A field of over 1000 Duelists has been trimmed to just 2: Sean Coovert with Six Samurai, versus Nicky Lacaille with Fish!  One of these Duelists was about to become a Dueling legend!

Coovert opened the Finals with a hand of 2 Kagemusha of the Six Samurai; Musakani Magatama; Dark Hole; Double-Edged Sword Technique; and Book of Moon.  He Set Kagemusha and 3 cards to his back row.

Lacaille activated Giant Trunade!  He discarded Swap Frog to Special Summon another, and sent Ronintoadin to his Graveyard from his Deck.  He removed Swap Frog to Special Summon Ronintoadin, then Tribute Summoned Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth!  He discarded Tragoedia and Special Summoned 2 Fishborg Blaster and 2 Oyster Meister.  He Tuned Fishborg to an Oyster Meister to Synchro Summon Armory Arm, then Special Summoned an Oyster Token.  He Tuned the other Fishborg to the Oyster Token, and drew a card with Formula Synchron.  He Tuned Synchron to the other Oyster Meister, and Synchro Summoned Sea Dragon Lord Gishilnodon.  He discarded Dupe Frog to Special Summon Fishborg Blaster, and Tuned it to another Oyster Token for another Formula Synchron and another draw.  Moments later Lacaille was Synchro Summoning Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier to bounce away Coovert’s Samurai and attack for game!

One big turn is all Nicky Lacaille needs to take the first Duel!  He was now just a single win away from leaving Charlotte a YCS winner, but Sean Coovert wasn’t going to make that easy.

Coovert opened with a hand of Six Samurai United; Double-Edged Sword Technique; D.D. Crow; Gorz the Emissary of Darkness; Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan; and Kagemusha of the Six Samurai.  He activated United, then Summoned Kagemusha and Kizan to draw Mystical Space Typhoon and Monster Reborn with United’s effect.  He Synchro Summoned Naturia Barkion, then Set Double-Edged Sword Technique and Typhoon.

Lacaille Set a monster.

Coovert drew Cyber Dragon.  He flipped Sword Technique to bring back Kagemusha and Kizan, then Synchro Summoned Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier!  He discarded Cyber Dragon to clear the field with Brionac’s effect, then attacked with both of his Synchro Monsters to drop Lacaille to 3200 Life Points.

Lacaille Set Treeborn Frog, then Tributed it for Enemy Controller.  He took control of Brionac, then discarded Fishborg Blaster to send Barkion back to Coovert’s Extra Deck.  He attacked with Brionac, and in Main Phase 2 he discarded Treeborn Frog to bounce away Coovert’s Mystical Space Typhoon.  He then discarded Snowman Eater to eliminate Brionac itself.

Coovert drew Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki.  He Special Summoned Kizan with Monster Reborn, then Normal Summoned Kageki.  Both monsters attacked to seal the Duel!

A solid opening leads to an aggressive pace for Sean Coovert, and while Lacaille makes some clever plays to rid the field of Coovert’s Synchro Monsters, it’s just not enough to stop Coovert’s attacks!  One more Duel will decide the winner of this tournament!

Lacaille passed his turn.

Coovert had a hand of Solemn Warning; Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan; Dark Hole; Cyber Dragon; Gorz the Emissary of Darkness; and Royal Oppression.  He Sumoned Kizan and atacked for 1800 Battle Damage: Lacaille Special Summoned Tragoedia from his hand.  Coovert destroyed Kizan and Tragoedia with Dark Hole, then Set Oppression and Warning.

Lacaille Summoned Oyster Meister and attacked for 1600 Battle Damage.  He Set a card to his back row.

Coovert drew Grandmaster of the Six Samurai and Special Summoned Cyber Dragon, attacking into Lacaille’s Enemy Controller.

Lacaille Set another monster, then turned Oyster Meister to Defense Position.

Coovert drew Mystical Space Typhoon and attacked Oyster Meister with Cyber Dragon, destroying it.  He Set Typhoon.

Lacaille passed.

Coovert drew Nobleman of Crossout and removed Lacaille’s Treeborn Frog from the Duel!  He attacked with Cyber Dragon, lowering Lacaille to 4100 Life Points.

Lacaille Set a Spell or Trap, then another: Coovert destroyed 1 of them, another Typhoon, with his own Typhoon in the End Phase.

Coovert drew Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki and attacked again with Cyber Dragon: Lacaille was down to 2000 Life Points.  It was now or never for the Fish Duelist.

Lacaille drew for his turn and started visibly weighing his options.  After much consideration, he discarded Ronintoadin to Special Summon Swap Frog: Coovert negated the Summon with Royal Oppression, and Lacaille didn’t have another Typhoon to Chain to it!  He removed Swap Frog to try and Special Summon Ronintoadin, and Coovert paid 800 Life Points to negate it.  Lacaille had 3 cards left in his hand, and 1 more Set in his back row.  He Set a monster.

Coovert drew another Cyber Dragon.  He Summoned Kageki and Lacaille had no response.  He tried to Special Summon Grandmaster, and Lacaille paid 800 Life Points to negate the Summon.  Coovert attacked with Cyber Dragon, but Lacaille blocked the attack with Enemy Controller. Cyber Dragon went to Defense Position.

Lacaille started running some numbers and considering his possible plays.  He Flip Summoned Oyster Meister, then activated the effect of Puppet Plant to take control of Kageki.  He tried to Tribute both for Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth, and when Coovert flipped Solemn Warning Lacaille immediately offered the handshake!
