Round 7 Feature Match: Honorable Bobby Chambers vs. Honorable Shay Kelly

February 12th, 2011

Honorable Bobby Chambers and Honorable Shay Kelley are both seated at Table 1, and are both playing Six Samurai!

Chambers opened with a hand of Hand of the Six Samurai, Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan, Mystical Space Typhoon, Royal Oppression, Upstart Goblin, and Book of Moon. He activated Upstart, giving his opponent 1000 Life Points and drawing Kagemusha of the Six Samurai. He Set Oppression, Typhoon, and Book.

Kelley activated Six Samurai United and Gateway of the Six, the kind of opening Samurai Duelists dream of, but that have proven to be rare in today’s tournament! He Summoned Hand, lost Gateway to Chambers’ Mystical Space Typhoon, and tried to Special Summon Kizan. Chambers negated the Summon with Royal Oppression, paying 800 Life Points. Kelley Set 2 cards to his back row.

Chambers Summoned Kizan and attacked into Book of Moon.

Play was back to Kelley, who got Kagemusha from his Deck with Shien’s Smoke Signal, then sent his United to the Graveyard to draw 2 cards. He tried to Special Summoned another Kizan, Chambers paid 800 Life Points to Chain Royal Oppression’s effect, and Kelley Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Oppression and save his Kizan. He then Normal Summoned Kagemusha, forcing Chambers to turn it face-down with Book of Moon to prevent a Synchro Summon. Hand attacked to destroy Chambers’ Kizan, and Kelley’s Kizan made a direct attack.

Chambers drew Gateway of the Six! He activated it, then Normal Summoned Kagemusha. He followed it up by Special Summoning Kizan, and used Gateway to get Grandmaster of the Six Samurai from his Deck, which he Special Summoned. He Tuned Kizan and Kagemusha to Synchro Summon Naturia Barkion. It attacked to destroy Hand, and Grandmaster destroyed Kagemusha.

Kelly drew to 1 card in hand, with a card Set in his back row and Kizan on the field. He turned Kizan to Defense Position.

Chambers Summoned Hand of the Six Samurai, got a Kizan with his Gateway, and Special Summoned Kizan. He started counting up the damage he could do this turn, but couldn’t finish it off yet. Hand attacked Kelley’s Kizan, and Barkion, Grandmaster, and Chambers’ Kizan all made direct attacks. Kelley got to see another turn, but there was no escaping the army of Samurai Chambers had amassed, and Kelley conceded the first Duel.

Honorable Shay Kelley comes out strong, but Honorable Bobby Chambers hits his stride in the mid-game and works from there to take a decisive victory. But with Decks this explosive, and Duelists this strong, anything can happen – Chambers might still have his work cut out for him.

Kelley started the second Duel with Gateway of the Six and 3 Set cards to his Spell and Trap Card Zone.

Chambers had Chain Disappearance, Gateway of the Six, Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan, Dark Hole, Shien’s Smoke Signal, and Six Samurai United. He activated United, followed up a moment later with Gateway, and used Smoke Signal to go get Kagemusha of the Six Samurai. He Set Chain Disappearance, and after a little hesitation Summoned Kagemusha. Both Duelists placed Bushido Counters on their Gateways (and in Chambers’ case, his United), but when Chambers Special Summoned Kizan Kelley destroyed Chambers’ Gateway with Mystical Space Typhoon. That left Chambers to draw 2 cards with United, and he got Upstart Goblin and Book of Moon. The Upstart got him Grandmaster, which he Special Summoned. Chambers Tuned Kizan and Kagemusha to try and Synchro Summon Naturia Barkion, but Kelley shut him down with Solemn Warning. Grandmaster made a direct attack, and Chambers Set another Spell or Trap.

Kelley removed 4 of his 6 Bushido Counters from his Gateway to get Kagemusha from his Deck. He tried to Normal Summon it, and when Chambers responded with Chain Disappearance Kelley Chained Book of Moon to turn his Kagemusha face-down and keep it on the field! That put Kelley’s Gateway back to 4 Bushido Counters, so he searched a Kizan from his Deck. Monster Reborn let him Special Summon Chamber’s Kagemusha, but when it hit play Chambers turned it face-down with Book.

Chambers drew Kageki, holding Dark Hole in-hand with Grandmaster face-up. Chambers destroyed his own Kagemusha with Grandmaster, then Set Kageki.

Kelley activated Reinforcement of the Army next turn to get Hand from his Deck, and Summoned a Kageki of his own. He Special Summoned Hand, Flip Summoned Kagemusha, and used Gateway to get Grandmaster from his Deck. He Special Summoned Grandmaster, got Kizan, and Tuned Kagemusha to Kageki for Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En. He then Special Summoned Kizan, Tributing it to Hand to destroy Chambers’ Kageki. Moments later, another Kizan sealed the Duel.

Honorable Shay Kelley explodes out of a monster-deprived opening to devastate Honorable Bobby Chambers in the second Duel, as Gateway of the Six brings monster, after monster, after monster to Kelley’s hand. The next Duel would decide the victor, and the winner here would have an undefeated 7-0 record.

Chambers opened the final Duel with Grandmaster of the Six Samurai, Book of Moon, Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan, Chain Disappearance, and 2 Gateways of the Six Samurai! He activated both Gateways; Normal summoned Kizan, and Special Summoned Grandmaster for a total of 8 Bushido Counters! He removed 4 to search out another Kizan, Special Summoning it, and then searched out his third Kizan. He Special Summoned that too, getting Hand of the Six Samurai and Kagemusha of the Six Samurai from his Deck. He Set Book and Chain Disappearance to finish out, with a total of 10 cards: 4 on-field monsters, 4 Spells or Traps, and 2 monsters in-hand.

But Kelley had Dark Hole! It destroyed all 3 Kizans and Grandmaster. Chambers returned Grandmaster to his hand with its effect. Kelley activated Reinforcement of the Army; got Kagemusha from his Deck; and activated Gateway. He Set a monster, then Set 2 more cards to his back row.

Chambers drew Six Samurai United, activating it before Summoning Kagemusha. Kelley turned it face-down with Book of Moon, leaving Chambers to remove 4 Bushido Counters from his Gateways to go get Kagemusha. He sent his United to the Graveyard for a single draw – Shien’s Smoke Signal – and Set a Spell or Trap to end.

Kelley Flip Summoned Kagemusha, and Special Summoned Kizan to get his Gateway up to 4 Bushido Counters. He removed them all to fetch Grandmaster from his Deck and Special Summoned it, tuning Kagemusha to Grandmaster for Black Rose Dragon to clear the field! He had to get rid of those Gateways, and Black Rose was the only out he had. Kelley had just 1 card left, while Chambers had 3, but Kelly’s card was Monster Reborn! It brought back his Grandmaster for a direct attack. Would it be enough?

Clearly not: Chambers topdecked his last Gateway! He had Kagemusha, Grandmaster, and Hand, so he Normal summoned Kagemusha, Special Summoned Grandmaster, and used his Gateway to get back a Kizan from his Graveyard! He Special Summoned that too: the Duel stood at 8000 Life Points to 5900 with Kelley leading, but not for long. Chambers Tuned Kagemusha and Kizan to Synchro Summon Naturia Barkion; ran over Kelley’s Grandmaster; and made a direct attack with his own. Kelly destroyed Barkion with Smashing Ground next turn, but Hand and another Kizan sealed the Match on the following turn!

Honorable Bobby Chambers makes an amazing opening with double Gateway, and when Honorable Shay Kelley fights back to equalize the Duel, Chambers grabs his third Gateway right off the top! It was insult to injury – Chambers still had a commanding position without the topdeck – but the third Gateway just made it all the more spectacular. Honorable Bobby Chambers remains undefeated!
