Saturday’s Dragon Duel Finals: Tombkeeper-Initiate Tony Houston vs. Appretice Dragontamer Grayson Scott

11-year-old Tony Houston is currently 5-0 in the Dragon Duels and is the only undefeated Duelist left in the tournament. He made it here with his Gravekeeper’s Deck, and this is his first YCS ever. He’s looking to turn his first YCS experience into a Dragon Duel victory. But his opponent, 12-year-old Grayson Scott, won’t make that easy for him. Scott is using a Dragon Deck that rushes big Dragons onto the field to overwhelm opponents. Both of these Duelists have some experience at the Regional level, but since this is the first YCS for both of them, they’re really looking to make this Match count!

Houston opened up Duel 1 with Necrovalley, Bottomless Trap Hole, Spirit Reaper, Gravekeeper’s Spy, Gravekeeper’s Recruiter, and Gravekeeper’s Commandant. He Set Spirit Reaper and Bottomless Trap Hole before ending his first turn.

Scott activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Houston’s Bottomless Trap Hole and then activated Gold Sarcophagus to remove Future Fusion from his Deck so that he could add it to his hand 2 turns later. He Set 2 cards to his back row and then activated Dragon Ravine. He pitched Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon from his hand in order to send Red-Eyes Wyvern from his Deck to his Graveyard with the Ravine’s effect. In his End Phase, Scott removed his Wyvern from the Graveyard to Special Summon his Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon in Attack Position.

Houston drew Necrovalley next turn. He activated a copy of Necrovalley to rid the field of Scott’s Ravine and then Set Gravekeeper’s Spy.

Scott drew a card and passed his turn without making a play.

Houston drew Bottomless Trap Hole next turn. He tried to Flip Summon his Gravekeeper’s Spy, but Scott activated Solemn Warning to negate the Summon. Houston Set Bottomless Trap Hole and Gravekeeper’s Recruiter before ending his turn.

Scott added Future Fusion to his hand next turn thanks to the effect of Gold Sarcophagus. Then he activated Dark Hole, and Chained Forbidden Lance, targeting his Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon. His Dragon was saved by the Lance, and Houston’s Spirit Reaper and Gravekeeper’s Recruiter were destroyed by the Dark Hole. Houston grabbed another Recruiter from his Deck with the effect of his fallen one. Scott attacked with Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to drop Houston down to 6000 Life Points and then activated Future Fusion in Main Phase 2 to send Totem Dragon, Red-Eyes Wyvern, Prime Material Dragon, Delta Flyer, and Koa’ki Meiru Drago from his Deck to his Graveyard so that he’d be able to Summon Five-Headed Dragon 2 turns later.

Houston drew Book of Moon next turn. He Set it in his Spell and Trap Card Zone and Set a copy of Gravekeeper’s Recruiter and before ending his turn.

Scott Set a copy of Red-Eyes Wyvern and then attacked with Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to destroy Houston’s face-down Gravekeeper’s Recruiter in battle. Houston grabbed a Gravekeeper’s Descendant from his Deck with the effect of his Recruiter.

Houston drew Gravekeeper’s Stele next turn and activated it to move Gravekeeper’s Spy and Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from his Graveyard to his hand. Then he Set Gravekeeper’s Spy and ended his turn.

Scott Special Summoned Five-Headed Dragon off of Future Fusion in his next Standby Phase. Houston tried to use Bottomless Trap Hole to remove it from the Duel, but Scott flipped Solemn Judgment and gave up half of his Life Points to keep it on the field! Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon attacked Houston’s face-down Gravekeeper’s Spy next, destroying it in battle and allowing Houston to Special Summon Gravekeeper’s Assailant from his Deck in Defense Position with the Spy’s effect. Scott attacked the Assailant with Five-Headed Dragon next, and Houston flipped Book of Moon to put the Dragon face-down and protect his Assailant.

Houston drew another Gravekeeper’s monster next turn and then Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant. He Tributed Gravekeeper’s Assailant with its effect to destroy Five-Headed and then attacked Scott’s face-down Red-Eyes Wyvern, destroying it in a battle with his Descendant.

Scott activated the effect of his Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon next turn to Special Summon Vice Dragon from his hand, then attacked Gravekeeper’s Descendant with Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to destroy it, and attacked directly with Vice-Dragon.

Houston drew Dimensional Prison next turn. He Set it before Setting a copy of Gravekeeper’s Spy.

Scott activated Gold Sarcophagus on the following turn. He removed Giant Trunade from his Deck so that he’d be able to reclaim it 2 turns later. He attacked Houston’s face-down monster with Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon next, but Houston flipped Dimensional Prison to remove the Dragon from the Duel. Vice Dragon attacked the face-down Gravekeeper’s Spy next, flipping it face-up and allowing Houston to Special Summon Gravekeeper’s Descendant from his Deck. Scott also lost 500 Life Points from the exchange, dropping down to 2500 Life Points.

Houston drew Mystical Space Typhoon next turn. He Tributed his Gravekeeper’s Spy with the effect of Gravekeeper’s Descendant to destroy Vice Dragon, and then Normal Summoned Gravekeeper’s Recruiter from his hand. With only 2500 Life Points remaining, Scott was unable to withstand the attacks of Gravekeeper’s Recruiter and Gravekeeper’s Descendant. After 2 direct attacks, Scott dropped down to 0 Life Points and the Match moved on to Duel 2!

Tony Houston fights back against Five-Headed Dragon to win the first Duel! Grayson Scott will be going first in Duel 2!

Scott started things off by Setting 4 cards to his back row and Setting a monster.

Houston opened up with Royal Oppression, Solemn Judgment, Torrential Tribute, Cyber Dragon, Gravekeeper’s Spy, and Dimensional Prison. He Special Summoned Cyber Dragon and then attacked Scott’s face-down Totem Dragon, destroying it in battle. Houston Set his 4 Trap Cards and then ended his turn.

Scott activated Gold Sarcophagus next turn and removed a copy of Future Fusion from his Deck to so that he’d be able to reclaim it 2 turns later.

Houston drew Gravekeeper’s Commandant on the following turn and then attacked directly with Cyber Dragon, scoring 2100 points of damage. He sent Gravekeeper’s Commandant from his hand to his Graveyard in Main Phase 2 to search his Deck for Necrovalley and then activated it. Scott used Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy the Necrovalley, and Houston passed his turn.

Scott Set another card to his back row and then ended his turn.

Houston drew Seven Tools of the Bandit next turn. He attacked with Cyber Dragon, but lost his monster to Scott’s Mirror Force. He Set Seven Tools of the Bandit and then Set Gravekeeper’s Spy.

Scott added Future Fusion to his hand from the effect of Gold Sarcophagus, and then activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Houston’s Dimensional Prison.

Houston flipped Gravekeeper’s Spy and Scott activated Solemn Warning to try to negate the Summon, but Houston Chained Seven Tools of the Bandit to negate the Solemn Warning. Next, Scott tried to use Solemn Warning to negate the effect of Gravekeeper’s Spy by dropping himself down to 1900 Life Points, but Houston Chained Solemn Judgment and gave up 3500 Life Points to negate the Solemn Warning! Houston Special Summoned Gravekeeper’s Descendant from his Deck with the effect of his Spy and then attacked directly with his Descendant and Spy, wiping out all of Scott’s remaining Life Points!

Tony Houston defeats Grayson Scott in a 2-0 victory to win all 6 rounds of the Dragon Duels and become Saturday’s Dragon Duel Champion!
