Round 9 Feature Match: Honorable Rudy Monoz vs. Glenn Robinson
Honorable Rudy Monoz and Glenn Robinson are seated at Table 3. Both of these competitors are 7-1, and both are Dueling in this round to jockey for a great position in the final Swiss Rounds tomorrow. Robinson is playing X-Sabers with Forbidden Lance, while Monoz is running Samurai.
Robinson opened with a hand of Forbidden Lance, Pot of Duality, Solemn Warning, Book of Moon, X-Saber Pashuul, and XX-Saber Emmersblade. He activated Duality, revealing Thunder King Rai-Oh, XX-Saber Faultroll and Monster Reborn from the top of his Deck: he added Faultroll to his hand. He Summoned XX-Saber Emmersblade, then Set 2 cards to his back row.
Monoz activated Giant Trunade, and followed up with Shien’s Smoke Signal to get Kagemusha of the Six Samurai from his Deck. He destroyed Emmersblade with Dark Hole; Normal Summoned Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki; and Special Summoned Kagemusha to Synchro Summon Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En. Shi En attacked and Monoz Set a Spell or Trap.
Robinson drew Trap Stun; Set it; and Set 3 more cards to his back row. He Set Pashuul to end.
Monoz sent Shi En to attack and reveal Pashuul, and Set another Spell or Trap.
Robinson drew Book of Moon and Set it.
Monoz drew for his Draw Phase, and Robinson took 1000 damage from Pashuul. Monoz Set another Spell or Trap.
Robinson activated Book of Moon to target Shi En, and Monoz negated it with Shi En’s effect. That let Robinson activated Trap Stun, resolved it, and Normal Summoned Emmersblade. Monoz responded with Book of Moon, tring to turn Pashuul face-down, and Robinson Chained Forbidden Lance to keep it face-up. That let him Special Summon XX-Saber Faultroll, bringing back his first Emmersblade with Faultroll’s effect. He Tuned Pashuul to Faultroll for Colossal Fighter. Emmersblade attacked into Shi En, and Robinson Special Summoned XX-Saber Fulhelmknight. Colossal Fighter attacked to destroy Shi En, and Emmersblade and Fulhelmknight each made direct attacks for a total of 2600 Battle Damage. In Main Phase 2 Robinson Tuned Fulhelmknight to Emmersblade for XX-Saber Hyunlei, destroying Monoz’s Set Solemn Warning and Double-Edged Sword Technique!
Monoz drew to 2 cards with an empty field. Robinson had Colossal Fighter, Hyunlei, and 2 Set cards in his Spell and Trap Card Zone. Monoz Set a monster.
Robinson drew Dark Hole, attacked with Hyunlei to destroy Monoz’s Set Kageki, and Colossal Fighter attacked for 3500 Battle Damage. Monoz dropped to 1200 Life Points and conceded on the next turn.
Monoz started the second Duel with Shien’s Smoke Signal to get Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki from his Deck. He Summoned it; Special Summoned Kagemusha of the Six Samurai; and Synchro Summoned Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En. He Set 4 cards to his back row to back it up.
Robinson had Thunder King Rai-Oh, Puppet Plant, X-Saber Pashuul, XX-Saber Fulhelmknight, XX-Saber Boggart Knight, and Cold Wave. He took control of Shi En with Puppet Plant, then Normal Summoned Pashuul. He tuned Pashuul to Shi En for Black Rose Dragon, but Monoz negated the Summon with Solemn Warning.
Monoz activated Double-Edged Sword Technique to Special Summon back his Kageki and Kagemusha. He Synchro Summoned another Shi En, and attacked for 2500 Battle Damage.
Robinson drew and Set XX-Saber Darksoul.
Monoz activated another Smoke Signal, getting Hand of the Six Samurai. He Summoned it, Tributed it, and destroyed Darksoul. Shi En attacked again; Monoz Set a Spell or Trap; and Robinson got XX-Saber Faultroll from his Deck with Darksoul’s effect.
Robinson drew another Faultroll! He had the Cold Wave, but Shi En was pinning him down: he didn’t have another Spell Card to draw out Shi En’s negation.
Monoz passed.
Robinson topdecked Giant Trunade! He activated Cold Wave; Shi En negated it; and Giant Trunade cleared the field! Robinson played all his cards! He Flip Summoned Thunder King; Normal Summoned Boggart Knight; Special Summoned Faultroll; and then Special Summoned another Faultroll! He Tuned Fulhelmknight to Thunder King for X-Saber Urbellum, and moments later controlled Urbellum, Scrap Dragon, a Faultroll, and Boggart Knight for victory!
