Pegasus League Deck Profile: Charlotte Anongos’ X-Saber / Lightsworn Deck

January 9th, 2010

Many Duelists have combined X-Sabers with Lightsworn in the past to get their X-Saber monsters into the Graveyard quickly. Charlotte Anongos extended this strategy into today’s Pegasus League: Deck Challenge. Take a look at her X-Saber Deck, designed specifically for today’s Pegasus League. Keep in mind that in another month, Absolute Powerforce will completely revolutionize the way that X-Sabers are played in both constructed tournaments and Pegasus League: Deck Challenges.

(Check back for the Deck List after the event is over!)

Anongos’ X-Saber line-up consists of “X-Saber Airbellum,” “X-Saber Uruz,” “XX-Saber Faultroll,” “XX-Saber Fulhelmknight,” “XX-Saber Ragigura,” and “XX-Saber Gardestrike.” Faultroll, Fulhelmknight, Ragigura, and Gardestrike can all be found in Ancient Prophecy, while “X-Saber Airbellum” and “X-Saber Uruz” can be pulled from packs of Hidden Arsenal. That makes them all legal for today’s Pegasus League: Deck Challenge.

Anongos is also running 3 copies of “Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter” from Turbo Pack: Booster One, along with 2 copies of “Charge of the Light Brigade” (from Stardust Overdrive Special Edition) to search them out. Both Ryko and Charge help Anongos send X-Saber monsters from her Deck to her Graveyard where she can retrieve them with her 3 copies of “Gottoms’ Emergency Call” or “XX-Saber Ragigura.” She also needs 2 X-Sabers in her Graveyard in order to Special Summon “XX-Saber Gardestrike” from her hand, and Ryko and Charge help her achieve that goal. Anongos’s 2 copies of “Card Trooper,” found in the Warrior’s Strike Structure Deck, also help her send X-Sabers from her Deck to her Graveyard when she needs them there.

In addition to a full X-Saber line-up and a splash of Lightsworn, Anongos is running 2 copies of “Hand Destruction” and 2 copies of “One for One.” “One for One” is a Limited Card in Advanced Format, but is allowed in 3’s for the Pegasus League. It can be used to Special Summon “XX-Saber Ragigura” from the Deck, allowing Anongos to retrieve any X-Saber from her Graveyard. That includes “XX-Saber Faultroll.” Since “XX-Saber Gottoms” is an Ultra Rare in Ancient Prophecy, she can sometimes follow up by executing the combo that discards her opponent’s entire hand. If you’re unfamiliar with this combo, you can check it out in the Absolute Powerforce preview article for “XX-Saber Emmersblade.” “Hand Destruction,” a Common in Turbo Pack: Booster One, not only sends the X-Saber monsters she needs in the Graveyard where they belong, it also helps her dig through her Deck for the cards that help her form the combo with Gottoms.

Anongos is running “Rescue Cat” in her X-Saber Deck too. When she Summons it, she can Tribute it to  pull 2 copies of “X-Saber Airbellum” out of her Deck and eliminate her opponent’s hand by attacking, or Special Summon an Airbellum alongside a “Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter” in order to Synchro Summon the Level 5 Synchro Monster, “Ally of Justice Catastor” from Hidden Arsenal.

Anongos is also running “Lightning Vortex,” “Mirror Force” and “Sakuretsu Armor” in her Deck. These are cards that will prove pivotal for Duelists in today’s tournaments. “Smashing Ground,” “Torrential Tribute” and “Bottomless Trap Hole” aren’t legal in the current Pegasus League format, so the success of many Duelists will hinge on how well they can default to other forms of removal. You may also notice 3 copies of “Mystical Space Typhoon” in Anongos’s Deck, compensating for the absence of “Heavy Storm” in the current format.

X-Saber Decks look like they’re the most popular Deck type in today’s Pegasus League: Deck Challenge. They’re generally doing well in the flights, but plenty of other creative Decks are standing strong against them.
