Round 3 Feature Match: Billy Alexander vs. Honorable Marquis Johnson
Billy Alexander traveled here this weekend from Wichita, Kansas. This thirty-seven year-old Duelist is competing here this weekend with a Plant Synchro variant, packed with tech. His opponent is seventeen year-old Marquis Johnson, one of several undefeated Duelists that teamed up to create yet another different take on Samurais. This one, also piloted by Duelists like Billy Brake and Joseph Vasquez, runs Legendary Six Samurai – Shinai and Legendary Six Samurai – Mizuho. Let’s see how this Match plays out!
Alexander started us off by Summoning Lonefire Blossom. He Tributed it to Special Summon another, then Tributed that to Special Summon Mystic Tomato from his Deck. He Set a Spell or Trap,
Johnson started with a hand of Seven Tools of the Bandit, Shien’s Smoke Signal, Monster Reborn, Gateway of the Six, Kagemusha of the Six Samurai, and Solemn Warning. He activated Smoke Signal; grabbed Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki from his Deck; and activated Gateway. He Normal Summoned Kageki, Special Summoned Kagemusha, and Alexander cleared the field with Torrential Tribute. Johnson pressed on: he activated Monster Reborn, brought back Kageki, and then removed 4 of his 6 Bushido Counters from Gateway to get Grandmaster of the Six Samurai from his Deck. He Special Summoned it, got Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan from his Deck with Gateway, and Special Summoned that as well. He Tuned Kagemusha and Kizan for Naturia Barkion, then attacked with Grandmaster and Barkion to drop Alexander to 3400 Life Points. Alexander responded by Special Summoning Tragoedia with its effect. Marquis Set his remaining 2 cards to his back row to finish out a tremendous first turn.
Alexander drew to 4 cards, controlling Tragoedia. He activated Dark Hole, destroyed Grandmaster and Barkion, and Grandmaster’s effect let Johnson return Kagemusha back to his hand. Alexander tried to Summon Lyla, but lost out to Solemn Warning. That left him with exactly 5 cards to return to his deck with Pot of Avarice! He drew 2 cards and ended his turn.
Johnson drew Mystical Space Typhoon. He Summoned Kagemusha, Set Typhoon, and used his 4 Bushido Counters to get Kizan from his Deck. He Special Summoned it, attacked, and made direct attacks with both monsters to drop Alexander to 1200 Life Points. He then Tuned both Samurai together to Synchro Summon Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Alexander conceded on the following turn with a hand of Tuners.
Marquis Johnson scores a big opening, overcoming both Torrential Tribute and Dark Hole to flood the field with Samurais!
Alexander opened the second Duel with Charge of the Light Brigade, sending Dimensional Prison, Lonefire Blossom, and Call of the Haunted to his Graveyard to get Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress. He Summoned her, then Set 2 cards to his back row.
Johnson had 2 Solemn Warnings, Six Samurai United, Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan, Legendary Six Samurai – Shinai, and Double-Edged Sword Technique. He activated United, Normal Summoned Shinai, and Alexander gave a deep sigh before negating the Summon with Solemn Judgment. “Omigosh,” responded Alexander. “The blue and the red ones…” That left Johnson to set 3 cards to his back row.
Alexander destroyed 1 Warning with Lyla’s effect next turn, but when he activated Monster Reborn to try and get back his Lonefire Blossom, Reborn was negated by the other Warning. In his End Phase, Lyla’s effect sent Alexander’s Lava Golem, Dandylion, and Torrential Tribute off the top of his Deck to his Graveyard.
Johnson drew Grandmaster! He Normal Summoned Kizan, Special Summoned Grandmaster, and sent United to the Graveyard to draw 2 cards: Kagemusha of the Six Samurai and Gateway. Enemy Controller turned Grandmaster to Defense Position to let Alexander block its attack, but Lyla was destroyed in battle.
Alexander Tributed his 2 Fluff Tokens to Tribute Summon Tragoedia! He attacked Grandmaster to destroy it. But Johnson Summoned Kagemusha next turn and activated Double-Edged Sword Technique. Alexander immediately conceded, as Johnson Special Summoned Shinai and Grandmaster.
Chalk up another win for the Six Samurai, as Marquis Johnson takes a 2-0 victory over Billy Alexander for his third victory of the day!
