Feature Match: Sunday’s Dragon Duel Finals – Jackson Baum vs. Josh Dal Porto

Jackson Baum is 12 years old and from Nashville, Tennessee. Tomorrow, he’ll be 13, and ineligible to become a Dragon Duel Champion, so today is his last shot at a title. But Josh Dal Porto, a 10-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida, is looking to prevent that from happening, by getting a title of his own. Baum is using X-Sabers and Dal Porto is playing Plant Synchro, so this is sure to be an interesting Match!

Dal Porto started off the Match by Setting a monster face-down.

Baum opened up with Giant Trunade, Pot of Duality, Monster Reborn, X-Saber Pashuul, XX-Saber Darksoul, and Gorz the Emissary of Darkness. He activated Pot of Duality, revealing X-Saber Airbellum, Super-Nimble Mega Hamster, and Trap Stun from the top of his Deck. He added X-Saber Airbellum to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Then he Summoned Airbellum to the field and attacked Dal Porto’s face-down Snowman Eater. Snowman Eater destroyed Airbellum with its effect and Baum lost 300 Life Points.

Dal Porto Tributed Snowman Eater to Summon Cyber Dragon next turn, and attacked directly for 2100 points of damage. Baum Special Summoned Gorz the Emissary of Darkness from his hand in Defense Position, along with an Emissary of Darkness Token in Defense Position.

Baum drew XX-Saber Fulhelmknight next turn. He activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon X-Saber Airbellum from his Graveyard, then switched Gorz and the Token to Attack Position. Gorz destroyed Cyber Dragon in battle, then Airbellum and the Emissary of Darkness Token attacked directly, dropping Dal Porto down to 3700 Life Points. Airbellum knocked One for One out of Dal Porto’s hand with its effect. Baum Set Giant Trunade and ended his turn.

Dal Porto Summoned Debris Dragon next turn and used its effect to Special Summon Snowman Eater. He Tuned his monsters together for Black Rose Dragon and activated its effect to destroy everything on the field!

Baum Summoned Fulhelmknight next turn and attacked directly with it.

Dal Porto Set a card to his back row and then Summoned another Debris Dragon next turn. He used its effect to Special Summon Snowman Eater, then Tuned Debris Dragon with Snowman Eater to Synchro Summon Black Rose Dragon. He attacked with Black Rose Dragon, but Baum negated the attack with Fulhelmknight’s effect.

Baum Summoned XX-Saber Darksoul next turn. He Tuned Darksoul with Fulhelmknight to Synchro Summon Goyo Guardian, then attacked Black Rose Dragon with Goyo. But Dal Porto flipped Mirror Force to stop the attack and destroy Goyo Guardian! Baum Set Book of Moon in Main Phase 2 and added Fulhelmknight from his Deck to his hand in the End Phase, thanks to Darksoul’s effect.

Dal Porto Summoned Lonefire Blossom next turn and Tributed it to Special Summon another copy from his Deck. Then he Tributed the new Lonefire Blossom to Special Summon Tytannial, Princess of Camellias. Tytannial attacked, and Baum put it down with Book of Moon. Black Rose Dragon attacked next, dropping Baum down to 3200 Life Points.

Baum Set Super-Nimble Mega Hamster and passed his next turn.

Dal Porto Summoned Glow-Up Bulb next turn. He attacked Super-Nimble Mega Hamster with Black Rose Dragon, triggering its effect and allowing Baum to Special Summon Darksoul from his Deck. Tytannial, Princess of Camellias destroyed Darksoul and then Glow-Up Bulb attacked directly. Dal Porto Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with Black Rose Dragon in Main Phase 2 to Synchro Summon Scrap Dragon. Baum grabbed Faultroll in the End Phase with the effect of his fallen Darksoul.

Baum Summoned Boggart Knight next turn and activated its effect to Special Summon XX-Saber Darksoul from his hand. Then he Special Summoned XX-Saber Faultroll and used its effect to Special Summon XX-Saber Fulhelmknight from his Graveyard. He Tuned Darksoul with Fulhelmknight to Synchro Summon Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Next, he discarded X-Saber Pashuul and XX-Saber Faultroll to return both of Dal Porto’s monsters to his hand. One direct attack from Faultroll later, and Dal Porto was out of the Duel!

Jackson Baum makes a swift comeback to defeat Josh Dal Porto in Duel 1! Dal Porto chose to go first in Duel 2!

Dal Porto Set a monster and ended his first turn.

Baum opened up with Mirror Force, Book of Moon, Dark Hole, XX-Saber Faultroll, Sangan, and Solemn Warning. He Set Sangan along with 3 back rows and ended his turn.

Dal Porto tried to Summon Lonefire Blossom next turn, but Baum activated Solemn Warning to negate its Summon by paying 2000 Life Points. Dal Porto Set a card to his back row and ended his turn.

Baum drew Effect Veiler and passed.

Dal Porto Summoned Debris Dragon next turn. He activated its effect to try to revive Lonefire Blossom from his Graveyard, but Baum sent Effect Veiler from his hand to his Graveyard to negate Debris Dragon’s effect.

Baum drew Gottoms’ Emergency Call next turn. He Set it and passed to Dal Porto.

Dal Porto flipped his face-down Foolish Burial next turn to send Dandylion from his Deck to his Graveyard. He Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens to the field in Defense Position with Dandylion’s effect. Then he activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Lonefire Blossom from his Graveyard. Dal Porto Tributed Lonefire Blossom to Special Summon Spore from his Deck, and then Tuned Spore with a Fluff Token to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron! Dal Porto drew a card from his Deck with the effect of Formula Synchron and then flipped his Snowman Eater to destroy his own Debris Dragon. Next, he removed Lonefire Blossom from his Graveyard to Special Summon Spore to the field as a Level 4 monster. But Baum flipped Spore face-down with Book of Moon before Dal Porto could Tune with it.

Baum activated Dark Hole next turn, wiping out all of Dal Porto’s monsters and Baum’s own Sangan! Baum searched his Deck for XX-Saber Emmersblade with the effect of Sangan and added it to his hand. He Summoned Emmersblade and attacked directly with it, dropping Dal Porto down to 6700 Life Points.

Dal Porto Special Summoned Cyber Dragon next turn. Then he Normal Summoned Debris Dragon and used its effect to Special Summon Dandylion from his Graveyard. Dal Porto Tuned Debris Dragon with Dandylion to Synchro Summon Black Rose Dragon, and activated its effect to destroy all cards on the field. Then he Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens in Defense Position from the effect of Dandylion, before ending his turn.

Baum Summoned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight next turn and used it to attack one of Dal Porto’s Fluff Tokens. He activated Fulhelmknight’s effect to Special Summon XX-Saber Emmersblade from his Graveyard, and used Emmersblade to take down Dal Porto’s last Fluff Token.

Dal Porto Summoned Card Trooper next turn and sent 3 Trap Cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to boost it to 1900 ATK. He used Card Trooper to attack Baum’s Emmersblade, and Baum Special Summoned XX-Saber Darksoul from his Deck with Emmersblade’s effect.

Baum drew XX-Saber Faultroll next turn and Special Summoned it to the field! He Tuned Fulhelmknight with Darksoul to Synchro Summon Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, then discarded Darksoul with Brionac’s effect to return Card Trooper to Dal Porto’s hand. Next, Baum Normal Summoned Boggart Knight. Then he used Faultroll’s effect to Special Summon XX-Saber Fulhelmknight from his Graveyard. Fulhelmknight, Boggart Knight, Brionac, and Faultroll all attacked directly, wiping out the rest of Dal Porto’s Life Points!

Jackson Baum defeats Josh Dal Porto 2-0 with X-Sabers to claim the title in his last Dragon Duel!
