Deck Profile: Kevin Moon’s “Cyber Eltanin” Deck
Of all the new Decks coming out of the woodwork this weekend, one of the biggest surprises may be LIGHT Machines. With new cards like “Cyber Eltanin”, Stardust Overdrive’s “Lord British Space Fighter,” and Absolute Powerforce’s “Cyber Dragon Zwei,” Machine Duelists just keep getting new ways to Summon huge, Duel-winning monsters. Since so many of them share the Machine Type and the LIGHT Attribute, building an aggressive Machine Deck isn’t that difficult. The real challenge is deciding precisely which combos you want to use. There are alot to pick from.
Kevin Moon is one of several Duelists here today playing LIGHT Machines, and he’s come up with a lot of creative ways to blow away the competition. Here’s what his version of the Deck looks like:
Monsters | Spells | Traps |
3x Cyber Eltanin 1x Cyber Dragon 1x Hyper Synchron 3x Shining Angel 1x The Light – Hex-Sealed Fusion 2x Lord British Space Fighter 3x Honest 1x D. D. Warrior Lady 1x Morphtronic Scopen 1x Card Trooper 1x Sangan 3x Cyber Valley |
2x Gold Sarcophagus 1x Future Fusion 1x Overload Fusion 1x Limiter Removal 1x Brain Control 1x Mind Control 1x Mystical Space Typhoon 1x Heavy Storm 1x Giant Trunade 1x My Body As A Shield 1x D.D.R. – Different Dimension Reincarnation |
1x Return from the Different Dimension 1x Call of the Haunted 1x Trap Dustshoot 1x Beckoning Light 1x Solemn Judgment 1x Torrential Tribute 1x Mirror Force |
This Deck is all about combos! Moon packs so many crushing card combinations into one Deck that it’s tough to even list them all. To give you an idea, here are just a few of the big plays he can make:
Combo 1: Activate “Future Fusion,” declaring “Chimeratech Overdragon” to send as many as 10 LIGHT Machines to the Graveyard. Then, remove them all to Special Summon “Cyber Eltanin” with 5000 ATK.
Combo 2: Attack a monster with “Lord British Space Fighter.” Activate the effect of “Honest” to boost the Space Fighter’s ATK, then activate “Limiter Removal” to double the boosted Attack Point value! Then, use the Space Fighter’s effect to attack a second time with its boosted ATK.
Combo 3: Special Summon “Cyber Dragon,” then Normal Summon “The Light – Hex-Sealed Fusion.” Tribute both to Special Summon “Cyber Twin Dragon,” attacking twice for a total of 5600 damage.
Combo 4: Activate “Future Fusion,” declaring “Chimeratech Overdragon” to send up to 12 Machines to the Graveyard. Follow up with “Overload Fusion” to Summon “Chimeratech Overdragon” with 9600 ATK. And if your opponent controls any monsters, you’ll attack up to 12 of them!
Moon can set up big attacks by removing monsters with “Gold Sarcophagus,” “Overload Fusion,” or “Cyber Eltanin”, bringing them back later with “D.D.R. – Different Dimension Reincarnation” and “Return from the Different Dimension.” He can clear the field with “Black Rose Dragon,” using “Morphtronic Scopen” or “Hyper Synchron” as his Tuners (both are LIGHT Machines).
It’s not all just attacking, though. Since Moon plays 3 copies of “Cyber Valley” he’s got some sweet tricks with those:
- Use “Brain Control” or “Mind Control” to take an opponent’s monster, then remove it and “Cyber Valley” from play to draw 2 cards.
- Use “Lord British Space Fighter” to destroy monsters and Special Summon “Multi Tokens,” then remove them and “Cyber Valley” to draw cards.
- If he Summons a low-ATK “Cyber Eltanin” because there weren’t a lot of LIGHT monsters hanging around, it will still clear the field with its effect, then he can Normal Summon “Cyber Valley” and remove both of his monsters to draw cards.
Moon says one of the biggest dangers to his Deck is “Royal Oppression.” “It took me forever to tweak my Side Deck to a degree where I was satisfied,” he explained. “Three “Royal Decree” were a must for when my opponent brings in “Light-Imprisoning Mirror,” “Skill Drain,” or “Royal Oppression.” Decree and “Consecrated Light” really mess with Blackwings, too.” “Consecrated Light” is one of the most popular new cards we’re seein today from Absolute Powerforce, and it’s great for Moon’s Deck, because it stops his opponents from Summoning “Tragoedia,” “Gorz the Emissary of Darkness,” or “Battle Fader” when he makes a big attack.
This Deck is a blast to play, and should be a lot of fun to watch in competition this afternoon. It loses its third “Honest” in the upcoming Advanced Format, but with “Cyber Dragon” moving from the Limited List to Semi-Limited it gains another big attacker plus another combo piece! The Deck doesn’t slow down at all on March 1, while other Decks do, and that’s really going to work in its favor over the coming months.
Kevin Moon is one of many Duelists pioneering an impressive new strategy, and if it shines here today we could see LIGHT Machines making a big impact in the coming months of competition!
