Brandon Wigley and Chase Simpson made it to the Top 8 playing X-Sabers and Blackwings respectively. The matchup between these 2 Decks has become a defining one in the format. At YCS Mexico, the final Match, as well as the 3rd place Match, was a battle between X-Sabers and Blackwings, with X-Sabers triumphing both times. Will this Match between Wigley’s X-Sabers and Simpson’s Blackwings follow the same result?

Simpson started things off by Setting a card to his back row and ending his turn.

Wigley opened up with Book of Moon, Cold Wave, Solemn Judgment, XX-Saber Fulhelmknight, XX-Saber Boggart Knight, and XX-Saber Faultroll. He activated Cold Wave and then Normal Summoned XX-Saber Boggart Knight from his hand. He used its effect to Special Summon XX-Saber Fulhelmknight, then Special Summoned XX-Saber Faultroll. He Tuned Fulhelmknight with Boggart Knight to Synchro Summon X-Saber Urbellum, and Simpson instantly conceded! With nothing but Spells and Traps in his hand, only a Bottomless Trap Hole face-down, and no new card to draw on his next turn, Simpson knew he wouldn’t last another turn.

One of the best possible hands for Brandon Wigley allows him to use his X-Sabers to make short work of Chase Simpson! Simpson will be going first in Duel 2!

Simpson started off the second Duel by Summoning Blackwing – Bora the Spear and setting 2 cards to his back row.

Wigley opened up with Thunder King Rai-Oh, XX-Saber Boggart Knight, XX-Saber Faultroll, Giant Trunade, Solemn Warning, and X-Saber Pashuul. He Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh but lost it to Bottomless Trap Hole. He Set Solemn Warning and then ended his turn.

Simpson attacked directly with Bora and Set 2 cards to his back row.

Wigley drew Gottoms’ Emergency Call next turn. He activated Giant Trunade to send Solemn Warning back to his own hand and 3 back rows to Simpson’s hand. He Normal Summoned Boggart Knight, used its effect to Special Summon Pashuul, and then Special Summoned XX-Saber Faultroll from his hand. He Tuned Pashuul with Boggart Knight to Synchro Summon XX-Saber Hyunlei, then activated Faultroll’s effect to Special Summon X-Saber Pashuul in Attack Position. Hyunlei attacked over Bora, then Pashuul and Faultroll attacked directly, dropping Simpson down to 4900 Life Points.

Simpson tried to Summon Blackwing – Gale the Whirlwind next turn, but lost out to Wigley’s Solemn Warning. Simpson Set 3 cards to his back row and passed his turn. Wigley activated Gottoms’ Emergency Call to Special Summon Pashuul and Boggart Knight from his Graveyard during Simpson’s End Phase.

Wigley Tuned Pashuul with Boggart Knight on his next turn, in order to Synchro Summon XX-Saber Hyunlei, and destroyed all of the cards in Simpson’s back row with Hyunlei’s effect. Simpson immediately conceded, realizing he wouldn’t survive the turn.
