Tech Update – THE CHRONICLES DECK: The Fallen & The Virtuous (All-Foil Edition)
THE CHRONICLES DECK: The Fallen & The Virtuous (All-Foil Edition) is a special all-foil Deck built around key characters and events from episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! CARD GAME: THE CHRONICLES. The Deck contains 51 cards in total, and two of them are brand-new cards that many Duelists competing this weekend have added to their Decks. Take a look at how Duelists are using these two new cards as tech options in some of their strategies that utilize The Fallen of Albaz!
(1.) The Fallen & The Virtuous
Not to be confused with the name of the 51-card Deck that is available in stores, The Fallen & The Virtuous is a Quick-Play Spell Card that is always treated as a “Branded” and “Dogmatika” card and has two separate effects that you can choose from. The first effect lets you send a monster that mentions Fallen of Albaz from your Extra Deck to your Graveyard to target a face-up card on the field and destroy it. The second effect can be used if you have an “Ecclesia” monster on your field or in your Graveyard and lets you target a monster from either Graveyard to Special Summon to your field.
While both effects are powerful, the prevalence of Fallen of Albaz in Branded Dracotail Decks in the tournament this weekend have steered Duelists toward using The Fallen & The Virtuous for its first effect. At its surface, the first effect of The Fallen & The Virtuous is a simple one that can eliminate an opponent’s card by destroying it. But Duelists are finding a lot more depth to its strength. The cost of sending a monster that mentions Fallen of Albaz from your Extra Deck to your Graveyard can give you immediate access to the effects of a variety of Fusion Monsters with effects that activate from the Graveyard. Those Fusion Monsters include Albion the Branded Dragon, Titaniklad the Ash Dragon, Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon, and more. Albion the Branded Dragon is a particularly common choice of card to send to the Graveyard when activating The Fallen & The Virtuous because its effect lets you add to your hand or Set another copy of The Fallen & The Virtuous from your Deck in the End Phase, repeating the cycle.
Many Duelists have also found The Fallen & The Virtuous to be an effective way to destroy one’s own cards. Lots of cards that are popular in the current metagame target cards before negating their effects. These include Effect Veiler, Infinite Impermanence, Dracotail Flame, and more. If the targeted card leaves the field before it can be negated, its effect will resolve. That’s where The Fallen & The Virtuous comes in. By using The Fallen & The Virtuous to destroy your own cards that are targeted for negation, you can ensure that your most important card effects, like the effect of Dracotail Arthalion, resolves.
The Fallen & The Virtuous has a simple effect, but it can be applied in a variety of ways to help win a Duel.
(2.) The Dragon that Devours the Dogma
The Dragon that Devours the Dogma is a new Fusion Monster available in THE CHRONICLES DECK: The Fallen & The Virtuous (All-Foil Edition). It has 3000 ATK, 2500 DEF, and an effect that powers it up if an “Ecclesia” monster is on the field or in either Graveyard. Plus, if it’s Special Summoned, you can shuffle 2 cards from any Graveyards or banishment into the Deck. Finally, during the End Phase, if The Dragon that Devours the Dogma is in your Graveyard because it was sent there that turn, you can add a “Dogmatika” or “Tri-Brigade” card from your Deck to your hand. The Dragon that Devours the Dogma has a variety of useful effects that can disrupt an opponent’s strategy and that allows it to work in conjunction with The Fallen & The Virtuous. But one of the main reasons Duelists are using it this weekend is because of the Fusion Materials required to Summon it.
The Dragon that Devours the Dogma can be Summoned by fusing Fallen of Albaz with a LIGHT or DARK monster and an effect monster. Since Fallen of Albaz has an effect that lets it fuse with an opponent’s monsters, this presents an opportunity for it to fuse with two of an opponent’s monsters at once. Plus, since DARK monsters, LIGHT monsters, and monsters with effects are just about everywhere, The Dragon that Devours the Dogma is easy to Summon while using an opponent’s monsters as Fusion Materials.
The two new cards in THE CHRONICLES DECK: The Fallen & The Virtuous (All-Foil Edition) are being used this weekend to boost the power of Branded Decks. They’re seeing some of the best results in Branded strategies that are paired with Dracotail theme. Follow the coverage to see if these two popular tech cards for Branded Decks make it into the Top 8 cut this weekend!
