3rd Place Feature Match: Ronald Mack vs. Brandon Wigley

Ronald Mack and Brandon Wigley both lost their Top 4 Matches, and were now facing off for 3rd place in a battle between Gravekeeper’s and X-Sabers. The winner here would receive a Super Rare Set of Darklord Prize Cards, so both Duelists will be giving this Match their all!

Mack opened up with Gravekeeper’s Assailant, Allure of Darkness, Royal Tribute, and 3 copies of Book of Moon. He activated Allure of Darkness to draw Dark Hole and Gravekeeper’s Commandant from his Deck, then removed the Assailant from his hand. He pitched the Commandant to search his Deck for Necrovalley and add it to his hand, then activated it. He Set all 3 copies of Book of Moon, before activating Royal Tribute. Wigley lost an Emmersblade from his hand due to the effect of Royal Tribute.

Wigley activated Pot of Duality next turn, revealing Book of Moon, XX-Saber Boggart Knight, and XX-Saber Faultroll from the top of his Deck. He added Boggart Knight to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He Set 3 cards to his back row and ended his turn.

Mack drew Gravekeeper’s Spy next turn. He Set the Spy and passed.

Wigley activated Dark Hole to destroy the Spy. Then he Summoned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight and attacked directly, dropping Mack down to 6700 Life Points.

Mack drew Gravekeeper’s Descendant next turn. He activated Dark Hole to destroy Fulhelmknight, then Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant. Wigley flipped Bottomless Trap Hole and Mack Chained Book of Moon to put the Descendant face-down and protect it.

Wigley Summoned Boggart Knight next turn and attacked, but his monster was put face-down when Mack activated Book of Moon.

Mack drew Solemn Warning. He flipped his Descendant into Attack Position and attacked Wigley’s Boggart Knight. But Wigley used Book of Moon to put Descendant face-down. Mack Set Solemn Warning and passed.

Wigley flipped Boggart Knight and lost it to Mack’s Solemn Warning. He Set XX-Saber Darksoul before ending his turn.

Mack drew Solemn Warning and Set it. He flipped his Descendant and attacked Wigley’s face-down Darksoul with it. In his End Phase, Wigley searched his Deck for a copy of XX-Saber Boggart Knight to add to his hand with Darksoul’s effect.

Wigley Set a monster and passed his next turn.

Mack drew Bottomless Trap Hole, then attacked Wigley’s Set Darksoul with Descendant. He Set Bottomless Trap Hole, and Wigley searched his Deck for X-Saber Pashuul to add to his hand with Darksoul’s effect in the End Phase.

Wigley Set a monster and ended his turn.

Mack drew Gravekeeper’s Recruiter! He Summoned it to the field and activated his Descendant’s effect to Tribute it and destroy Wigley’s face-down Emmersblade. Mack grabbed another Recruiter from his Deck with the effect of the one he Tributed. Descendant attacked directly.

Wigley Summoned XX-Saber Boggart Knight next turn and activated its effect. Mack Chained Bottomless Trap Hole to remove it from play, and Wigley Special Summoned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight to the field in Attack Position.

Mack drew Gravekeeper’s Assailant next turn. He Summoned Gravekeeper’s Recruiter, and Wigley negated the Summon with Solemn Warning by dropping down to 4000 Life Points. Mack attacked with Descendant, but Fulhelmknight negated the attack.

Wigley switched Fulhelmknight to Defense Position and Set a monster along with a back row.

Mack drew Gravekeeper’s Stele next turn. He activated it to return Gravekeeper’s Recruiter and Gravekeeper’s Spy to his hand, then Summoned Gravekeeper’s Recruiter to the field. Mack attacked with his Descandant, and Wigley flipped Mirror Force, destroying the Recruiter and Descendant! Mack searched his Deck for a copy of Gravekeeper’s Descendant to add to his hand with his Recruiter’s effect.

Wigley flipped X-Saber Pashuul next turn, and then tried to Special Summon XX-Saber Faultroll from his hand. But Mack negated Faultroll’s Summon by activating Solemn Warning and dropping down to 2700 Life Points.

Mack drew Seven Tools of the Bandit next turn. He Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant and attacked the Attack Position Pashuul, dropping Wigley down to 2100 Life Points. Mack Set Seven Tools of the Bandit and ended his turn.

Wigley switched Pashuul to Defense Position next turn. He Set a back row and passed to Mack.

In Mack’s next Standby Phase, Wigley lost 1000 Life Points due to the effect of Pashuul, dropping him down to 1100 Life Points.  Mack Summoned Gravekeeper’s Assailant and Wigley used Book of Moon to put it face-down. Mack attacked Fulhelmknight with Descendant, destroying it in battle, before ending his turn.

Wigley Set a monster and passed.

Wigley lost another 1000 Life Points in Mack’s next Standby Phase, dropping him down to 100 Life Points. Mack flipped his Gravekeeper’s Assailant face-up and attacked X-Saber Pashuul, switching it into Attack Position with its effect to end the Duel!

Brandon Wigley put up a strong fight, but Ronald Mack emerged on top in Duel 1! Brandon Wigley will be going first in Duel 2!

Wigley started off the Duel by Setting a monster and ending his turn.

Mack opened up Duel 2 with Book of Moon, Solemn Warning, Divine Wrath, Gravekeeper’s Stele, and 2 copies of Gravekeeper’s Commandant. He sent 1 Commandant to the Graveyard to search his Deck for Necrovalley and activate it. Then he Summoned Gravekeeper’s Commandant and attacked Wigley’s face-down Emmersblade. Wigley Special Summoned another Emmersblade from his Deck with his first Emmersblade’s effect. Mack Set Book of Moon, Solemn Warning, and Divine Wrath before ending his turn.

Wigley tried to Summon XX-Saber Boggart Knight next turn, but Mack negated the Summon with Solemn Warning. Wigley Set a card to his back row and ended his turn.

Mack drew Starlight Road. He attacked Emmersblade with Gravekeeper’s Commandant, triggering Emmersblade’s effect. Mack activated Divine Wrath by discarding Starlight Road, negating Emmersblade’s effect.

Wigley Set a monster and a back row, ending his turn.

Mack drew Gravekeeper’s Descendant next turn. He tried to Summon it, but lost out to Wigley’s Solemn Warning. Mack attacked Wigley’s Set X-Saber Pashuul with Gravekeeper’s Commandant, flipping it face-up.

Wigley Summoned XX-Saber Darksoul. Mack flipped Darksoul face-down with Book of Moon and Wigley passed play back to Mack.

Mack drew Pot of Duality next turn after Wigley lost 1000 Life Points due to Pashuul’s effect. He activated it, revealing Mirror Force and 2 copies of Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from the top of his Deck. He added a Recruiter to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Then he Summoned Gravekeeper’s Recruiter to the field and ended his turn.

Wigley flipped XX-Saber Darksoul next turn and Tuned it to Pashuul to Synchro Summon Naturia Beast. Then he Normal Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh. Rai-Oh attacked and destroyed Recruiter, preventing Mack from using its effect. Next, Naturia Beast attacked and destroyed Mack’s Commandant.

Mack drew and Set Gravekeeper’s Spy next turn, but it wouldn’t be enough to save him! When Wigley activated Nobleman of Crossout to remove Gravekeeper’s Spy from the Duel, Mack conceded and prepared for Duel 3!

The Match pressed on to a final Duel, which would determine who would receive the Darklord Prize Cards!

Mack opened up with Starlight Road, Allure of Darkness, Pot of Duality, Necrovalley, Gravekeeper’s Spy, and Gravekeeper’s Commandant. He activated Pot of Duality, revealing Solemn Warning, Pot of Duality, and Gravekeeper’s Descendant from the top of his Deck. He added Gravekeeper’s Descendant to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Mack activated Allure of Darkness next, drawing Dark Hole and Royal Tribute, and removing Gravekeeper’s Descendant from his hand. Next, Mack activated Necrovalley and pitched a Commandant from his hand to search his Deck for another copy of Necrovalley. He Set Starlight Road and Dark Hole, as well as Gravekeeper’s Spy, then activated Royal Tribute. Wigley lost XX-Saber Darksoul and XX-Saber Fulhelmknight from his hand.

Wigley Summoned Doomcaliber Knight and attacked Mack’s face-down Spy. Spy flipped up and Doomcaliber Knight Tributed itself to negate the effect and destroy the Spy.

Mack drew Gravekeeper’s Descendant and Set it.

Wigley passed his next turn.

Mack activated Gravekeeper’s Stele to return Gravekeeper’s Commandant and Gravekeeper’s Spy to his hand. Then he Set a Spy and ended his turn.

Wigley passed without a play.

Mack drew Book of Moon. He Summoned Gravekeeper’s Commandant and then flipped his Gravekeeper’s Descendant. Wigley removed the Descendant from the Duel with Bottomless Trap Hole. Mack flipped Gravekeeper’s Spy next, and Special Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant from his Deck with Spy’s effect. When Wigley activated Torrential Tribute (which Mack saw with Royal Tribute), Mack Chained Starlight Road to negate it and Special Summon Stardust Dragon from his Extra Deck! Mack attacked directly with Gravekeeper’s Spy, and Wigley Special Summoned Gorz the Emissary of Darkness along with its Token in Defense Position. Gravekeeper’s Commandant destroyed the Emissary of Darkness Token in battle, and Mack Tributed Gravekeeper’s Spy in Main Phase 2 to destroy Gorz. Mack Set Book of Moon before ending his turn.

Wigley activated Giant Trunade next turn and Special Summoned Cyber Dragon from his hand. He Set a card to his back row and then used Cyber Dragon to attack and destroy Descendant.

Mack activated Necrovalley next turn. Then he attacked Cyber Dragon with Stardust Dragon and attacked directly with Commandant. Mack Set 2 cards to his back row and passed.

Wigley Special Summoned another Cyber Dragon and attacked Gravekeeper’s Commandant, but Mack blocked the attack by putting the Cyber Dragon face-down with Book of Moon.

Mack drew Gravekeeper’s Recruiter next turn. He Summoned it and used it to attack over Wigley’s face-down Cyber Dragon. Direct attacks from Gravekeeper’s Commandant and Stardust Dragon wiped out the rest of Brandon Wigley’s Life Points!

Ronald Mack defeats Brandon Wigley’s X-Sabers by using Gravekeepers, and takes a 3rd place finish in the tournament!
