YCS Atlanta First-Timers!

November 21st, 2010

We’re here in Atlanta for the last YCS of 2010. But not all of today’s competitors are veteran tournament-goers who have been to a YCS before this one. For many of the Duelists in attendance, this is their first-ever YCS experience! I asked some of the YCS first-timers what they think of it. Take a look at their replies!

First Timer Jones.

Jeremy Jones is 16 years old from South Carolina. He’s running a Flamvell Lightsworn Deck in today’s tournament. “I like Flamvells,” he said, when I asked him why he chose that Deck. “I combined them with Lightsworns, because that was the best engine to use with them.” When I asked Jeremy about the tournament turnout, he said it’s pretty much what he expected. “It’s pretty big,” he said. “I’ve never been to anything this big. I’ve been to Regionals before, but nothing like this.” Jeremy seemed excited about starting his first YCS!

First Timer Ramos.

Jon Ramos is 18 years old from Puerto Rico. He’s running a Quickdraw Deck in the tournament because he likes the way it plays. When I asked him what he thought of the event, he replied, “I like the set-up here. Lots of trades, and the vendors have fair prices. Overall, I like the event. It’s nice to be here with my friends.” Duelists frequently have a great time traveling to tournaments with friends, and Jon Ramos is no exception.

First Timer Gajjar.

Neil Gajjar is 14 years old from South Carolina. He’s running a Blackwing Deck in his first-ever YCS. He’s been doing “a lot of trading and a lot of playing.” He told me that the turnout was bigger than he expected, and is having a great time so far.

First Timer Arrington.

Cody Arrington is 20 years old from Bamberg, Germany. He’s running an X-Saber Deck this weekend. “Right now, pretty much, it’s the best Deck. That and Quickdraw,” he said. “This is the largest thing I’ve ever been to. I’ve only been to 2 Regionals before this.” Good luck in the tournament Cody!

First Timer Johnson.

Brennen Johnson is 17 years old from Columbia, South Carolina. He’s running a burn Deck with Nurse Reficule the Fallen One in it. “It’s hilarious when I face my opponent and they lose before they can even play anything,” he told me. When I asked him about the tournament, he replied, “It’s a lot bigger than anything I’ve been to. I’ve only been to Regionals. It’s not as hot here, either, since everyone’s not crowded into a small space.” Brennen is having a great time playing and trading. “I got a few trades I needed for different Decks. I’m a Deckbuilder.” Holding up his Burn Deck, he added, “This is just my favorite one.” Take a look at Brennen, holding up his Nurse Reficule.

First Timer Donck-Rains.

Jesse Donck-Rains is 10 years old from Georgia. He’s running Gladiator Beasts in the tournament this weekend. “I just like them,” he told me. “No reason.” Gladiator Beast Bestiari is his favorite Gladiator. When I asked him for his thoughts about the tournament, he answered, “It’s what I expected. We just registered, but I’m already having a good time.” His mother added in, “He’s been waiting for something like this since he was 6. He usually plays with his friends.” Take a look at Jesse, holding up his favorite Gladiator Beast!

Duelists came from all over to compete in this final YCS of the year, and they’re having a great time! Any Duelist can become a YCS Champion, so even if you’ve never been to one before, you should take the opportunity if one comes near you. And best of luck in all your Duels!
