Round 3 Feature Match: Fusionist Hazel Morales Andrade vs. Infernity Acepcion

April 9th, 2011

We just showed you Ed Acepcion’s Infernity Radomizer Deck, and now we were going to put it to the test in a Feature Match! Acepcion’s strategy is all about drawing card after card with Infernity Randomizer, overwhelming the opponent. His opponent is Las Vegas’ Hazel Morales Andrade, piloting a Miracle Fusion / Gemini Deck.

Andrade opened the Duel with Pot of Duality, revealing Skill Drain, E – Emergency Call, and Gemini Spark from the top of his Deck. He took Skill Drain. He Summoned Elemental Hero Neos Alius and Set 3 cards to his back row.

Acepcion had a hand of Solemn Warning; Reinforce Truth; Infernity Randomizer; Dark Hole; Mystical Space Typhoon; and Pot of Duality. Duality got him Infernity Barrier, and he activated Dark Hole to destroy Neos Alius. He Summoned Randomizer and attacked for 900 Battle Damage, then Set his remaining 4 cards to his back row. He activated Randomizer’s effect, and Andrade Chained Skill Drain to negate it.

Another Pot of Duality got Andrade a choice of Bottomless Trap Hole, Solemn Warning, and Dark Hole; he took Warning. He tried to Normal Summon Elemental Hero Ocean, but Acepcion negated the Summon with Solemn Warning. Andrade activated Miracle Fusion, but Acepcion negated that with Infernity Barrier! In the End phase, Acepcion activated Reinforce Truth, then Chained Mystical Space Typhoon to destroy Skill Drain. Result: he Special Summoned another Randomizer!

Acepcion drew Trap Dustshoot and Set it. He activated the effect of 1 Randomizer, and got Solemn Warning with its effect, losing 500 Life Points. He Set Warning, then got Bottomless Trap Hole with his next Randomizer. He Set Bottomless, and turned 1 Randomizer to Defense Position before attacking with the other. Andrade was down to 4100 Life Points.

Andrade Set a Spell or Trap.

Acepcion drew Dimensional Prison and Set it. He activated the effect of his Defense Position Randomizer, and revealed Infernity Archfiend to deal 800 damage! Both Randomizers attacked, and Accepcion Set Archfiend.

Andrade Set another Spell or Trap.

Acepcion drew another Reinforce Truth, and Set it. He attacked with 1 Randomizer, and his second Randomizer was deflected by Book of Moon.

Andrade had just 800 Life Points left! Mystical Space Typhoon let him destroy Acepcion’s Solemn Warning, but when he tried to Summon Thunder King Rai-Oh he lost it to Acepcion’s Bottomless Trap Hole! Acepcion attacked with Randomizer again next turn to take the Duel.

A first turn Skill Drain proves to be nothing more than a small bump in the road, as Ed Acepcion gets 2 Infernity Randomizers up and running early to quickly take the first Duel!

Andrade used Reinforcement of the Army, getting Elemental Hero Stratos and Summoning it to search his Deck for Elemental Hero Neos Alius. He Set 2 cards to his back row.

Acepcion had Kinetic Soldier; Infernity Randomizer; Infernity Avenger; Compulsory Evacuation Device; Smashing Ground; and Bottomless Trap Hole. He Summoned Archfiend and traded it off against Stratos in Battle, Setting Bottomless.

Andrade Summoned Thunder King Rai-Oh, and when Acepcion tried to remove it with Bottomless Trap Hole, he negated Bottomless with Dark Bribe. Acepcion drew Infernity Barrier as a result. Andrade Set another Spell or Trap.

Acepcion drew another Smashing Ground, and activated it to destroy Thunder King. He Set Kinetic Soldier and Compulsory.

Andrade Special Summoned Cyber Dragon and attacked, leading Acepcion to return it to his opponent’s hand with Compulsory Evacuation Device. Andrade Special Summoned it again in Main Phase 2.

Acepcion destroyed Cyber Dragon with Smashing Ground, then Summoned Infernity Avenger. Andrade removed it with Chain Disappearance. Acepcion Set his remaining cards to his back row.

Andrade Summoned Elemental Hero Neos Alius next turn and didn’t attack.

Acepcion drew and Set a Spell or Trap.

Andrade searched his Deck for Elemental Hero Ocean with E – Emergency Call next turn, then attacked into Kinetic Soldier with Neos Alius, taking 1900 Battle Damage.

Acepcion drew Infernity Randomizer! He Normal Summoned it, and when Andrade flipped Chain Disappearance, Acepcion negated it with Infernity Barrier! Randomizer got him Thunder King Rai-Oh, and he lost it to Mind Crush. Kinetic Soldier attacked Neos Alius; Andraded flipped Skill Drain; and Acepcion had another Infernity Barrier to negate it. But Andrade had Honest! Kinetic Soldier was destroyed as it crashed into Neos Alius’ boosted ATK.

Andrade attacked with Neos Alius next turn, but lost it to Dimensional Prison! However, Acepcion had nothing but Randomizer left! Andraded Summoned Ocean and Set his last card to his back row.

Acepcion drew and Summoned Snipe Hunter, then got Book of Moon with his Randomizer. Snipe Hunter attacked Ocean; Andrade blocked it with Book of Moon; and Acepcion Set his own Book.

Andraded brought back Stratos with Ocean next turn, targeting Book of Moon to try and destroy it. But Acepcion Chained it to turn Stratos face-down. Monster Reborn let Andrade Special Summon Kinetic Soldier, and it ran over Randomizer. Ocean attacked to destroy Snipe Hunter, and Acepcion conceded the Duel when he saw his next draw: Solemn Warning.

Hazel Morales-Andrade overcomes double Infernity Barrier to regain control of the Duel, and leaves his opponent with no way to fight back! This one was going to 1 more Duel!

Acepcion offered his opponent a handshake and a wish of good luck, before drawing his hand: Breaker the Magical Warrior; Reinforce Truth; Dark Hole; Infernity Randomizer; Double Cyclone; and Offerings to the Doomed. He Summoned Breaker, then Set everything but Dark Hole and Randomizer.

Andrade Summoned Crusader of Endymion and attacked to trade off against Breaker in battle. Both monsters were destroyed. Andrade Set 1 card to his back row, and in the End Phase Acepcion flipped Double Cyclone to target Andrade’s Set card and his own Reinforce Truth! He Chained Truth to Special Summon Randomizer, then destroyed Truth and Andrade’s Set Royal Oppression!

Acepcion drew Bottomless Trap Hole, Set Dark Hole, and Summoned Randomizer to get Infernity Barrier! He activated the effect of his second Randomizer, drawing and Setting Dimensional Prison. Both Randomizers attacked for a total of 1800 Battle Damage.

Andrade activated Reinforcement of the Army to search out Elemental Hero Neos Alius from his Deck, then activated Pot of Duality to reveal Hero Blast, Dimensional Prison, and Dark Bribe from the top of his Deck. He added Hero Blast to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back. He Summoned Neos Alius. Acepcion responded with Bottomless Trap Hole, and Andrade Chained Gemini Spark. But then Acepcion Chained Barrier to negate Spark! Andraded Set 3 cards to his back row.

Acepcion drew and Summoned Infernity Necromancer. Andrade responded with Torrential Tribute, and Acepcion lost his whole field!

Andrade flipped Miracle Fusion, removing Neos Alius and Crusader from his Graveyard to Fusion Summon Elemental Hero The Shining! It attacked into Dimensional Prison, and Andrade Set another card to his back row.

Acepcion Set a Spell or Trap.

Andrade drew Elemental Hero Neos Alius and attacked for 1900 Battle damage.

Acepcion destroyed Neos Alius with Dark Hole, and Set a monster.

Acepcion drew Solemn Judgment and Set it.

Andrade drew for his turn, and Acepcion destroyed Ocean with Offerings to the Doomed in Andrade’s Draw Phase. Andrade flipped Hero Blast to target Kinetic Soldier, but Acepcion Chained Solemn Judgment, only to have Andrade use own Judgment to force Hero Blast through! He got back his Neos Alius, then Summoned it to attack and destroy Infernity Avenger. Andrade Set a Spell or Trap.

Acepcion passed.

Andrade attacked again, and Acepcion conceded the Match a turn later! Hazel Morales-Andrade moves on undefeated!

Here’s what our expert(s) had to say:

Erik Mishtar (Modern day pharaoh)

Both Duelists made a critical rules error in Duel 2 that likely would have changed the outcome to a 2-0 victory by Acepcion had it not occurred. There is no way to use Honest to make Elemental Hero Neos Alius beat Kinetic Soldier like Hazel did here. Kinetic Soldier’s effect starts a Chain at the last possible moment to use Honest and will always be the first effect on the Chain because it’s a mandatory effect. Even if you Chain with Honest’s effect, Neos Alius will only go up to 3250 ATK, 100 short of where it would need to be to take Kinetic Soldier down with it.
