Round 1 Feature Match: Brendan Broadnax vs. John Kim

We’re kicking off the Remote Duel action with a Yummy Feature Match! First up is Brenden Broadnax, here from the Bronx in New York, playing Yummy Mitsurugi! This hybrid strategy has been all the rage lately, getting the best of both themes. His opponent is John Kim, hailing from British Columbia on the opposite side of the continent! He’s playing Yummy as well, but without the Mitsurugi engine, leaving more room for tech cards.

Duel 1

Broadnax won the dice roll, and began with Mitsurugi Prayers in his Draw Phase. Kim responded with Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion to negate it. Broadnax Set two cards in his back row.

Kim led with Pot of Prosperity, banishing six cards from his Extra Deck, adding Marshmao☆Yummy to his hand. He used its effect to Special Summon it, then Link Summoned Yummy★Snatchy. He used Snatchy’s effect to grab a Field Spell, and Broadnax flipped up Forbidden Droplet, sending an Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring to the graveyard to negate Snatchy. Kim Special Summoned Cooky☆Yummy, and Synchro Summoned Cupsy★Yummy Way. Broadnax negated that with an Ash Blossom, and Kim responded with Cupsy★Yummy Way’s effect, tagging it out for the two Yummy monsters in his graveyard. Broadnax had already spent everything to try and slow Kim down, and knew he was already out of this Duel – he conceded here to move on to the next one.

Duel 2

Broadnax started this Duel by activating the effect of Ame no Habakiri no Mitsurugi, which brought Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Saji to the field and Tributed it. Kim used Ash Blossom on Saji, but Broadnax had Called by the Grave to negate Ash Blossom. Saji’s effect put Mitsurugi Ritual in Broadnax’s hand, and he activated it to Ritual Summon Ame no Murakumo no Mitsurugi from his hand, Tributing Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Aramasa and Mitsurugi no Mikoto, Kusanagi from his Deck. Kusanagi returned Mitsurugi Ritual to his hand, and Aramasa put Futsu no Mitama no Mitsurugi in his hand.

Broadnax continued by Normal Summoning Cooky, and Link Summoned Snatchy. Snatchy put Yummyusment☆Mignon on the field. He used his Field Spell’s effect to bring back Cooky, and Synchro Summoned Cupsy★Yummy Way. Its effect put Cupsy☆Yummy and Marshmao in his hand, and he discarded Habakiri. He Special Summoned Cupsy from his hand, with its effect adding Yummy☆Surprise to his hand. He used Cupsy and Cupsy★Yummy Way to Synchro Summon THE Star Ham. He used THE Star Ham’s effect to discard Marshmao and bring Cupsy back to the field. He used both of them to Synchro Summon Herald of the Arc Light. He activated Mitsurugi Ritual to bring forth Habakiri from his Deck, tributing Futsu from his hand (which was banished due to Herald). Futsu’s effect put Mitsurugi Great Purification in his hand. He Set two cards in his back row to finish the turn.

Kim Normal Summoned Ash Blossom. Broadnax flipped up Surprise to Special Summon Cupsy★Yummy Way. Kim Link Summoned Salamangreat Almiraj. He then played Dark Ruler No More, and Broadnax flipped Great Purification, tributing Murakumo to negate Kim’s Spell Card. Broadnax tried activating Murakumo’s effect, and Kim responded with Dominus Purge! Broadnax responded to that with Cupsy★Yummy Way, tagging it out for Cooky and Snatchy. Cooky’s effect destroyed Almiraj, cutting off Kim’s plans for any Yummy Synchro Summons – he conceded!

Duel 3

Kim played first this time, leading with Sky Striker Mobilize – Engage! to put Sky Striker Mecha – Hornet Drones in his hand. He played that to Special Summon a Sky Striker Ace Token, and immediately Link Summoned Sky Striker Ace – Kagari. It returned Hornet Drones to his hand, and he played it again for a new Token. He Special Summoned Cooky, and used it with Kagari to Link Summon Cupsy★Yummy Way. It put Cupsy and Marshmao in his hand, and he discarded another Engage. He Special Summoned Lollipo☆Yummy, and used it with Cupsy★Yummy Way for Martial Metal Marcher. It brought back Cupsy★Yummy Way, and he Synchro Summoned Herald of the Arc Light. He used his Sky Striker Ace Token to Link Summon Snatchy, which put Mignon on the field. He Special Summoned Cupsy, adding Surprise to his hand. He Normal Summoned Marshmao, and used it for another Snatchy. He used Snatchy and Cupsy for Lollipo★Yummy Way, which revived Cupsy and Marhsmao with their effects negated. He used one Yummy for Linkuriboh, and then both monsters for Silhouhatte Rabbit, which Set Apophis the Serpent on the field. He used Mignon to bring back Marshmao, and then used it with Snatchy to Link Summon S:P Little Knight. He Set a card in his back row to finish.

Broadnax played Mitsurugi Prayers in his Draw Phase, Tributing Habakiri, which was banished due to the Herald. Kim had Ghost Belle in response! Broadnax activated the Tributed Habakiri’s effect, Kim responded with Lollipo★Yummy Way, tagging it out, and Broadnax Chained a new Prayers (this is allowed since the activation of the first Prayers was negated). As the Chain resolved: Prayers put Saji in Broadnax’s hand, Kim Special Summoned Cupsy and Cupsy★Yummy Way, and Habakiri put Murakumo in Broadnax’s hand.

In a new Chain, Kim’s Cupsy let him draw a card. Broadnax activated Marshmao’s effect in his hand, and Kim responded with Cupsy★Yummy Way to revive Snatchy and Cooky. Broadnax’s Marshmao hit the field, and in a new Chain, Kim’s Cooky destroyed Broadnax’s monster, and Kim’s Snatchy put Acroquey on the field. Broadnax Normal Summoned Saji, and Kim responded with S:P Little Knight, targeting his Silhouhatte Rabbit and the Saji. Saji’s effect put Mitsurugi Ritual in Broadnax’s hand. Upon the resolution of the Chain, Kim flipped up Apophis the Serpent, which Set Apophis the Swamp Deity. Broadnax conceded the Duel! He revealed his remaining cards, a Cupsy and a Crossout Designator that never found a good window to be useful.
