Tech Update: Stardust Overdrive, Part 2

November 14th, 2009

Here’s a look at some more Stardust Overdrive cards that we’ve seen making waves here today in Columbus!

“Dark Simorgh”:

Players love the idea of making their opponents’ cards impossible, so “Dark Simorgh” is seeing a lot of play here. Since “Dark Simorgh” stops your opponent from Setting any cards, all of your opponents’ Trap Cards are stuck in the hand, and your opponents’ Flip-Effect Monsters can’t be Set.

While the DARK monsters needed to Summon “Dark Simorgh” can be seen in almost every Deck, awesome WIND monsters can be a little bit harder to find. Some of the Duelists here today running “Dark Simorgh” have chosen “Raiza the Storm Monarch,” “Mist Valley Soldier,” and “Elemental Hero Stratos” as their WIND line-up, but other choices are still open to be explored.

“Gateway of the Six”:

“Gateway of the Six” is just what Six Samurai fans were hoping for: a reliable way to search their Decks for “Grandmaster of the Six Samurai.” But “Gateway of the Six” does much more than just that.

Every time a Six Samurai is Normal or Special Summoned, you can put 2 Bushido Counters on it. By removing 2 Bushido Counters from your side of the field, you can boost a Samurai (or Shien’s) ATK by 500. This can be used to give your monsters the boost they need to attack over your opponent’s monsters. Can’t destroy your opponent’s “Gladiator Beast Laquari” with “The Six Samurai – Irou”? No problem. Just remove 2 counters from “Gateway of the Six” and Irou will get the boost he needs.

By removing 4 Bushido Counters, you can search your Deck for any Six Samurai Monster Card. That means “Grandmaster of the Six Samurai,” who is important to draw if you want to swarm the field, can be added to your hand after just 2 Six Samurai cards are Summoned. If you already have Grandmaster in your hand, you can search for different Six Samurai cards instead, like “The Six Samurai – Zanji.” Plus, when you Special Summon the Grandmaster you’re holding, you’ll be able to add 2 more Bushido Counters to “Gateway of the Six.”

By removing 6 Bushido Counters, you can Special Summon one “Shien” Effect Monster from your Graveyard. The best “Shien” monster to Summon in this case would be “Great Shogun Shien” since he’s the strongest “Shien” Effect Monster, with 2500 ATK, and he prevents your opponent from playing more than 1 Spell or Trap Card each turn.

Since “Gateway of the Six” lets you remove Bushido Counters from anywhere on your side of the field, you can also remove them from other copies of “Gateway of the Six,” or even from “Six Samurai United.” This is a great trick if you want to rack up Bushido Counters to use its effects. By activating multiple copies of “Gateway of the Six” or using “Six Samurai United,” you can get the effects you want twice as fast!

“Crusader of Endymion”:

Crusader of Endymion is a 1900 ATK Level 4 Gemini Monster. Its Gemini effect will let you put a Spell Counter on one card to boost Crusader’s ATK by 600, making him a 2500 ATK monster. This can be very useful if you want to give “Breaker the Magical Warrior” a second Spell Counter to destroy a second Spell or Trap Card, or if you want to give “Dark Valkyria” another Spell Counter so she can destroy a second monster.

Best of all, since “Crusader of Endymion” is a Gemini Monster, he works great with all of the available Gemini support cards. Even if you don’t use him for his effect, you can still combo him with “Gemini Spark” to destroy an opponent’s card and draw one card. “Gemini Spark” is quickly gaining popularity as Duelists realize its power. Since it’s a quick-play Spell Card, it can be used aggressively as soon as you draw it, or defensively on your opponent’s turn. Drawing a card is always a great thing too. In a dedicated Gemini Deck, you can also use “Supervise” on “Crusader of Endymion” to give him his effect, or Special Summon “Crusader of Endymion” from the Graveyard after “Supervise” is sent there.
