Round 3 Feature Match: Heroic Michael Bowden vs. Botanist Reymond Rodriguez
Michael Bowden is running a Hero Deck that he has been perfecting for 3 years. It’s focused on Summoning Destiny End Dragoon, but also uses Miracle Fusion and Polyermization to Summon a bunch of other Fusion Monsters. His opponent, Reymond Rodriguez, is using a Chaos Plant Synchro Deck. The power of Rodriguez’s Sorcerers to remove Bowden’s Destiny End Dragoons from the Duel may make this a tough Match for Bowden, but since Bowden’s Deck is capable of Summoning many other monsters that he can count on to win, he still has a strong shot at victory!
Rodriguez started off the Match by activating Charge of the Light Brigade, sending Debris Dragon, Foolish Burial, and Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to add a Ryko from his Deck to his hand. He Set a monster along with 2 back rows before ending his turn.
Bowden opened up with Destiny Hero – Diamond Dude, Royal Decree, Destiny Hero – Dogma, Miracle Fusion, King of the Swamp, and Dark Armed Dragon. He pitched King of the Swamp from his hand to search his Deck for Polymerization and add it to his hand. Then he Normal Summoned Destiny Hero – Diamond Dude and activated its effect, revealing another Diamond Dude from the top of his Deck and sending it to the bottom of his Deck with Diamond Dude’s effect. Next, he attacked with Diamond Dude to destroy Rodriguez’s face-down Dandylion, and Rodriguez Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens.
Rodriguez Normal Summoned Mystic Tomato next turn and used it to attack and destroy Diamond Dude. Tomato was destroyed too, and Rodriguez Special Summoned Spirit Reaper from his Deck to attack Bowden directly with. Bowden lost Polymerization from his hand due to Spirit Reaper’s effect. Rodriguez Set a card to his back row and passed.
Bowden drew E – Emergency Call next turn and used it to search his Deck for Stratos and add it to his hand. Then, he Summoned Stratos and activated its effect to add Destiny Hero – Plasma from his Deck to his hand. Next, he activated Miracle Fusion to fuse the Diamond Dude and King of the Swamp in his Graveyard together by removing them from the Duel. He Summoned Elemental Hero Absolute Zero, and when Rodriguez flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to remove Absolute Zero from the Duel, Rodriguez lost all of his monsters! Stratos attacked directly and Rodriguez dropped down to 6200 Life Points.
Rodriguez Set a card to each zone and passed.
Bowden drew Deck Devastation Virus next turn and then attacked Rodriguez’s face-down Ryko with Stratos. Rodriguez sent 3 cards from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard and destroyed Stratos with Ryko’s effect. Bowden Set Deck Devastation Virus and passed.
Rodriguez Summoned Card Trooper next turn. He activated its effect by sending Sangan, Plaguespreader Zombie, and Glow-Up Bulb from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to boost it to 1900 ATK. Rodriguez attacked directly with Card Trooper before ending his turn.
Bowden drew Scapegoat and Set it.
Rodriguez sent 2 copies of Mystical Space Typhoon and a Pot of Avarice from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard next turn to boost Card Trooper to 1900 ATK and attack Bowden directly. Bowden dropped down to 3900 Life Points.
Bowden drew Destiny Hero – Plasma next turn. He Tributed 3 Sheep Tokens to Special Summon it and activated its effect to absorb Rodriguez’s Card Trooper. Next, he attacked with Plasma, and when Bowden flipped Mirror Force to destroy it, Bowden flipped Deck Devastation Virus! Bowden Tributed Plasma and forced Rodriguez to reveal Spore and Chaos Sorcerer from his hand. Spore was sent to the Graveyard and Rodriguez kept the Sorcerer.
Rodriguez drew a second Chaos Sorcerer next turn! He removed a Ryko and Sangan from his Graveyard to Special Summon Chaos Sorcerer, then used its effect to remove Bowden’s last Sheep Token from the Duel. Next, he added Chaos Sorcerer from his hand to the top of his Deck in order to Special Summon Plaguespreader Zombie from his Graveyard, and Tuned it with Chaos Sorcerer to Synchro Summon Colossal Fighter. Colossal Fighter attacked directly and Bowden dropped down to 900 Life Points.
Bowden drew Elemental Hero Prisma and Set it.
On his next turn, Rodriguez ended the Duel by Special Summoning Chaos Sorcerer and attacking with his 2 monsters. Chaos Sorcerer destroyed Bowden’s Prisma and then Colossal Fighter attacked directly, ending the Duel!

Bowden opened up Duel 2 with Kings of the Swamp, Elemental Hero Prisma, Elemental Hero Ocean, Destiny Hero – Plasma, Destiny Hero – Dogma, and Giant Trunade. He discarded King of the Swamp from his hand to search his Deck for Polymerization and add it to his hand. Then he Set Elemental Hero Ocean and ended his turn.
Rodriguez Summoned Card Trooper and activated its effect by sending Ryko, Charge of the Light Brigade, and Spirit Reaper from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard. Card Trooper attacked and destroyed Bowden’s face-down Elemental Hero Ocean, and Rodriguez ended his turn by Setting 3 cards to his back row.
Bowden drew Effect Veiler next turn. He activated Giant Trunade to send all 3 of Rodriguez’s back rows to his hand, then activated Polymerization to fuse his in-hand Plasma with his in-hand Dogma and Fusion Summon Destiny End Dragoon! Prisma attacked and destroyed Card Trooper, allowing Rodriguez to draw a card, and then Dragoon attacked directly, dropping Rodriguez down to 3700 Life Points.

Bowden activated Pot of Duality next turn. He revealed Destiny Hero – Dogma and 2 copies of E – Emergency Call from the top of his Deck. He added the Emergency Call to his hand and shuffled the other 2 cards back into his Deck. Next, he activated the Emergency Call to search his Deck for Elemental Hero Stratos. He switched his Dragoon to Defense Position and activated its effect to destroy Rodriguez’s face-down Legendary Jujitsu Master before ending his turn.
Rodriguez Set a monster and passed.
Bowden drew King of the Swamp and then Normal Summoned Elemental Hero Stratos. He activated its effect to search his Deck for a monster, and Rodriguez flipped Bottomless Trap Hole to remove Stratos from the Duel. Bowden grabbed a Plasma from his Deck and then pitched King of the Swamp to grab Polymerization from his Deck. Next, he activated Prisma’s effect and revealed Destiny End Dragoon from his Extra Deck to send Destiny Hero – Dogma from his Deck to his Graveyard and change Prisma’s name. Finally, he activated Polymerization to fuse Prisma (now named Destiny Hero – Dogma) with his in-hand Plasma and Summon another Dragoon! Bowden used its effect to destroy Rodriguez’s face-down Dandylion, and Rodriguez Special Summoned 2 Fluff Tokens. Next, Bowden flipped his other Dragoon and used its effect to destroy a Fluff Token, and Rodriguez removed the Dragoon from the Duel with Bottomless Trap Hole.
Rodriguez Normal Summoned Spore next turn and Tuned it with his Fluff Token to Synchro Summon Formula Synchron and draw a card.
Bowden drew Miracle Fusion next turn, and when he activated it, Rodriguez flipped Solemn Judgment and paid 1850 Life Points to negate it. Bowden destroyed Formula Synchron with his Dragoon’s effect, and Rodriguez lost another 200 Life Points.
Rodriguez Summoned Lonefire Blossom next turn and Tributed it to Special Summon another from his Deck. Then he removed a Lonefire Blossom from his Graveyard to Special Summon Spore and Synchro Summon Black Rose Dragon by Tuning Lonefire Blossom with Spore! He removed Lonefire Blossom from his Graveyard to activate the effect of Black Rose Dragon and try to switch Bowden’s Dragoon to Attack Position, but Bowden pitched Effect Veiler from his hand to negate the effect! Rodriguez Set a card to his back row before passing.
On his next turn, Bowden activated his Dragoon’s effect to destroy Black Rose Dragon and wipe out the rest of Rodriguez’s Life Points!
Michael Bowden wins Duel 2 after Summoning 2 copies of Destiny End Dragoon, pushing the Match to a third Duel!
Rodriguez started off Duel 3 by Setting a monster and activating Charge of the Light Brigade. He sent Card Trooper, Mirror Force, and Legendary Jujitsu Master from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to pay the cost of Charge, and added Ryko from his Deck to his hand with its effect. Then he Set a card to his back row and ended his turn.
Bowden opened up with Power Filter, Royal Decree, Future Fusion, Destiny Hero – Plasma, Elemental Hero Stratos, and Monster Reborn. He Summoned Elemental Hero Stratos and activated its effect to add Elemental Hero Prisma from his Deck to his hand. Then he attacked Rodriguez’s face-down Spirit Reaper with Stratos, leaving both monsters unharmed. Bowden activated Future Fusion in Main Phase 2, sending Elemental Hero Ocean and Destiny Hero – Dogma from his Deck to his Graveyard so that he could Summon Elemental Hero Absolute Zero 2 turns later. Finally, he Set Royal Decree and Power Filter, ending his turn.
Rodriguez Set a card to each zone, and in his End Phase, Bowden flipped Royal Decree.
Bowden drew Elemental Hero Prisma next turn. He Normal Summoned it and then activated Monster Reborn to Special Summon Card Trooper from Rodriguez’s Graveyard. He used its effect to send Miracle Fusion, Deck Devastation Virus, and E – Emergency Call from the top of his Deck to his Graveyard to boost it to 1900 ATK. Next, he Tributed Prisma, Stratos, and Card Trooper to Special Summon Destiny Hero – Plasma from his hand, and used its effect to absorb Rodriguez’s Spirit Reaper. He used Plasma to attack Rodriguez’s face-down Ryko next, and Ryko’s effect was negated by Plasma. In Main Phase 2, Bowden flipped his face-down Power Filter before ending his turn.

Bowden Special Summoned Elemental Hero Absolute Zero due to the effect of Future Fusion next turn, and then activated Miracle Fusion to Summon Elemental Hero The Shining by removing Prisma and Stratos from his Graveyard. Next, Prisma attacked Rodriguez face-down Debris Dragon and Bowden lost 300 Life Points. Plasma, The Shining, and Absolute Zero attacked next. Plasma took down Debris Dragon, Absolute Zero struck directly, and The Shining’s attack was stopped by Book of Moon. Rodriguez dropped down to 5500 Life Points.
Rodriguez Set a Sangan and passed, but it was all over on the next turn! Bowden activated Polymerization to fuse his on-field Prisma with Elemental Hero Absolute Zero and Summon another copy of The Shining! Absolute Zero’s effect activated, and Bowden’s Sangan was destroyed! Direct attacks from two 3200 ATK Shinings and a 2050 ATK Plasma finished Rodriguez off!
Some strong plays upheld by Royal Decree allow Michael Bowden to dominate the third Duel and advance to round 4 with a 3-0 record using Destiny End Dragoon!
