After 14 rounds of Swiss, we have our Top 8 Duelists!

Tobie Pickell, from Casa Grande, Arizona, is using a pure Yummy deck this weekend! In 2023, he won the Glendale, Arizona Regional, and this is his first YCS Top Cut! 

His opponent is Cameron Neal, from Dallas, Texas, who is using a Mitsurugi Yummy this weekend. He is a UDS Champion and a YCS Champion. Neal is used to the single-elimination rounds and is ready to take home another title this weekend!

Both Duelists exchanged pleasantries while they shuffled up for their Top 8 match!

Duel 1:

Neal won the dice roll and chose to go first.

Neal started with Mitsurugi Prayers in his Draw Phase and Tributed Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa to add and Special Summon Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji. He activated Saji and Aramasa’s effects to add Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi and Mitsurugi Ritual from his Deck to his hand. He moved into the Main Phase and Ritual Summoned Murakumo from his hand by using Futsu no Mitama no Mitsurugi from his Deck as a material. Neal activated Futsu’s effect and added Mitsurugi Mirror to his hand. He used the Mirror and Tributed Murakumo for Futsu, then tried to use Murakumo’s effect, but was stopped by Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring!

Neal Normal Summoned Kusanagi and activated its effect to add Mitsurugi Ritual back to his hand. He activated the Ritual and Tributed his Saji and Kusanagi for Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi from his Deck! Then, Neal Xyz Summoned The Zombie Vampire and detached Futsu to Special Summon Marshmao☆Yummy, which added back Yummy☆Surprise from the Graveyard! He Linked Summoned Gravity Controller with Zombie Vampire. Then, Neal used Marshmao and Gravity Controller to Synchro Summon Cupsy★Yummy Way! He tried to activate its effect but was stopped by Dominus Purge. 

Neal then Link Summoned Yummy★Snatchy with Cupsy and placed Yummyusment☆Mignon onto the field.

Neal used Mignon’s effect and Special Summoned Marshmao back to the field. He then Synchro Summoned Lollipo★Yummy Way and used its effect to Special Summon back Marshmao and Cupsy★Yummy Way. Cupsy and Marshmao were used to Link Summon I:P Masquerena, then Neal Set 2 cards and ended his turn!

Pickell had Called by the Grave, Pot of Prosperity, and Cupsy☆Yummy in his hand, and he drew another Dominus Purge for his turn.

Pickell started off with Pot of Prosperity banishing 3 cards, and Neal Chained Lollipo’s effect. Neal returned Lollipo to the Extra Deck and Special Summoned back Cupsy★Yummy Way and Marshmao☆Yummy. Pickell revealed Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, Triple Tactics Thrust, and Marshmao☆Yummy with Prosperity. He added the Thrust to his hand and immediately activated it to grab Triple Tactics Talent! Pickell activated his Triple Tactics Talent to take control of one of Neal’s monsters; he took control of Cupsy★Yummy Way. 

After Talent resolved, Neal activated I:P Masquerena and Link Summoned S:P Little Knight! He activated S:P and banished the Cupsy that Pickell just took control of. 

Pickell Normal Summoned Cupsy☆Yummy and activated its effect. Neal Chained the effect of S:P and banished both monsters on the field. Pickell added Marshmao☆Yummy and activated its effect, Neal Chained Mitsurugi Prayers, and Pickell Chained Called by the Grave, targeting Murakumo, but Neal Chained Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! 

Neal Special Summoned his Futsu with Prayers, Pickell Special Summoned Marshmao. In a new Chain, he activated Marshmao, and Neal Chained Futsu’s effect to Special Summon Murakumo.

Neal activated Murakumo’s effect to destroy Pickell’s monsters, and Pickell conceded the first Duel!

Duel 2:

Pickell chose to go first and started with Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring, Dominus Purge, Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!, Triple Tactics Talent, and Droll & Lock Bird.

Pickell activated Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage!; he used it to add Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones to his hand, which he immediately activated. He Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari and used it to grab back and activate the Hornet Drones. His Kagari and Sky Striker Ace Token were used to Synchro Summon Cupsy★Yummy Way, which he activated to add Marshmao☆Yummy and Cupsy☆Yummy, then discard Marshmao. 

Pickell Special Summoned Cupsy and added Yummy☆Surprise, then used Cupsy to Link Summon Yummy★Snatchy and placed Yummyusment☆Mignon onto the field. He used Mignon to Special Summon back his Cupsy and then used Snatchy and Cupsy to Synchro Summon Lollipo★Yummy Way. 

Pickell activated Lollipo to bring back Cupsy and Marshmao, and then Synchro Summoned Martial Metal Marcher with Marshmao and Lollipo, Marcher’s effect brought back Lollipo. Marcher and Cupsy were used for Herald of the Arc Light!

Pickell Set 2 and ended his turn!

Neal drew a card for his turn. He activated Dark Ruler No More! Neal followed it up with a Pre-Preparation of Rites, and Pickell gave the thumbs up for Neal to add Mitsurugi Mirror and Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi. Pickell activated Droll & Lock Bird! Neal paused before activating Lightning Storm to wipe away Pickell’s Spells and Traps! Pickell Chained Yummy☆Surprise, but Neal had Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion! 

Neal continued by activating Mitsurugi Mirror and Tributing his Habakiri for Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi! He activated Murakumo’s effect to wipe the rest of Pickell’s field! He Set 1 card and ended his turn!

Pickell drew Yummyusment★Acroquey, he activated Mignon in his Graveyard and returned Cupsy★Yummy Way and Yummy★Snatchy back into his Extra Deck to put Mignon back on the bottom of his Deck. During the End Phase, Neal flipped Mitsurugi Prayers and Tributed his Murakumo! Pickell activated Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to stop the Prayers. 

Neal activated Murakumo and Mirror in his Grave and added Habakiri to his hand, brought back his Murakumo, and then drew to start his turn.

He started by activating Habakiri, knowing what was going to happen, Pickell conceded the match!
