YCS Charlotte First-Timers!
The first YCS under the March 2011 Forbidden & Limited List is sure to be a unique experience for everyone. Duelists everywhere are getting a fresh chance to put their Deckbuilding prowess to the test and compete with their inventions in a tournament whose environment is unprecedented. The Decks are diverse and competitors’ opinions vary when it comes to identifying the “Decks to beat”. Six Samurais, X-Sabers, Blackwings, Gladiator Beasts, and more, all have their loyal followers, and the total uncertainty about which Decks each Duelist will be facing this weekend makes this YCS an original experience for everyone.
But some of the Duelists here this weekend are competing in their first YCS ever. These YCS First-Timers are participating in one of the most exciting tournaments they have even been to, and experiencing a field of Decks that is unknown even to the most veteran players. YCS Charlotte is sure to be a memorable event for everyone, but let’s take a look at some of the YCS First-Timers who will never forget their experience here this weekend!
Brett Walker is 12 years old from Alabama. He’s running a Malefic Deck in today’s tournament. He’s been running it since even before he saw Paradox use the Malefics in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D movie. His favorite card in the Deck is Malefic Truth Dragon. “It has 5000 ATK, and its effect is awesome,” he told me. Brett is surprised by the number of competitors that are here today. Don’t worry Walker – I’m confident you can take them down with your tremendous monsters!
Johnny Trinh is 13 years old from Charlotte, North Carolina! He had a short drive here and is competing in the YCS with his Spellcaster Deck. He’s a little nervous about entering his first tournament ever, but he knows he’s going to have a great time. With the Dark Magician by his side, Trinh’s tournament experience is sure to rock!
Tommy Tran is 15 years old and also from Charlotte. He’s running a Warrior Deck today, in his first tournament ever. “I’m really excited about the tournament,” he told me. He’s thrilled about the number of competitors and excited to encounter new cards he hasn’t seen before. Check out Tommy Tran holding up his favorite Warrior-Type monster, Elemental Hero Neos!
Robert Johnson is 13 years old and just moved from Florida to North Carolina 2 weeks ago. He had to drive for about 2 hours to get here, but he says it was definitely worth it. “I like that there’s a lot of people here. It’s easier to get the cards you need, and it’s a great experience. It’s fun to meet new people, and I’ve already made a ton of friends!” Johnson is running Blackwings today in the tournament, with his favorite Blackwing monster, Blackwing Armor Master. Here’s a picture of Robert Johnson and his favorite Blackwing!
Nick Amber is 13 years old and living in North Carolina. He took a short trip to the tournament venue to compete in his first ever YCS! He’s running a Six Samurai Deck that he likes because so many of the cards in it are new. He was expecting a lot of people to show up, and the turnout met his expectations. “I love doing all the trading with everyone, I love using the vendors to buy cards, and I really like the Duel Terminal – we don’t have one around where I live,” he told me. Nick’s favorite Six Samurai is Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En. Here’s a picture of him holding it up!
All of today’s YCS first-timers are having a great time so far this weekend. They’re excited to be participating in their first ever YCS, and some of them are already looking forward to the next YCS that they can participate in! If a YCS comes to a city near you, you’ll be missing out if you don’t check it out.
