Round 3: Scrapper Kay Shim VS Tombkeeper Christopher Reitz
Kay Shim is currently undefeated with his Scrap Deck that runs Forbidden Lance for protection from Bottomless Trap Hole and Dimensional Prison.. His opponent, Christopher Reitz, is also undefeated, with a traditional Gravekeeper’s Deck. Necrovalley’s ability to shut down the effect of Scrap Chimera may make this a difficult Matchup for Shim, but if Shim can take down enough of Reitz’s Necrovalleys one at a time with the effects of cards like Scrap Dragon, he may be able to pull ahead.
Shim opened up with Scrap Chimera, Effect Veiler, 2 copies of Scrap Goblin, Mind Control, and Dark Hole. He Set Scrap Goblin and ended his turn.
Reitz Set 2 cards to his back row and passed.
Shim drew Solemn Warning next turn. He passed without making a play.
Reitz discarded Gravekeeper’s Commandant from his hand to search his Deck for Necrovalley and add it to his hand. He activated the Necrovalley and then Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Assailant. Reitz declared an attack with Gravekeeper’s Assailant, and struck into Shim’s face-down Scrap Goblin, which survived the battle.
Shim drew Scrap Beast next turn. He activated Mind Control to take control of Gravekeeper’s Assailant, and as soon as he gained control of it, Reitz activated Compulsory Evacuation Device to return the Assailant to his hand. Shim Set Solemn Warning and Scrap Beast before ending his turn.

Reitz flipped Gravekeeper’s Spy next turn, and when Shim tried to negate the Flip Summon with Solemn Warning, Reitz flipped Seven Tools of the Bandit and paid 1000 Life Points to negate the Solemn Warning. Spy’s effect activated to Special Summon Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from Reitz’s Deck in Attack Position, and then Reitz Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Assailant. Recruiter attacked Shim’s Defense Position Scrap Goblin, and then Spy attacked it. Finally Gravekeeper’s Assailant attacked and destroyed Shim’s Defense Position Scrap Chimera. The Goblin was destroyed at the end of the Battle Phase but its effect couldn’t retrieve a Scrap Monster from the Graveyard since Necrovalley was on the field.
Shim drew Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter next turn and then activated Dark Hole, wiping the field clear! The effect of Reitz’s Recruiter activated, and he grabbed another one from his Deck. Shim Set his freshly drawn Ryko and ended his turn.
Reitz activated Gravekeeper’s Stele to grab Gravekeeper’s Commandant and Gravekeeper’s Assailant from his Graveyard. Then he pitched the Commandant to grab another copy of Necrovalley, and Set a monster.
Shim flipped Ryko next turn and activated its effect to destroy Reitz’s Necrovalley. Then he Summoned Scrap Chimera and used the Chimera’s effect to Special Summon Scrap Beast from his Graveyard. He Tuned the Beast with his Chimera to Synchro Summon Scrap Dragon, and used the Dragon’s effect to destroy Shim’s Ryko and Reitz’s face-down Mirror Force. Shim drew Scrapstorm and Set it.
Reitz attacked directly with Gravekeeper’s Descendant and Set a monster. Shim drew Mystical Space Typhoon next turn and conceded, with only 2000 Life Points remaining.
A strong play with Solemn Judgment wrests control from Kay Shim, and allows Christopher Reitz to win the Duel despite losing 2 copies of Necrovalley!
Shim opened up Duel 2 with Seven Tools of the Bandit, Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, Scrap Beast, Puppet Plant, and 2 copies of Scrapstorm. He Set Seven Tools of the Bandit and then Normal Summoned Scrap Beast. Reitz activated Necrovalley and then Set a monster along with 2 cards to his back row. Next, he activated Royal Tribute, revealing Necrovalley from his own hand and forcing Shim to discard his entire hand of 4 cards, consisting of Scrap Chimera, Puppet Plant, Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, and Effect Veiler! Reitz played another copy of Necrovalley and then Set a third card to his back row before passing to Shim.

He Tuned his 2 monsters together to Synchro Summon Scrap Dragon, then attacked into Reitz’s face-down Gravekeeper’s Spy, allowing Reitz to Special Summon Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from his Deck in Defense Position. He attacked Gravekeeper’s Recruiter with Scrap Dragon, and when Reitz activated Dimensional Prison, Shim Chained Seven Tools of the Bandit to negate the Dimensional Prison and make sure the attack went through. Reitz added another copy of Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from his Deck to his hand with the effect of the Recruiter that was just destroyed. Reitz used Solemn Warning to prevent Scrap Dragon from Special Summoning a new Scrap monster to the field with its effect, and then Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Recruiter to the field. The Recruiter attacked Shim directly, dropping him down to 1100 Life Points.
Shim drew Solemn Warning next turn. With only 1100 Life Points remaining, it would be no help. He tried to Special Summon Cyber Dragon to the field to attack over Reitz’s Gravekeeper’s Recruiter, but Reitz flipped Solemn Warning to negate its Summon! Shim conceded, unable to withstand another attack from Gravekeeper’s Recruiter. (Solemn Warning costs 2000 Life Points.)
After a powerful play with Royal Tribute forces Kay Shim to discard 4 cards in Duel 2, Christopher Reitz is able to triumph in a 2-0 victory for Gravekeeper’s!
