Lollipo☆Yummy Way. In Main Phase 2, Kovac Normal Summoned Dracotail Mululu and proceeded to the End Phase. During the End Phase, Morales activated Yummy☆Surprise, Special Summoning back Marshmao☆Yummy and adding the Surprise back to hand. 

Morales started his turn off by using Marshmao to Link Summon Yummy☆Snatchy! In response to the summon, Kovac activated Dracotail Horn, returning Snatchy to the Extra Deck, putting Lukias to the bottom of the Deck, and drawing Bystial Magnamhut! Next, Morales activated Yummy☆Surprise, Special Summoning Cupsy☆Yummy from the Graveyard and searching for Lollipo☆Yummy. He used Cupsy to Link Summon another Yummy☆Snatchy, then activated Mignon’s effect, targeting Marshmao, but Kovac Chained the effect of Bystial Magnamhut, banishing the Marshmao and Special Summoning Magnamhut! Morales activated Acroquey, then Special Summoned Lollipo☆Yummy from his hand. Here, Kovac activated the effect of Dracotail Mululu as Chain Link 1; Morales Chained Snatchy’s effect as Chain Link 2; and Kovac activated S:P’s effect as Chain Link 3 to banish it and Snatchy! Morales was unable to resolve Snatchy’s effect with the Snatchy banished, and Kovac resolved Mululu’s effect, using it and Pankratops in the hand to Fusion Summon Dracotail Arthalion. With several effects resolving, Kovac added Nibiru, the Primal Being back to hand, Special Summoned Dracotail Arthalion from the Graveyard, Set Rahu Dracotail from his Deck, and activated Pankratops’ effect to destroy Yummyusment☆Acroquey. Morales reviewed the cards in his hand and Graveyard, and realized he would not be able to defend himself during Kovac’s following turn, and conceded. 

With that, Kovac wins the round and advances with a 11-2 record! He is one step closer to making it to the Top 8 here at YCS Anaheim!
