Deck Profile: Pongyue Moua’s Flamvell Deck
Pongyue Moua piloted his Flamvell Deck to a Top 32 finish this weekend, using 5 different Flamvells in his Main Deck, including Flamvell Baby and Flamvell Grunika. Moua’s Deck can build up a huge Graveyard and then makes a game-winning play with Rekindling, or just use his big monsters like Flamvell Firedog to gradually chip away at his opponent’s Life Points and build up a field. The versatility of Moua’s Deck made it tough for a lot of his opponents to beat this weekend. Take a look at Moua’s Decklist!

Flamvell Firedog, Flamvell Magician, Flamvell Baby, Flamvell Grunika, and Flamvell Archer are the star monsters in Moua’s Deck. All of them can be Special Summoned with Rekindling, and when Moua destroys an opponent’s monster in battle with Flamvell Firedog, he can Special Summon one of the other 4 Flamvell Monsters from his Deck.
Since Flamvell Baby is a Level 1 Tuner, Flamvell Archer is a Level 3 Tuner, and Flamvell Magician is a Level 4 Tuner, destroying a monster with his Level 4 Flamvell Firedog allows Moua to quickly Synchro Summon a Level 5, Level 7, or Level 8 monster. Being able to choose between monsters like Ally of Justice Catastor, Black Rose Dragon, or Stardust Dragon after destroying a monster with Flamvell Firedog is a powerful ability in the Flamvell toolbox.
Moua says his favorite play is to use Book of Moon to put an opponent’s monster face-down so that his Flamvell Firedog can attack over it. Moua also likes to Tune his Flamvell Tuners with Flip-Effect Monsters that have used their effects, including Super-Nimble Mega Hamster and Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, to Summon his strongest Synchro Monsters.
While Moua’s Deck has tons of cool plays and interaction between the monsters themselves, Rekindling brings his Deck to higher level of competition. A single Rekindling can turn the Duel in Moua’s favor and allow Moua to grab a victory from the jaws of defeat, just like it did in his Round 10 Feature Match. No matter how few cards are in Moua’s hand or on his field, Rekindling can flood Moua’s field with Tuners and non-Tuners, allowing him to finish off his opponent in a single turn.
Moua’s Deck uses Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, Charge of the Light Brigade, and Card Trooper to feed his Graveyard with Flamvell monsters. Every Flamvell monster Moua gets into his Graveyard raises the strength of his Rekindling by letting it Summon more monsters, and increasing Moua’s options for Synchro Summons due to the Level-variety of his Flamvells.
Decks using Flamvell Firedog and Flamvell Magician have been popular for a while, but no one has ever topped a YCS with the Flamvell dedication that Moua has shown here this weekend. Moua’s success may inspire Duelists to try out other Flamvell cards and explore the theme’s full potential.
