Deck Profile: Conrad Selig’s Flamvell / Lightsworn Deck
Flamvells were introduced with “Flamvell Commando” in the Ancient Prophecy booster set. With the new release of Hidden Arsenal came a bunch of new Flamvell monsters. Conrad Selig is using one of them here today. “Flamvell Magician” is a Level 4 Tuner with 200 DEF. Since “Rekindling” from Ancient Prophecy Special Summons all FIRE monsters with 200 DEF from the Graveyard, Selig is using these two cards together in his Flamvell Lightsworn Deck. The main point of the Deck is to send cards from the Deck to the Graveyard using “Charge of the Light Brigade,” “Solar Recharge,” and the effects of the Lightsworn monsters. Then, when there are enough Flamvell monsters in his Graveyard, Selig can activate “Rekindling” to swarm the field and finish off his opponent.

Selig is only using 2 different Flamvell monsters in his Deck, but he’s using 3 copies of one and 2 copies of the other. Those 2 monsters are “Flamvell Magician” and “Flamvell Firedog.” With enough of them in the Graveyard, Selig is able to flood the field with monsters and attack for 8000 damage in a single turn! If Selig Summons 2 copies of “Flamvell Firedog” and 3 copies of “Flamvell Magician” with rekindling, that’s 8000 ATK on the field! Even if Selig can’t use “Rekindling” to win the game in one turn, he can still make great use of his Flamvell monsters.
Since “Flamvell Firedog” Special Summons a Flamvell monster from the Graveyard whenever it destroys an opponent’s monster in battle, Selig can use it to Special Summon “Flamvell Magician” from his Graveyard. Then, he can Tune them together for a fast Level 8 Synchro Monster like “Stardust Dragon” or “Colossal Fighter.” He can also Tune “Flamvell Firedog” with “Flamvell Magician” whenever he activates “Rekindling,” even right after he Tunes the two monsters together. Then, Selig’s opponent will be staring down 2 Level 8 Synchro Monsters! Since the monsters returned to the field with “Rekindling” are used for a Synchro Summon, they’re sent to the Graveyard instead of getting removed from play, and can be returned to the field once again when another copy of “Rekindling” is activated.
Even with 9 card slots dedicated to Flamvell monsters and “Rekindling,” Selig managed to include a full Lightsworn line-up in his Deck, plus 3 copies of “Honest” and 2 copies of “Judgment Dragon.” His Deck works like any other Lightsworn Deck, but with the added ability to flood the field with “Rekindling” and Summon a bunch of Level 8 Synchro Monsters.
Since “Flamvell Magician” is a Tuner Monster, Selig can also Tune it with a Lightsworn monster if he’s about to run out of cards in his Deck. Some Lightsworn Decks have trouble controlling the number of cards they send to the Graveyard with their Lightsworn monsters, and lose because of it. Selig will rarely be faced with this problem because of the easy access his Deck has to Tuner monsters.
If Selig is successful in today’s tournament, we may see several Lightsworn Duelists change their Decks in favor of an explosive Lightsworn/Flamvell hybrid like this one.
