Round 3 Feature Match: Lazaro Bellido vs. Richard Lam

August 7th, 2010

Richard Lam is playing a Flamvell Synchro Cat Deck that’s been updated to take advantage of Hidden Arsenal 2’s Naturia Beast. His opponent is former Canadian Champion Lazaro Bellido, who’s here playing X-Sabers.

Bellido started us off with a Set monster and a Set Spell or Trap.

Lam had Rekindling, Super-Nimble Mega Hamster, Mystical Space Typhoon, Sea Koala, Mind Control, and Giant Trunade. He Set a monster, Set a card to his Spell and Trap Card Zone, and ended.

Bellido flipped his Set Heavy Storm, destroying Lam’s Mystical Space Typhoon. He Flip Summoned X-Saber Airbellum, Summoned another, and Special Summoned XX-Saber Faultroll! Faultroll attacked Super-Nimble Mega Hamster, it Special Summoned Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter from Lam’s Deck in face-down Defense Position, and X-Saber Airbellum attacked into it. Ryko’s effect destroyed the other Airbellum, and sent Book of Moon, Bottomless Trap Hole, and Flamvell Magician to the Graveyard. Bellido Special Summoned his Airbellum back with Faultroll in Main Phase 2, Tuning them together for XX-Saber Gottoms. He Tributed his second Airbellum, forcing Lam to discard Mind Control. He then activated Gold Sarcophagus, removing Rescue Cat from his Deck to add it to his hand 2 turns later. Two Set cards to the back row ended Bellido’s turn.

Lam drew Flamvell Firedog. He activated Giant Trunade, Summoned Sea Koala, and Special Summoned Flamvell Magician with Rekindling. That got him Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, and he discarded his last card, Flamvell Firedog, to send XX-Saber Gottoms back to the Extra Deck. Brionac attacked for 2300 Battle Damage and Lam ended, with nothing left in his hand.

Bellido drew to 3 cards, and activated another Gold Sarcophagus. He used that one to remove Phantom of Chaos from his Deck, and Set his 2 cards to his back row again. He’d get his Rescue Cat next turn.

Lam drew Pot of Avarice, with exactly 5 cards in his Graveyard! He activated it, sent back all 5 of his monsters to his Deck, and drew Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter and Trap Dustshoot. Brionac attacked for another 2300 damage, and Lam Set Ryko and Dustshoot.

Bellido drew a card, then added Rescue Cat to his hand. He Summoned it, sent it to the Graveyard to Special Summon 2 XX-Saber Darksouls in Defense Position, and then activated Gottoms’ Emergency Call! That Special Summoned back both of his Airbellums, and he Tuned 1 to a Darksoul to Synchro Summon XX-Saber Hyunlei. Her effect destroyed Trap Dustshoot, Bellido Synchro Summoned Goyo Guardian, and the Guardian attacked Brionac to destroy it, Special Summoning it to Bellido’s side of the field. Hyunlei attacked Ryko, its effect activated, and Lam opted to destroy Goyo. He sent Mirror Force, Caius the Shadow Monarch, and Summoner Monk to the Graveyard. Bellido got X-Saber Pashuul and XX-Saber Faultroll from his Deck with the effects of his Darksouls.

Lam drew Torrential Tribute! He Set it.

Bellido drew and took his Phantom of Chaos. Would he stumble into Lam’s trap? It looked that way for a moment, as Bellido Summoned Pashuul. But when Lam flipped Torrential Tribute, Bellido Chained Trap Stun, and it was all over. Lam conceded and went straight for his Side Deck.

Lazaro Bellido plays aggressively from the start of the first Duel, forcing Richard Lam to make costly plays that leave him with no cards and no way out! He’d have to win both of the remaining Duels to stay undefeated.

Lazaro Bellido

Lam started the second Duel with a hand of Mystical Space Typhoon, X-Saber Airbellum, Starlight Road, Solemn Judgment, Pot of Avarice, and Torrential Tribute. He Set everything but Airbellum and Avarice.

Bellido Set a monster, then Set 2 cards to his back row.

Lam drew Super-Nimble Mega Hamster and Set it immediately.

Bellido activated Cold Wave from his hand next turn! Lam Chained Solemn Judgment to negate it, and Bellido Set another monster.

Lam drew Rekindling. He Flip Summoned Super-Nimble Mega Hamster, Special Summoned Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter in face-down Defense Position, and attacked with Hamster to destroy Bellido’s XX-Saber Darksoul. He ended, and Bellido searched his Deck for XX-Saber Faultroll.

Bellido Normal Summoned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight, attacked Lam’s Ryko, and Ryko destroyed Bellido’s Set Book of Moon. He sent Royal Oppression, Brain Control, and another Ryko to the Graveyard. Bellido Special Summoned X-Saber Airbellum from his Graveyard with Fulhelmknight’s effect, Synchro Summoned XX-Saber Hyunlei in Main Phase 2, and targeted just 1 of his opponent’s cards with her effect, smelling that Starlight Road. Lam responded with Torrential Tribute, not the card Hyunlei targeted, and Bellido Chained a Starlight Road of his own! Lam lost his Starlight Road to Hyunlei, and Bellido Special Summoned Stardust Dragon! He Flip Summoned XX-Saber Darksoul, Special Summoned XX-Saber Faultroll, used its effect to Special Summon back Fulhelmknight, and Tuned it to Hyunlei to Synchro Summon XX-Saber Gottoms. He Tributed Darksoul to make Lam discard Airbellum, then Tributed Faultroll and Gottoms itself to discard the rest of Lam’s hand. In the End Phase Bellido got Faultroll and Boggart Knight from his Deck, and ended with Stardust Dragon and 4 cards in-hand.

Lam drew Giant Trunade, with Hamster and Mystical Space Typhoon Set. He Set Trunade and turned Hamster to Defense Position.

Bellido attacked Hamster with Stardust next turn, Set a monster, and Set Trap Stun. He lost it to Mystical Space Typhoon in the End Phase.

Lam Set Bottomless Trap Hole, took 2500 damage from Stardust Dragon, and drew Rekindling. No help there, and Lam immediately conceded!

Lazaro Bellido moves on with a 3-0 record!
