Deck Profile: Orlando Andujar’s Stardust Assault Mode Deck

November 14th, 2009

“Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode” has one of the most powerful effects in the game. By Tributing it, you can negate and destroy any Spell, Trap, or Monster Effect, and then Special Summon “Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode” back to your field during the End Phase. Since you need to Tribute a Stardust Dragon to use “Assault Mode Activate” and Summon Stardust Assault Mode, some Duelists find it difficult to Summon it to the field. But not Orlando Andujar. His Deck makes Summoning “Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode” a breeze.

The goal of Andujar’s Deck is to Summon “Stardust Dragon” as fast as possible and then use “Assault Mode Activate” to bring out “Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode” and lock down the opponent.

To speed this up, Andujar packed his Deck with cards that let him draw more cards. “Allure of Darkness,” “Destiny Draw,” and “Magical Mallet” help Andujar accomplish this goal. With “Magical Mallet,” he can even return however many copies of Stardust Assault Mode that he drew, in order to pick up new cards in their place.

With “Destiny Draw,” he can discard “Destiny Hero – Malicious.” For Andujar’s Deck, it’s important to get Malicious into the Graveyard as fast as possible. He runs “Dark Grepher” to help him send Malicious to the Graveyard. By removing Malicious from the Graveyard, Andujar can Summon another Malicious from his Deck, which provides him a Level 6 monster for the Synchro Summon he wants to perform. By adding a Level 2 Tuner, he can create Stardust Dragon instantly. Andujar uses “Plaguespreader Zombie” and “Krebons” for his Level 2 Tuners and uses “Emergency Teleport” so that he can search for “Krebons” whenever he needs to.

But Andujar uses Level 3 and Level 4 Tuners too. Andujar’s 1 Level 3 monster, “Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind,” can be Tuned with a “Reaper on the Nightmare” that he Special Summons with “Instant Fusion.” He can Tune his Level 4 “Rose, Warrior of Revenge” to any Level 4 non-Tuner in his Deck, or the “Darkfire Dragon” in his extra Deck (with the help of “Instant Fusion”). By discarding a Spell Card with “Summoner Monk,” he can even Summon Rose from his Deck and Synchro Summon “Stardust Dragon” immediately. Andujar can also use “Mystic Tomato” to search his Deck for “Summoner Monk” or Malicious when he needs it for that Level 8 Synchro Summon.

With this huge variety of potential Tuners and Synchro Material Monsters, Andujar has a lot of bases covered to get out his “Stardust Dragon.”

Once Andujar Summons “Stardust Dragon,” he should have no problem bringing out “Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode.” With 2 copies of “Assault Mode Activate” in his Deck and 3 copies of “Assault Beast” to search them out, Andujar can always upgrade his “Stardust Dragon.”

Andujar knows that most Decks being played here today will have a lot trouble getting Stardust Assault Mode off of the field and keeping it in the Graveyard. “Stardust Dragon/Assault Mode” can negate the effects of all commonly played monster cards, including “Honest,” “Blackwing – Kalut the Moon Shadow,” and “Destiny Hero – Malicious.” It can also negate commonly played spell cards like “Solar Recharge” and “Destiny Draw.” He took advantage of that fact while building his Deck and is hoping his decision pays off today.
