Both of these Duelists had won their earlier Feature Matches this morning, and now they were Dueling head-to-head, in a Match that would decide a seat in the Top 8! Michael Guzman is playing Volcanic Quickdraw, while Adrew Jeffries is running Machina Gadgets.  Both competitors were clearly very happy to have made it so far in this tournament.

Guzman opened with 2 Royal Decrees, Caius the Shadow Monarch, Volcanic Shell, Spore and Effect Veiler. He Set both Decree and Set a monster.

Jeffries Summoned Yellow Gadget, and Guzman negated its search effect with Effect Veiler. Yellow Gadget attacked to destroy Volcanic Shell, Jeffries Set 3 cards to his back row, and Guzman activated Decree in the End Phase.

Guzman drew and Summoned Volcanic Rocket, getting Blaze Accelerator from his Deck. He paid 500 Life Points to add his second Volcanic Shell to his hand, too. Rocket attacked, Jeffries stopped it with Book of Moon, and Guzman ended.

Jeffries Summoned Machina Gearframe, getting Machina Peacekeeper from his Deck with Gearframe’s effect. Gearframe attacked to destroy Rocket, and Yellow Gadget made a direct attack. Jeffries Set a third Spell or Trap.

Guzman drew Sangan, activated Blaze Accelerator, discarded Volcanic Shell to destroy Gearframe with Accelerator’s effect, then paid 500 Life Points to get his last Shell. He discarded it to destroy Yellow Gadget, then Set Sangan.

Jeffries Summoned another Gearframe! He grabbed Machina Fortress from his Deck.

“Another one?” Guzman asked. “Did you draw it?”

“Note sure,” replied Jeffries, giving a slight smile. Clearly he wasn’t going to give up any information for free.

Jeffries discarded Peacekeeper and Fortress to Special Summon Fortress, and attacked with Gearframe. Sangan was destroyed, and Guzman got Quickdraw Synchron from his Deck. Machina Fortress attacked for 2500 Battle Damage, and Jeffries attached Gearframe to Fortress in Main Phase 2.

Guzman discarded Spore to Special Summon Quickdraw Synchron, then Tributed it for Caius the Shadow Monarch. He targeted Machina Fortress with Caius’ effect, Fortress’ effect kicked in to force Guzman to discard his remaining in-hand card (another Caius), and Fortress was removed from the game. Caius made a direct attack, and the Duel stood at 5600 Life Points to 3300 in Jeffries’ favor.

Jeffries Special Summoned Yellow Gadget with Monster Reborn next turn, getting Green Gadget from his Deck. He Summoned that to get Red Gadget, flipped Book of Moon to turn down Caius, then attacked to destroy it. A direct attack finished the turn.

Guzman activated Charge of the Light Brigade, sending Debris Dragon, Dark Hole, and another Debris Dragon to his Graveyard to get Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter. He Set it.

Jeffries Summoned Red Gadget, getting another Yellow Gadget, and attacked Ryko with Yellow Gadget. Green Gadget was destroyed, and Guzman sent Dandylion, Cold Wave, and another Ryko to the Graveyard, Summoning 2 Fluff Tokens! Red Gadget destroyed a Fluff Token, and Jeffries Set a fourth Spell or Trap.

Guzman ripped Pot of Avarice! He activated it, sending 2 Debris Dragons, Sangan, and 2 Rykos back to his Deck to draw Monster Reborn and Tytannial. He Special Summoned Dandylion with Monster Reborn, then Tributed it and the Fluff Token to Tribute Summon Tytannial, Princess of Camellias. Jeffries blasted Decree with Mystical Space Typhoon, but Guzman flipped another Decree! He Special Summoned his 2 Fluff Tokens and attacked over Yellow Gadget with Tytannial.

Jeffries Summoned Yellow Gadget, searched for Green Gadget, and attacked the remaining Fluff Tokens.

Guzman drew Lonefire Blossom, Summoned it, and Tributed it to Special Summon another. He Tributed that to Special Summon Dandylion, and removed Lonefire to Special Summon Spore from his Graveyard as a Level 4 Tuner. He Synchro Summoned Black Rose Dragon, got 2 Fluff Tokens, and attacked over both Gadgets to destroy them. The Duel now stood at 1300 Life Points to 1900, with Guzman leading.

Jeffries Summoned Green Gadget. He got Red Gadget from his Deck, and Set a card to his Spell and Trap Card Zone.

Guzman Summoned Sangan, attacked Green Gadget with Black Rose Dragon, and when Jeffries’ Book of Moon was negated by Tytannial, Jeffries conceded.

Adrew Jeffries takes early control in the first Duel, but Michael Guzman mounts a big comeback to score the win! Jeffries would now need to take 2 back-to-back victories to stay alive in this tournament. Both Duelists spent a considerable amount of time making their Side Deck decisions.

Jeffries started the second Duel with Machina Gearframe, nabbing a copy of Machina Fortress from his Deck. He activated Pot of Duality next, choosing Dark Hole over Bottomless Trap Hole and another Gearframe. 2 Set cards to his Spell and Trap Card Zone finished the turn.

Guzman had Pot of Avarice, Thunder King Rai-Oh, Spore, Foolish Burial, Sangan, and Cold Wave. After a moment’s thought, he sent Dandylion to the Graveyard with Foolish Burial, Special Summoning 2 Fluff Tokens. He Set Sangan.

Jeffries activated Dark Hole, letting Guzman get Debris Dragon with Sangan’s effect. Jeffries continued, Summoning Green Gadget to add Red Gadget to his hand. He discarded Red Gadget and Machina Fortress to Special Summon Fortress, and made direct attacks to drop Guzman to 4100 Life Points.

Guzman drew Royal Decree and activated Cold Wave. He Normal Summoned Debris Dragon, Special Summoned Dandylion, Synchro Summoned Black Rose Dragon to clear the field, and Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens!

Jeffries Summoned King Tiger Wanghu! It attacked to destroy a Fluff Token.

But Guzman had Thunder King Rai-Oh, and Summoned it to attack over Wanghu! He Set Decree.

Jeffries activated Giant Trunade, Summoned Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind, and halved Thunder King’s ATK and DEF before attacking to destroy it. He had 1 card left in hand and ended.

Guzman Summoned another Debris Dragon! He Special Summoned Dandylion, Synchro Summoned Scrap Dragon, and Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens. He attacked over Gale, and then Set his Decree once again before activating Pot of Avarice. He sent Black Rose Dragon, Sangan, Thunder King, and 2 Debris Dragons back to his Deck to draw 2 cards. He Set another card to his back row.

Jeffries Summoned Green Gadget, attacked a Fluff Token, and Set a card to his back row.

Guzman Normal Summoned Spore, Tuned it to a Fluff Token for Formula Synchron in Defense Position, and drew a card. Scrap Dragon attacked Green Gadget, Jeffries responded with Dimensional Prison, and Guzman Chained Royal Decree to negate it. Green Gadget was destroyed, and Jeffries had 4900 Life Points left to Guzman’s 3750.

Jeffries drew to 2 cards in hand with a bare field, staring down Royal Decree, Scrap Dragon, Formula Synchron, a Set card in Guzman’s Spell and Trap Card Zone, and 4 cards in Guzman’s hand. He Summoned Red Gadget, searched Yellow Gadget, and activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Gale. He Tuned it to the Gadget, Synchro Summoned Black Rose Dragon, and destroyed everything on the field.

Guzman Summoned Lonefire Blossom, Tributed it for another, and Special Summoned Tytannial, Princess of Camellias for a direct attack. It was all over a turn later as Jeffries conceded!
