We’ve seen a huge variety of matchups so far over the course of the weekend, but this is one of the few we haven’t seen in a Feature Match up until now: Travis Hilliard is playing Plant Synchro, while Adrew Jeffries is piloting Machina Gadgets. Royal Oppression could play a big role in this Match. Hilliard plays even more Special Summon cards than most Duelists, including multiple copies of Limit Reverse. But if Jeffries doesn’t draw Royal Oppression, he could be in trouble.

Jeffries opened the Match with Machina Gearframe, searching his Deck for Machina Fortress and adding it to his hand. He discarded Machina Peacekeeper and Fortress to Special Summon Fortress, attached Gearframe to Fortress and Set a Spell or Trap.

Hilliard’s hand was Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, Debris Dragon, Call of the Haunted, Scapegoat, Gorz the Emissary of Darkness, and Mind Control. He Set 2 cards to his back row and Set Ryko.

Jeffries Normal Summoned Machina Gearframe, searched his Deck for Machina Force, and activated Nobleman of Crossout to remove his opponent’s Ryko from the field. Hilliard lost 2 more from his Deck. Machina Fortress attacked, Hilliard activated Scapegoat, and Summoned 4 Sheep Tokens. Jeffries attacked 2 of them.

Hilliard drew Dandylion and Set it.

Jeffries Summoned Yellow Gadget, getting Green Gadget from his Deck. Fortress attacked Dandylion, Hilliard Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens, and both were destroyed by further attacks. Jeffries Set another Spell or Trap.

Hilliard drew Foolish Burial and Normal Summoned Debris Dragon, Special Summoning Dandylion. Book of Moon turned the Dragon face-down in response. Foolish Burial let Hilliard send Glow-Up Bulb to the Graveyard, and he sent One for One off the top of his Deck to Special Summon Bulb with its effect. He Tuned it to a Sheep Token for Formula Synchron, drew Limit Reverse, and Tuned Dandylion and Formula Synchron for Ally of Justice Catastor. He Special Summoned 2 more Fluff Tokens, attacked with Catastor to destroy Machina Gearframe, and ended.

Jeffries activated Dark Hole next turn. His Machina Fortress survived thanks to Machina Gearframe’s protection. He Summoned Green Gadget, got Red Gadget from his Deck, and attacked with Green Gadget. In response, Hilliard used Call of the Haunted to bring back Ally of Justice Catastor, and Jeffries didn’t replay his attack.

Hilliard drew Book of Moon. He attacked Fortress to destroy it with Catastor, then Set 2 cards to his back row.

Jeffries Summoned Red Gadget, got Yellow Gadget from his Deck, and Set a third Spell or Trap.

Hilliard drew another Limit Reverse. He attacked Green Gadget with Catastor, destroyed it, and Set a fourth card to his Spell and Trap Card Zone.

Jeffries activated Monster Reborn, targeted his opponent’s Debris Dragon, and Hilliard Chained Limit Reverse, picking the same target! But Jeffries Chained Royal Oppression! He got to Special Summon the Dragon. Jeffries Summoned Yellow Gadget, got Green Gadget, and ended.

Hilliard drew Monster Reborn, and the Duel stood at 8000 Life Points to 7200 in Hilliard’s favor. Catastor attacked to destroy Debris Dragon.

Jeffries Summoned Green Gadget, got another Red Gadget from his Deck, and activated Smashing Ground to try and destroy Hilliard’s Catastor. Hilliard had Book of Moon Set, but let Catastor be destroyed. Jeffries turned Red Gadget to Defense Position, attacked with Yellow Gadget, and then Green Gadget. Hilliard turned Green Gadget face-down with Book.

Hilliard passed.

Jeffries turned Red Gadget to Attack Position, attacked, and Hilliard activated Limit Reverse. Jeffries negated it with Royal Oppression, then made direct attacks with both Gadgets. Hilliard tried to Special Summon Gorz, but Jeffries negated its effect with Solemn Warning. He Flip Summoned Green Gadget in Main Phase 2 and Set another Spell or Trap.

Hilliard drew and Set Debris Dragon.

Jeffries Summoned another Red Gadget, atacking with Green Gadget, and hit Debris Dragon, but then he activated Limiter Removal! Green Gadget powered through Debris Dragon, and the remaining 3 Gadgets finished the Duel!

Adrew Jeffries takes the first Duel, turning everything around thanks to Royal Oppression! Oppression cuts Hilliard off from Glow-Up Bulb and not 1, but 2 copies of Limiter Reverse, leaving Jeffries with just 1 more Duel to win in order to take Machina Gadgets to the top 16.

Hilliard started Duel 2 with Caius the Shadow Monarch, Spore, Solemn Warning, Debris Dragon, Mind Control, and Snowman Eater. He Set Snowman and Warning.

Jeffries activated Pot of Duality, revealing Mirror Force, Dimensional Prison, and Book of Moon: he took Book. He Summoned Banisher of the Radiance, attacked into Snowman Eater, and Banisher was destroyed by its effect. Jeffries finished out by Setting 2 cards to his back row.

Hilliard drew Effect Veiler and passed.

Jeffries tried to Summon Yellow Gadget, and Hilliard negated the Summon with Solemn Warning. He Set a third Spell or Trap.

Hilliard drew Pot of Avarice and Summoned Debris Dragon. Jeffries fired back with Torrential Tribute to clear the field.

Hilliard Set a card to HIS back row!

Jeffries discarded 2 Machina Fortress to Special Summon 1 of them. It made a direct attack.

Hilliard drew Dandylion. He Summoned Spore, activated Mind Control targeting Machina Fortress, and and Jeffries Chained Book of Moon to turn Spore face-down. Hilliard Set another Spell or Trap and ended, sending back Fortress.

Jeffries attacked with Fortress next turn, and Hilliard repelled it with Book.

Hilliard Tributed Spore for Caius, but lost Caius to Solemn Warning!

Jeffries Flip Summoned Machina Fortress and attacked. Hilliard was down to 1000 Life Points, and Jeffries Set another Spell or Trap.

Hilliard Set a monster and another card to his back row.

Jeffries Summoned King Tiger Wanghu, attacked, and Hilliard discarded Effect Veiler to negate King Tiger’s effect. Hilliard flipped Royal Decree, trying to fend off the possibility of another Warning, but Jeffries negated Decree with Solemn Judgment! Sure enough, when Dandylion was destroyed Jeffries had another Warning to negate its effect, and Machina Fortress made 1 last direct attack to finish the Match!

Adrew Jeffries is headed to the Top 16 with Machina Gadgets!
