Round 5: Reanimator Jibri Thomas vs. Dragoon Jose Mejia

March 20th, 2011

Jibri Thomas is currently undefeated with a Lightsworn Zombie Deck that runs Infernity Avenger. His opponent, Jose Mejia, is undefeated with Dragunities. Thomas’s Deck is explosive enough to deal over 8000 damage in a single turn, but Mejia’s Deck can spit out Level 8 Synchro Monsters each turn.Watch out for the crazy combos both of these Decks can pull off!

Thomas opened up with Pot of Duality; Solar Recharge; Card Trooper; Giant Trunade; and 2 copies of Reckless Greed. He activated Pot of Duality, revealing Reckless Greed, Solar Recharge, and Book of Life from the top of his Deck. He added Reckless Greed to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Then he Summoned Card Trooper and sent Pot of Duality, Call of the Haunted, and Card Trooper from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with its effect to boost it to 1900 ATK. Thomas Set 3 copies of Reckless Greed before ending his turn. (Reckless Greed is a Trap that lets you draw 2 cards, but you have to skip yout next 2 Draw Phases. Even if you use 3 at once, you only skip 2 Draw Phases.)

Mejia started things off by activating Terraforming to search his Deck for Dragon Ravine and activating it. He pitched Dragunity Aklys from his hand to send Dragunity Phalanx from his Deck to his Graveyard with the effect of the Ravine. Then he Normal Summoned Dragunity Dux, and used its effect to attach a Phalanx to it. He Special Summoned Phalanx and Tuned it with Dux to Synchro Summon Dragunity Knight – Vajrayana. Then he used Vajrayana’s effect to equip it with Phalanx, and Special Summoned Phalanx to the field. He Tuned Phalanx with Vajrayana to Synchro Summon Thought Ruler Archfiend. Thought Ruler Archfiend attacked and destroyed Card Trooper, dealing 2300 points of damage to Thomas and giving Mejia 400 additional Life Points thanks to Thought Ruler’s effect. Mejia Set a card to his back row and passed. (You gain Life Points equal to the ATK of any monster Thought Ruler Archfiend destroys in battle.)

Thomas activated 3 copies of Reckless Greed next turn to draw Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter; Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner; Monster Reborn; Dark Armed Dragon; Charge of the Light Brigade; and Book of Life. He activated Giant Trunade to return Mejia’s face-down card and Dragon Ravine to his hand. Then he activated Charge of the Light Brigade and sent Goblin Zombie, Necro Gardna, and Chaos Sorcerer from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to search his Deck for Lyla to add to his hand. Since he sent 3 DARK monsters to his Graveyard with Charge, he Special Summoned Dark Armed Dragon from his hand. Then he activated Solar Recharge, pitching Lyla to draw Dark Hole and Infernity Avenger while sending 2 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Then he activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Dragunity Phalanx from Mejia’s Graveyard, and activated Book of Life to Special Summon Goblin Zombie from his Graveyard. He Tuned Goblin Zombie with Dragunity Phalanx to Synchro Summon Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, and searched his Deck for Mezuki with the effect of Goblin Zombie when it hit the Graveyard. Thomas pitched Mezuki from his hand with the effect of Brionac to send Thought Ruler Archfiend back to Mejia’s Extra Deck, and then Normal Summoned Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner. He activated Lumina’s effect by discarding Infernity Avenger from his hand, in order to Special Summon Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress in Attack Position. Then he removed Ryko and Chaos Sorcerer from his Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Sorcerer from his hand. Direct attacks from Lumina, Lyla, Brionac, Chaos Sorcerer, and Dark Armed Dragon wiped out all 8400 of Mejia’s Life Points!

An explosive opening with 3 copies of Reckless Greed allows Jibri Thomas to wipe out more than 8000 Life Points in a single turn! Another hand like that and Thomas will secure a quick 2-0 victory!

Mejia started off Duel 2 by activating Cards of Consonance to pitch Dragunity Aklys from his hand and draw 2 cards. Then he Normal Summoned Dragunity Dux and used its effect to equip it with Aklys. Mejia Set 4 cards to his back row and ended his turn. (Cards of Consonance lets you discard a Dragon-Type Tuner with 1000 or less ATK to draw 2 cards.)

Thomas opened up with Pot of Duality; Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner; Chaos Sorcerer; Allure of Darkness; Dark Hole; and Mezuki. He activated Pot of Duality first, revealing Deck Devastation Virus, Foolish Burial, and Burial from a Different Dimension from the top of his Deck. He added Foolish Burial to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, Thomas activated Dark Hole to destroy Dragunity Dux and the Aklys went down with it. Thomas Summoned Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner next, and Mejia flipped Torrential Tribute to destroy Lumina. Thomas ended his turn without any cards on the field.

Mejia Summoned Dragunity Legionnaire next turn, and used its effect to equip it with the Aklys he had in the Graveyard.

Thomas Set Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter next turn.

Mejia Normal Summoned Dragunity Militum and used its effect to Special Summon Aklys from his Spell and Trap Card Zone. Then he Tuned Aklys with Militum to Synchro Summon Dragunity Knight – Vajrayana, and used Vajrayana’s effect to equip it with Aklys. He sent Aklys to the Graveyard to double Vajrayana’s ATK, and then the effect of Aklys destroyed Thomas’s face-down Ryko. Vajrayana and Dragunity Legionnaire attacked directly, dropping Thomas down to 1800 Life Points.

Thomas drew Solemn Warning next turn. He activated Foolish Burial to send Necro Gardna from his Deck to his Graveyard, and then removed Necro Gardna and Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner from his Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Sorcerer. He activated the effect of Chaos Sorcerer to remove Vajrayana from the Duel, and Mejia Chained Bottomless Trap Hole to remove Chaos Sorcerer from the Duel. Thomas Summoned Mezuki, Set Solemn Warning, and ended his turn.

Mejia activated Terraforming to search his Deck for a copy of Dragon Ravine to add to his hand, then switched Dragunity Legionnaire to Defense Position.

Thomas drew Solar Recharge next turn. He attacked with Mezuki and Mejia activated Dimensional Prison to stop the attack and remove Mezuki from the Duel. Thomas Set Solar Recharge before trying to end his turn, but in his End Phase, Mejia flipped Icarus Attack and Tributed his Dragunity Legionnaire to destroy the last 2 cards remaining on Thomas’s field. Mejia instantly conceded.

Jose Mejia takes a commanding victory over Jibri Thomas in Duel 2, as Thomas struggles to assemble a field of monsters. Jibri Thomas will be going first in Duel 3!

Thomas opened up with Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter Allure of Darkness; Solemn Warning; Dark Hole; and 2 copies of Chaos Sorcerer. He activated Allure of Darkness to draw Goblin Zombie and Burial from a Different Dimension from the top of his Deck and then removed a copy of Chaos Sorcerer from his hand with Allure’s effect. He Set Ryko and Solemn Warning before passing to Mejia.

Mejia Summoned Dragunity Militum and attacked Thomas’s Set Ryko with it. Ryko destroyed Militum and sent Pot of Duality, Glow-Up Bulb, and Reckless Greed from the top of Thomas’s Deck to his Graveyard.

Thomas Summoned Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress next turn, and activated its effect to switch it to Defense Position and destroy Mejia’s Set Dark Hole. In his End Phase, Thomas sent another copy of Lyla, a Card Trooper, and a Dark Armed Dragon from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard with Lyla’s effect. (Most Lightsworn monsters have effects that send cards from your Deck to the Graveyard during your End Phase. Be careful how you use them!)

Mejia Summoned another copy of Dragunity Militum next turn and used it to attack and destroy Lyla. He ended his turn without a back row and with only a Militum on the field.

Thomas drew Foolish Burial next turn. He activated it to send Plaguespreader Zombie from his Deck to his Graveyard and then moved Dark Hole from his hand to the top of his Deck to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie from his Graveyard. He Normal Summoned Goblin Zombie next, and Tuned it with Plaguespreader Zombie to Synchro Summon Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier. Plaguespreader Zombie was removed from the Duel. Next, he used his Goblin Zombie’s effect to search his Deck for Mezuki and add it to his hand. He pitched the Mezuki to return Dragunity Militum to Mejia’s hand by activating Brionac’s effect, and then removed Mezuki from the Duel to Special Summon Goblin Zombie from his Graveyard. He activated Burial from a Different Dimension next, returning Mezuki and Plaguespreader Zombie to his Graveyard. Then Thomas activated the effect of Glow-Up Bulb, sending a Trap Card from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to Special Summon it. Next, he Tuned Glow-Up Bulb with Goblin Zombie to Synchro Summon Magical Android. Then he removed Mezuki from his Graveyard to Special Summon Goblin Zombie in Attack Position. Next, he put a card in his hand on top of his Deck to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie back from the Graveyard. He Tuned Plaguespreader Zombie with Goblin Zombie to Synchro Summon Revived King Ha Des, and used Goblin Zombie’s effect to search his Deck for a Zombie Master to add to his hand after the Zombie hit the Graveyard. Finally, Thomas Special Summoned Chaos Sorcerer, and declared direct attacks with Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier, Chaos Sorcerer, Magical Android, and Revived King Ha Des, wiping out all 8000 of Mejia’s Life Points!

Two explosive hands give Jibri Thomas a quick win over Jose Mejia’s Dragunities, allowing him to advance in the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record! A few more matches like this and we’ll be seeing a Lightsworn Zombie Deck make it to Day 2!
