Round 8 Feature Match: Justin Dizazzo vs. Jeff Jones
For the final Feature Match of Day 1, let’s take a look at the Duelists proudly sitting at Table 1. Jeff Jones is running a Quickdraw Dandywarrior Deck, while his opponent, Justin Dizazzo is playing Machina Gadgets. Both Duelists are undefeated, but a win here would give one of them a big edge in making Top 32 tomorrow.
Jeff Jones won the dice roll and opened up with Dandylion, Sangan, Quickdraw Synchron, Foolish Burial, Starlight Road, and Dust Tornado. He started off the Duel by Special Summoning Quickdraw Synchron by discarding Dandylion and Special Summoning 2 Fluff Tokens to the field. On his next turn Jones Summoned Debris Dragon and returned Dandylion to his field. He Tuned Dandylion, Debris Dragon, and the Fluff Token to Synchro Summon Stardust Dragon and Dizazzo flipped Bottomless Trap Hole. But Jones negated it with the effect of Stardust Dragon! Moments later, Dizazzo conceded, with his cards completely outmatched.

Jones flipped his face-down Ryko on his next turn, trying to destroy Dizazzo’s Mystical Space Typhoon, which was chained. Then he Summoned Card Trooper, sent the top card of his Deck to his Graveyard to give it 500 ATK, and declared an attack with it. Dizazzo used Book of Moon to flip the Trooper face-down and survive the turn.
But it wouldn’t be enough to keep him in the Duel for long! As soon as Jones was up again after Dizazzo made his next play, Jones discarded Dandylion to Special Summon Quickdraw Synchron from his hand. He Tuned the Synchron to a Fluff Token the Dandylion Special Summoned and then Drill Warrior used its effect to attack directly and end the Match.
In a close 2-1 victory, Jeff Jones’s Quickdraw Dandywarrior Deck takes down Dizazzo’s Machina Gadget Deck and moves on to Day 2 undefeated!

Jason Grabher-Meyer (The Old Man of Dueling)
Dizazzo lost a lot of cards to Light and Darkness Dragon in the third Duel, but he could have saved one of them if he’d played a little differently. When Dizazzo Summoned Machina Fortress, he sent it to attack and destroy Jones’ Super-Nimble Mega Hamster instead of the 2300 ATK Light and Darkness Dragon. If he’d attacked the Dragon instead, both of Jones’ monsters would have been destroyed, and Dizazzo’s Red Gadget would have been safe from the Dragon next turn. Jones would have Special Summoned Dandylion a turn earlier, and the Duel could’ve gone in a totally different direction.
Michael Kohanim (2009 World Championship Competitor)
In Duel 1, Jones quickly pulled off the combo that makes his Deck so dangerous to play against. By Summoning Drill Warrior early on and using it to repeatedly discard Dandylion and swarm the field with Fluff Tokens, Jones was able to significantly slow down Dizazzo and outmatch Dizazzo’s cards by putting his influx of Tokens to use. While many Duelists weren’t ready to face Jones’s Quickdraw Dandywarrior Deck in Edison, I expect competitors at the upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series to be more prepared, taking away the advantage that the “surprise factor” gave to Quickdraw Dandywarrior Decks in Edison.
Michael McTavish (Top 8 Finalist – 2009 Canadian National Championship)
This was a great Match, and I think every player could learn something from it. My favourite lesson from this Match is that Starlight Road wins games. Reading the last couple paragraphs of Duel 2 shows you just how powerful a card it is, and also shows you exactly why it’s incredibly important to keep one eye open on to the possibility of it being on the field at all times. If you don’t, you could end up staring down a Stardust Dragon you can’t deal with.
P.J. Tierney (Duelist from across The Pond)
The first Duel showed just how powerful a Drill Warrior loop can be. Jeff was able to Synchro Summon his Drill Warrior on the very first turn, and then use its effect every turn to get more Fluff Tokens with Dandylion, and add any monster he needed back to his hand. Although Dizazzo did manage to get rid of the first Drill Warrior with Machina Fortress, Jones just Summoned another one using the cards he got back with the first one, and kept the loop going.
