Round 2 Feature Match: Justin Devletian vs. Jeremy Trammell

November 20th, 2010

Our Round 2 Feature Match lets us see Justin Devletian’s Psi-Blocker Falcon Deck in action. His opponent, Jeremy Trammell, is running X-Sabers. With so many important effects in X-Saber Decks that trigger on the field, including XX-Saber Emmersblade and XX-Saber Darksoul, Devletian’s Psi-Blockers may make this a tough Match for Trammell. Moreover, Trammell’s various effects from monsters like XX-Saber Darksoul and XX-Saber Ragigura show Devletian exactly which card to name with Psi-Blocker.

Trammell started things off by Summoning XX-Saber Fulhelmknight in Attack Position and Setting 2 cards to his back row.

Justin Devletian opened up with Bottomless Trap Hole, Fiendish Chain, Pot of Duality, Des Lacooda, Psi-Blocker, and Thunder King Rai-Oh. He activated Pot of Duality and revealed Effect Veiler, Fiendish Chain, and Thunder King Rai-Oh from the top of his Deck with its effect. He added Effect Veiler to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, Devletian Normal Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh. He used it to declare an attack against Fulhelmknight, but Trammell activated Dimensional Prison to remove Rai-Oh from the Duel. Devletian Set Bottomless Trap Hole and Fiendish Chain before ending his turn.

Trammell Summoned XX-Saber Boggart Knight next turn. Devletian flipped Bottomless Trap Hole, but Trammell flipped Trap Stun to negate it! Fulhelmknight and Boggart Knight attacked directly, and Devletian dropped down to 4800 Life Points. Trammell Set a card to his back row in Main Phase 2 and ended his turn.

Devletian drew Call of the Haunted next turn. He Set Des Lacooda and Call of the Haunted before immediately passing back to Trammell.

Trammell activated Cold Wave. Devletian Chained Fiendish Chain to immobilize Trammell’s Fulhelmknight. Next, Trammell Summoned XX-Saber Emmersblade. Boggart Knight attacked and destroyed Devletian’s Set Lacooda, then Emmersblade attacked directly to drop Devletian down to 3500 Life Points. In Main Phase 2, Trammell Tuned Fulhelmknight with Emmersblade to Synchro Summon XX-Saber Hyunlei, and Devletian negated its effect with Effect Veiler.

Devletian drew Book of Moon next turn, but with Cold Wave in effect, it was no help. He Set Psi-Blocker and passed.

Trammell attacked Psi-Blocker with Boggart Knight and then attacked directly with Hyunlei, dropping Devletian down to 1200 Life Points. Trammell Set a card to his back row and ended his turn. In Trammell’s End Phase, Devletian flipped Call of the Haunted to Special Summon his Des Lacooda.

Devletian drew Royal Oppression next turn. Then he flipped Des Lacooda face-down with its effect, and flipped it face-up to draw Breaker the Magical Warrior from his Deck. He Summoned Breaker to the field, but when Trammell flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to remove it from the Duel, Devletian conceded, knowing that his last 1200 Life Points would be wiped out on the following turn.

Jeremy Trammell dominates Duel 1 with an aggressive X-Saber strategy, and Justin Devletian will be starting things off in Duel 2!

Trammell Summoned XX-Saber Ragigura next turn, and Devletian flipped Torrential Tribute to clear the field. Devletian’s Falcon was destroyed along with Trammell’s Ragigura and Set Darksoul. In the End Phase, Trammell searched his Deck for XX-Saber Emmersblade with the effect of his Darksoul, and Devletian Special Summoned Mist Valley Falcon from his Graveyard with Call of the Haunted. “Draw Psi-Blocker!” Devletian exclaimed, hoping to prevent Trammell from using that Emmersblade.

Devletian drew Psi-Blocker! He Summoned it to the field and named XX-Saber Emmersblade with its effect. He attacked with the Falcon and had the falcon bounce itself to his hand so that it would no longer be attached to his Call of the Haunted. Devletian Summoned Mist Valley Falcon again next turn. He named Darksoul with the effect of his Psi-Blocker, then attacked Debris Dragon with his Falcon (by bouncing his face-up Call of the Haunted back to his hand) and attacked Darksoul with his Psi-Blocker. Darksoul’s effect couldn’t trigger due to the effect of Psi-Blocker. Devletian Set Call of the Haunted in Main Phase 2.

Trammell Summoned Emmersblade next turn and used it to attack and destroy Devletian’s Psi-Blocker. Then he Set a card to his back row and passed.

Devletian drew Mirror Force next turn, then activated Call of the Haunted to revive Psi-Blocker. He named Dimensional Prison with the Blocker, then entered his Battle Phase. He returned Psi-Blocker to his hand in order to attack Emmersblade with his Falcon. Emmersblade was destroyed in battle and Trammell Special Summoned Fulhelmknight from his Deck with Emmersblade’s effect. In Main Phase 2, Devletian Normal Summoned Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind and activated its effect to halve the ATK of Fulhelmknight. He activated Pot of Duality to reveal Psi-Blocker, Threatening Roar, and Book of Moon from the top of his Deck. He added Psi-Blocker to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back to his Deck. “So, it’s either a Darksoul or an Emmersblade,” he said, looking at Trammell’s Set monster. Devletian Summoned Psi-Blocker to the field and named Emmersblade with its effect. Then he used Psi-Blocker to attack Trammell’s Set monster: it was X-Saber Pashuul. Pashuul survived the battle. Trammell activated the effect of Faultroll next turn to try to Special Summon Pashuul, but Devletian flipped Royal Oppression and dropped to 1800 Life Points, in order to negate the effect and destroy Faultroll. Hyunlei attacked the Lacooda next, but Devletian removed it from the game with Dimensional Prison. When Boggart Knight attacked, Devletian stopped it with Fiendish Chain.

Devletian flipped Des Lacooda face-up next turn to draw a card, then flipped it face-down with its effect. Next, he Summoned Mist Valley Falcon, but Trammell flipped Torrential Tribute to clear the field.

Devletian Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh next turn. Thunder King Rai-Oh attacked and destroyed Ragigura, then Banisher of the Radiance wiped out Trammell’s face-down Fulhelmknight. Devletian Set a card to his back row and ended his turn.

Trammell Special Summoned Cyber Dragon! With Banisher of the Radiance in play, Devletian wasn’t able to send his Thunder King Rai-Oh to the Graveyard to negate its Summon. When Trammell entered his Battle Phase, Devletian flipped Threatening Roar to survive another turn.

Devletian drew Solemn Judgment next turn and conceded, with only 500 Life Points remaining and no way past Trammell’s Cyber Dragon.
