YCS Dallas First-Timers!

February 14th, 2011

This will be the final YCS before the March 2011 Forbidden & Limited Cards List shakes up the Dueling world. It’s every Duelist’s last chance to earn a YCS title under the September 2010 List, and many veteran Duelists flew out to Texas for one last shot at that victory. A huge turnout of over 1100 Duelists were in fierce competition at the main event.

But for many of the Duelists in attendance, today is a first chance to compete in a YCS. Tons of the Duelists in contention this weekend have never competed in a high-level Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME event before, but brought out their best cards to create a tournament experience that they’ll never forget. Let’s meet some of those YCS first-timers!

Rylan.

11-year-old local Rylan Dunham is running a Burn Deck in today’s tournament. His favorite monster in it is Ultimate Baseball Kid, because of how quickly it can gain ATK. When I asked him what he’s expecting from the tournament, he answered, “I’ll probably Duel against Infernity Decks. Infernity Decks are evil.” He faces Infernity Decks all the time at his local tournament, and has a tough time against them. But not even the most malicious Infernity monsters will stop Rylan from enjoying his weekend of Dueling!

1stTimer-2.

11-year-old Jacob Crusan from Shreveport, Louisiana is running a Gladiator Beast Deck this weekend. His favorite Gladiator Beast is Gladiator Beast Bestiari, because “it gets out Gyzarus.” He said he’s having a great time here, and will be entering the Dragon Duels so that he can compete against a smaller number of players around his own age.

<Dragon Duel Tournaments are for Duelists age 12 and under only. You can find a Dragon Duel at big events like the Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series, but sometimes a Regional event near you will have one too. Check the Events web page for more information!>.

Colby.

11-year-old Brenden Williams is from Justin, Texas. He’s running a combo Deck filled with Fusion and Synchro Monsters, his favorite of which is Red Nova Dragon, just like his friend Colby. When I asked him how it feels to be here, he said “I’m really excited! This is my first one.” He’s been looking forward to it for a long time. Unlike his friend Colby, Brendan’s favorite Aesir is Odin, Father of the Aesir

12-year-old Colby Phillips is also from Justin, Texas. He’s running an Elemental Hero Deck that can Synchro Summon Synchro Monsters. Red Nova Dragon is his favorite. “I’ve figured out an ultimate play to get it out. That, and my Red Dragon Archfiend, at the same time!” Colby thinks the competition will be fierce, but is very excited to be Dueling all day! Colby also told me that his favorite Aesir is Thor, Lord of the Aesir.

Jordan.

11-year-old Jordan Thrasher is also from Justin, Texas. He’s running an all-around Deck, filled with his best cards. Raviel, Lord of Phantasms is his favorite monster among them. “My favorite Aesir is Loki, Lord of the Aesir,” he told me. “We all have different favorites!”
