Genesys Qualifier Feature Match: Scott DeVoe vs. Julian Lipoff
We’re back with more Yu-Gi-Oh! Genesys! Just like the inaugural Genesys at YCS Anaheim, we have a Genesys Invitational this weekend. We’ll be running Genesys Qualifiers all day today, with the top two Duelists from each qualifying for the Genesys Invitational tomorrow.
This Feature Match showcases the finals of one of the Genesys Qualifiers. We’ve got Scott Devoe, from Brown Lake, New York, playing Generaiders! This Deck was affected by the recent points update, making it harder to play True King of All Calamities in conjunction with the best Generaider cards – DeVoe has skipped entirely on Calamities to focus on the fundamentals. On the other side of the table is Julian Lipoff, from Monroe Township, New Jersey. Lipoff is using a P.U.N.K. Deck, packing all kinds of additional Psychic-type support for a Synchro and Fusion strategy.
Duel 1
DeVoe won the dice roll and played first. He had a hand of Generaider Boss Stage; Droll & Lock Bird; QQ Enneagon; Nibiru the Primal Being; and Vala, Seidhr of the Generaider Bosses.
He led with QQ Eneagon’s effect, bringing it and Vala to the field. He stacked them for Laevatein, Generaider Boss of Shadows. He activated Boss Stage and passed the turn.
Lipoff drew his card, triggering Boss Stage, but Lipoff Chained Cosmic Cyclone to banish the Boss Stage! He activated the effect of Noh-P.U.N.K. Ogre Dance, adding Noh-P.U.N.K. Ze Amin to his hand, and DeVoe responded with Droll & Lock Bird. Lipoff Set one back row card. In the End Phase, DeVoe used Laevatein’s effect, Tributing it to bring forth Jormungandr, Generaider Boss of Eternity! He couldn’t use the effect this turn due to Droll & Lock Bird.

DeVoe drew Veidos, the Eruption Dragon of Extinction. He used Jormungandr, drawing Loptr, Shadow of the Generaider Bosses, then having both players attach a card to Jormungandr. DeVoe chose Veidos, and Lipoff attached Noh-P.U.N.K. Deer Note. DeVoe Normal Summoned Loptr, using its effect to Special Summon Mardel, Generaider Boss of Light. He used Mardel’s effect to put a new Boss Stage in his hand. He sent Jormungandr and Mardel to attack directly, dropping Lipoff to 1600 Life Points. DeVoe activated Boss Stage, then used Jormungander to Xyz Summon Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS – Sky Thunder. Lipoff drew, triggering Boss Stage’s effect to bring Harr, Generaider Boss of Storms to the field, along with two Generaider Tokens. Lipoff Normal Summoned Ze Amin, activating its effect, and DeVoe negated and destroyed it with Harr by Tributing his Tokens. Lipoff activated Emergency Teleport! He Special Summoned Serene Psychic Girl, and used it to banish Nibiru from his hand and Special Summon Ukiyoe-P.U.N.K. Sharakusai. DeVoe used Zeus here, wiping everything from the field and keeping two Xyz Materials for another volley. Lipoff activated P.U.N.K. JAM Extreme Session, banishing Sharakusai from the Graveyard, and Zeus wiped that away as well. Left with just one card in hand and a clear field, Lipoff conceded!

Duel 2
DeVoe began this time with QQ Enneagon, Nibiru, World Legacy Monstrocity, Veidos, and Nidhogg, Generaider Boss of Ice.
Lipoff began by Normal Summoning Mind Procedure, using its effect to add Emergency Teleport to his hand. He played Teleport to Special Summon Serene Psychic Girl. He used that to banish Ze Amin from his hand and Special Summon another Ze Amin from the Deck. Ze Amin’s effect put Noh-P.U.N.K. Foxy Tune in his hand. He used Serene Psychic Girl’s other effect to increase the Levels of his monsters. He tuned Ze Amin to Procedure for P.U.N.K. JAM Dragon Drive, using its effect to put Hushed Psychic Minister in his hand. He used Dragon Drive to play P.U.N.K. JAM FEVER!, then Special Summoned Noh-P.U.N.K. Rising Scale by banishing Ze Amin from his Graveyard. He used its effect to Special Summon Gagaku-P.U.N.K. Wa Gon. That put P.U.N.K. JAM Extreme Session in his hand. He played it, then Special Summoned Minister. He tuned Minister to Psychic Girl for Serene Psychic Sorceress. He used its effect to Set Teleport Fusion.
He stacked Wa Gon and Sorceress for Psychic Blaster Mk-II! He used its effect to Special Summon his banished Ze Amin. He used the effect of Foxy Tune, discarding Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit to Special Summon Noh-P.U.N.K. Deer Note. He used Deer Note and Ze Amin to Synchro Summon Crossmind Archfiend. Deer Note activated to try and Special Summon Ze Amin. DeVoe responded here, hoping to block Lipoff’s last open Monster Zone with Veidos and destroy Extreme Session in the process. Lipoff Chained JAM FEVER to negate and destroy Veidos first. With JAM FEVER already used, DeVoe was now free to wipe the field with Nibiru! Lipoff lost everything, receiving an 11,500/9100 Primal Being Token in exchange. Lipoff Set his last card in his back row, stymied for now.

DeVoe drew another Nibiru. He activated the effect of QQ Enneagon, bringing it and Nidhogg to the field. Lipoff flipped Teleport Fusion, and DeVoe responded with World Legacy Monstrocity, bringing Harr and Mardel to the field. Teleport Fusion then let Lipoff banish Sorceress and Dragon Drive from his Graveyard to Fusion Summon Absolute Axon Kicker in Defense Position. Mardel’s effect activated, and Lipoff paid 2000 Life Points for Absolute Axon Kicker’s effect! DeVoe used Harr’s effect, Tributing Harr and Nidhogg to negate Axon’s effect. Mardel’s effect put Boss Stage in DeVoe’s hand. He stacked Mardel and Enneagon for Laevatein. He sent it to attack and destroy Absolute Axon Kicker. Lipoff banished Teleport Fusion from his Graveyard to Special Summon his banished Ze Amin. Nibiru attacked Ze Amin, and Lipoff flipped Joruri-P.U.N.K. Nashiwari Surprise to destroy Laevatein. DeVoe Tributed Laevatein for its effect to bring Jormungandr to the field, attaching Absolute Axon Kicker and Minister from the Graveyard to it. Nibiru’s attack finally concluded, destroying Ze Amin. He then used Jormungandr, drawing another World Legacy Monstrocity, then attaching Nibiru from his hand as a material, while Lipoff drew and attached Droll & Lock Bird. Using Jormungandr, he Xyz Summoned Zeus and wiped the field, then played Boss Stage and Set Monstrocity.
Lipoff drew, and Boss Stage let DeVoe Special Summon Harr. He then flipped Monstrocity to Special Summon Vala and Utgarda, Generaider Boss of Delusion from his Deck. Vala’s effect brought Nidhogg back to the field. Facing down a full field of Generaiders to negate and banish his cards, with just one card left in hand, Lipoff offered the handshake!

Scott DeVoe wins this Genesys Qualifier with Generaiders! We’ll see both of these Duelists tomorrow in the Genesys Invitational!
