YCS Toronto First Timers!

September 4th, 2010

As always, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series attracts Duelists of all different ages and skill levels from all over the globe. Here are some of the Duelists who are here to compete in their very first YCS event!

Genex Neutron lets him add Black Salvo directly from his Deck to his hand. It can also be Special Summoned by Black Salvo. These give him a distinct advantage in Level 7 Synchro Summoning.

Tom Morran is 14 years Toronto native. He came today with his very own Black Salvo Chaos Deck with Genex Neutron. He’s been playing competitively for just over a year, but he’s been playing for fun for years now! When asked what his favourite card was, he replied “Dimensional Alchemist! It’s Awesome!” He really likes how big the room is, comparing it to Regional Tournaments and this year’s World Championship Qualifier. It’s even bigger than both of them. We wish Tom the best of luck!

FTimer-Persaud

Dan Persaud is 15 years old and is also from here in Toronto. He came today with his own special X-Saber Deck. He has been playing since he was just 7 years old. Dan couldn’t choose just one favorite card. “My favorites are probably Trap Stun, XX-Saber Boggart Knight, or XX-Saber Faultroll, they’re all really good.” When asked what he thought about the YCS, Dan responded “This event is huge! So many more people, even more people than [our WCQ]!”.

Cactus Bouncer + Naturia Bamboo Shoot is a fearsome combo. It stops all Special Summons and keeps your opponent from playing Spells and Traps!

Justin Lam is 14 years old and is, once again, from the Toronto area. There sure are a lot of Toronto Duelists excited to be at their first YCS! He’s here with a few of his friends at his first Yu-Gi-Oh Championship Series event ever and is playing a Plant Deck based  with Cactus Bouncer and other “lockdown” cards. His favorite card is Naturia Bamboo Shoot. Justin has played since he was 8 years old. Good luck to Justin, and we hope he has a great time! Check him out in his Feature Match debut!

Even with only 1 Black Whirlwind, Blackwing Decks can run through their cards like its their job. Digging for Delta Crow - Anti Reverse with Pot of Duality and Cards for Black Feathers makes it easier for Blackwing Duelists to beat anyone who Sets 4 Spell and Trap Cards and expects to win.

Cody Bary is here today entering his first YCS tournament with his Blackwing Deck. He’s 15 years old and hails from Peterborough, Ontario. He’s been Dueling for 3 years now. He got into Yu-Gi-Oh! because all of his friends started playing and it looked fun so he decided to join in. He was immediately hooked. “I was up all night with my buddies yesterday before leaving.” He took the bus along with 13 other people from Peterborough at 4am in the morning to be here today.  His favourite card to bring out when he’s ready to win is Dark Armed Dragon!

The YCS attracts Duelists from all walks of life for a good reason: it’s an incredibly fun place to be! You can Duel, hang out with your friends, and meet people from all over the world. If you’ve never been to one before, now’s the time!
