Round 10 Feature Match: Infernity Acepcion vs. Honorable Johnny Nguyen
Ed Acepcion and Johnny Nguyen are currently 7-2 in the tournament, heading into Round 10. Ed Acepcion lost our Round 3 Feature Match with his Infernity Randomizer Deck, but now he’s back to redeem himself in a Match against Johnny Nguyen’s Six Samurais! With just 2 more rounds remaining before the Top 32, both of these Duelists will need to victory here in order to have a chance at the top cut.
Nguyen started off the Match by activating Reinforcement of the Army to search his Deck for Kagemusha of the Six Samurai and add it to his hand. He Normal Summoned Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki and activated its effect to Special Summon Kagemusha, then Tuned Kageki with Kagemusha to Synchro Summon Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En. He Set 2 cards to his back row and ended his turn.
Acepcion opened up with Infernity Barrier, Dimensional Prison, Bottomless Trap Hole, Reinforce Truth, Reinforcement of the Army, and Infernity Archfiend. He Set all of his Spell and Trap Cards, Summoned Archfiend, and ended his turn. In his End Phase, Nguyen flipped Xing Zhen Hu, pinning down Reinforcement of the Army and Reinforce Truth.
Nguyen Special Summoned Grandmaster of the Six Samurai next turn, and when Acepcion flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to remove it from the Duel and destroy it, Nguyen returned Kagemusha from his Graveyard to his hand with Grandmaster’s effect. Nguyen Normal Summoned Kageki and used its effect next, but Kageki was destroyed by Infernity Barrier and its effect was negated. Nguyen attacked Archfiend with Shi En next, destroying it in battle.
Acepcion drew and Set Dimensional Prison next turn.
Nguyen activated Shien’s Smoke Signal to search his Deck for Kageki and add it to his hand. Then he Summoned Kageki and activated its effect to Special Summon Kagemusha, and Tuned Kageki with Kagemusha to Synchro Summon a second Shien. Both Shi Ens attacked, dropping Acepcion down to 2300 Life Points.
Acepcion drew Infernity Randomizer next turn! He Summoned it and activated its effect, revealing Pot of Duality from the top of his Deck. He added it to his hand and lost 500 Life Points. He activated the Duality, revealing Mirror Force and 2 copies of Offerings to the Doom from the top of his Deck, and added the Mirror Force to his hand. He Set Mirror Force and ended his turn. In Acepcion’s End Phase, Nguyen flipped Book of Moon to put the Randomizer face-down so that Acepcion wouldn’t be able to use Infernity Barrier.
Nguyen Special Summoned Kizan next turn. He attacked the face-down Randomizer with Kizan, and when Acepcion flipped Mirror Force, Nguyen negated the Mirror Force with his first Shi En. Randomizer was destroyed in battle. Shi En attacked next. Acepcion flipped Dimensional Prison, and when Nguyen negated it with his second Shi En, Acepcion flipped a second Dimensional Prison to remove the attacking Shi En from the Duel. But it wouldn’t be enough! Nguyen attacked with his second Shi En, and the attack wiped out the rest of Acepcion’s Life Points!
Ed Acepcion fails to recover from a first turn Shi En, allowing Johnny Nguyen to seal the first Duel! Acepcion will be going first in Duel 2!
Acepcion opened up with Infernity Launcher, Offerings to the Doom, Solemn Judgment, Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo, Infernity Randomizer, and Thunder King Rai-Oh. He Summoned Rai-Oh, Set all of his Spell and Trap Cards, and ended his turn.
Nguyen Set 2 cards to his back row and passed.
Acepcion drew Dimensional Prison and Set it. He attacked with Thunder King Rai-Oh, and Nguyen dropped down to 6100 Life Points. Acepcion Set Infernity Randomizer in Main Phase 2 and ended his turn.
Nguyen flipped his face-down Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Acepcion’s Solemn Judgment next turn. Then he Normal Summoned Kageki and activated its effect to Special Summon Hand of the Six Samurai. He activated Hand’s effect to Tribute Kageki and destroy Thunder King, then passed his turn.
Acepcion drew Smashing Ground next turn. He Normal Summoned Fossil Dyna, activated Smashing Ground to destroy Hand of the Six Samurai, and then Flip Summoned Infernity Randomizer. He activated his Randomizer’s effect to add Double Cyclone to his hand and Set it at the cost of 500 Life Points. He ended his turn without attacking.
Nguyen activated Shien’s Smoke Signal next turn to search his Deck for Kagemusha of the Six Samurai and add it to his hand. He Set a monster and 3 cards to his back row, ending his turn.
Acepcion drew Fossil Dyna and Set it. Then he switched his Infernity Randomizer to Defense Position and activated its effect to draw Mystical Space Typhoon and give up 500 Life Points. He activated Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Nguyen’s face-down Double-Edged Sword Technique, and then activated Double Cyclone to destroy his own face-up Mystical Space Typhoon and Nguyen’s face-down Monster Reborn. Acepcion attacked with Fossil Dyna next, ramming it into Nguyen’s face-down Kagemusha and losing 600 Life Points.
Nguyen activated Upstart Goblin next turn. Acepcion gained 1000 Life Points and Nguyen drew a card. Next, Nguyen switched his Kagemusha into Attack Position to attack Infernity Randomizer. But Acepcion flipped Dimensional Prison to protect the Randomizer and remove Kagemusha from the Duel! Nguyen Set another Kagemusha before ending his turn.
Acepcion drew Infernity Archfiend in his next Draw Phase, but couldn’t Special Summon it since he had Fossil Dyna on the field. He Set it instead, and then activated the effect of his Randomizer to give up 500 Life Points and draw Pot of Duality. He activated the Duality to reveal Compulsory Evacuation Device, Dark Hole, and Infernity Avenger from the top of his Deck, then added the Compulsory Evacuation Device to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. He attacked the face-down Kagemusha with Fossil Dyna and lost another 600 Life Points.
Nguyen Normal Summoned Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan next turn. When he entered his Battle Phase, Acepcion flipped Compulsory Evacuation Device to try to return Kizan to Nguyen’s hand. But Nguyen changed the target to Kagemusha with Kagemusha’s effect! When Kizan finally attacked, Acepcion used Offerings to the Doomed to destroy it!
Acepcion skipped his Draw Phase and then used his Randomizer to draw Mirror Force and give up 500 Life Points. He switched all of his monsters into Attack Position after Setting Mirror Force, and then attacked directly with 2 Fossil Dynas, Randomizer, and Archfiend, dropping Nguyen down to 1000 Life Points.
Nguyen Set Kagemusha and passed.
Acepcion drew Smashing Ground and Set it. He activated Randomizer to draw Infernity Barrier and Set that too, then attacked into Nguyen’s face-down Kagemusha with his Archfiend to flip it face-up. He activated Smashing Ground next, destroying the Kagemusha.
Nguyen activated Shien’s Smoke Signal to search for Kagemusha next turn and Set it.
Acepcion drew Offerings to the Doom next turn! He attacked Kagemusha with Infernity Archfiend, flipping it face-up, then activated Offerings to the Doom to destroy the Kagemusha while still in his Battle Phase. With only 1000 Life Points remaining, Nguyen was unable to survive a follow-up attack from Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo!
Ed Acepcion uses his Infernity Randomizer to dominate Johnny Nguyen throughout the entire Duel! Nguyen will be going first in Duel 3!
Nguyen started off the Duel by activating Upstart Goblin. Nguyen drew a card and Acepcion gained 1000 Life Points. He Set 3 cards to his back row and ended his turn.
Acepcion opened up with Monster Reborn, Pot of Duality, Infernity Launcher, Infernity Barrier, and 2 copies of Solemn Warning. He activated Pot of Duality to reveal Infernity Randomizer, Infernity Barrier, and Offerings to the Doom from the top of his Deck, then added the Randomizer to his hand. He shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck, and Nguyen flipped Mind Crush to force Acepcion to discard the Randomizer.
Nguyen activated Shien’s Smoke Signal to add Kagemusha to his hand and then activated Six Samurai United. He tried to Normal Summon Kagemusha, but Acepcion stopped it with Solemn Warning. Next, Nguyen activated Monster Reborn to revive the Kagemusha. Acepcion tried to negate the Monster Reborn with Solemn Warning, but Nguyen flipped Solemn Judgment and gave up 4000 Life Points to negate the Solemn Warning! Kagemusha hit the field in Defense Position and Six Samurai United gained a Bushido Counter. Next, Nguyen Special Summoned Grandmaster of the Six Samurai and added a second Bushido Counter to his Six Samurai United. He sent the Six Samurai United to the Graveyard to draw 2 cards, then activated Upstart Goblin to draw a card and give Acepcion 1000 Life Points. He attacked with Grandmaster to drop Acepcion down to 3900 Life Points before ending his turn.
Acepcion drew Dark Hole next turn. He Set it and then activated Monster Reborn, targeting Infernity Randomizer; but Nguyen flipped Solemn Warning to negate Monster Reborn! Acepcion flipped Dark Hole next, destroying Grandmaster and Kagemusha. Nguyen added Kagemusha to his hand with Grandmaster’s effect. Acepcion flipped Infernity Launcher next, and used it to Special Summon Infernity Randomizer from his Graveyard in Attack Position. He activated the effect to draw Offerings to the Doom and Set it, giving up 500 Life Points. Next, he attacked with Randomizer to drop Nguyen down to 1100 Life Points.
Nguyen activated Six Samurai United next turn. He Normal Summoned Kagemusha, to put a Bushido Counter on Six Samurai United, and Acepcion flipped Offerings to the Doom to destroy Kagemusha! Nguyen sent Six Samurai United to the Graveyard to draw a card, then Set it in his back row.
Acepcion skipped his Draw Phase due to the effect of Offerings to the Doom, and then activated the effect of his Randomizer. He revealed Infernity Avenger! Since it’s a Level 1 monster, Nguyen lost 200 Life Points and dropped down to 900! Infernity Randomizer’s 900 ATK wiped out Nguyen’s remaining Life Points, and Nguyen revealed his face-down Solemn Warning, conceding the Duel!
Ed Acepcion wins the Match thanks to Infernity Randomizer, and advances in the tournament with an 8-2 record!
